A Labor Day Double for NCRA Late Models
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – August 30, 2010 - Just three events remain for the O’Reilly/NCRA late model division on the 2010 schedule with two of those events taking place this coming Labor Day weekend as the tour makes their third appearance of the season at I-80 Speedway at Nebraska Raceway Park in Greenwood, Nebraska this Friday night. From there it is on to the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas for a Sunday night event that will also see two other series divisions competing as well.
Current series point’s leader Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado leads the cars and stars of the O’Reilly/NCRA late model division in a double sanctioned event with the Missouri based Lucas Oil MLRA at the I-80 speed plant. Boen has recorded eleven feature victories thus far on the 2010 race season and looks to become the first ever driver in any division, current or past, to achieve twelve victories in one season. Boen is currently tied with former series outlaw sprint car champion Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas with eleven victories. Boen achieved this feat last year as well.
While it appears that Boen has all but locked up his fifth career late model championship, the battle for the runner up position in the season long point standings is far from complete.
On the strength of fourteen top ten finishes in the nineteen events that have been held, Corey Zeitner of Bellevue, Nebraska currently holds down the runner up position by 175 points over series rookie of the year Jase Kaser of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Positions fourth through sixth are all separated by 200 point increments. Former two-time series champion Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kansas currently holds down the fourth in the point standings while Jason O’Brien of Atlantic, Iowa is fifth, 200 points ahead of Soloman, Kansas driver Wylan Petrie.
Rounding out the top ten are two-time and defending series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska, Shawn Harker of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Dean Moore of Grand Junction, Colorado and Jerry Warner of Lavesta, Nebraska.
Boen has amassed five victories at I-80 Speedway since 2005 while the Belleville High Banks has seen the late model veteran take home eleven feature victories, including the previous event back on June 6th.
Other drivers who have picked up at least one NCRA feature victory at I-80 Speedway since 2003 include Terry Phillips (2), Denny Eckrich, Berck (4), Purkey, John Hampell (2), Steve Kosiski and Darren Miller.
Former Belleville NCRA late model victors are Berck (2), Anderson (3), Steve Kosiski (3), Purkey (3), Phillips (2), Tony Gregg (3), Delbert Smith and Gary Gorby (2).
As mentioned, it all kicks off this Friday night with the NCRA/MLRA event at I-80 paying a crisp $3000 to the nights feature winner. Pit gates open at 3:00 PM while grandstand gates open at 5:30 PM. Racing will begin at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20 for adults, $8 for juniors and kids five and under admitted FREE! Powers Leads NCRA Modified North into Belleville
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – August 30, 2010 - The battle for the top spot atop the O’Reilly/NCRA modified north point standings will continue atop the battle of the High Banks this coming Sunday night as the series makes their first and only appearance of the season at the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas this Labor Day weekend. It won’t be the only series show in town that night as the series late model and sprint car divisions will tackle the famed half mile oval as well.
Looking to pick up his first ever series championship, Brian Powers of Wichita, Kansas comes will go into the night as point’s leader with a 45 point advantage over Brent Burkhart. With two events left on the 2010 season schedule, former 2008 series champion Marc Hurd is not out of the title chase as well as he is only 50 points out of the top spot. Series rookie leader Tyler Davis currently sits fourth in the point standings while Ryan McAninch is fifth in the point standings. Hurd also leads the way with a division leading three feature victories out of the four races that have been completed.
Along with those mentioned above, drivers expected to compete include regulars Jason Schniepp, Dan Daniels, Jim Johnson, Casey McClaskey, rookie contender Dan Powers, Ross Shipman, Brad Johnston, Marlin Farr, Jim Pearcy and rookie contenders Shane Langhover, Jr. and Josh Loffland.
Since September of 2006, it has been the John Allen, Hurd show on the High Banks. With one show each year during the Independence and Labor Day weekends since that period, Allen leads the way with four feature victories while Hurd has mastered the feat twice, including this same event held last season. However, Allen is not expected to compete this weekend so the question is, will Hurd tame the half mile again this year or will somebody new since July of 2006 reach victory lane.
Gates on Sunday night will open at 5:00 PM with racing set for 7:30 PM. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for ages 10-14 years of age. The track is located 2.0 miles north of US 36 on US 81, then 0.4 mile southeast on M St. to 7th St., then 0.1 mile east (near the water tower, at the North Central Kansas Fairgrounds).
The O’Reilly/NCRA sprint car and late model divisions will also be in action as well.
