Davis Wins Thrilling, Event Filled NCRA Modified Feature!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – May 25, 2013 - Former tour champion Tyler Davis retook the lead coming out of turn four on the last lap to claim his first victory of the season in thrilling style as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division made an appearance at 81 Speedway in Park City on Saturday night.
Davis and A.J. Brochu started on the front row for the thirty lap feature and it was Davis who quickly jumped out into the lead as the green flag fell. Fourth starting Josh Lanterman, Don Hodge and Dan Powers gave chase as the leader quickly opened up a six car length lead.

His lead would grow to a half straightaway before the first caution of the feature fell on lap six when Justin Moler spun at the bottom of turn three. Just as this was taking place, third running Lanterman lost a drive shaft heading down the back stretch and would see his night come to an abrupt end.

The double file restart would see Brochu pressure Davis for the lead with the leader running down low and Brochu running the top of the three-eighths mile oval. Powers would make his presence felt as he caught Brochu and both drivers swapped the runner up position with Powers taking the spot on lap eleven.
The top three began to put distance between themselves and the rest of the field when the second caution fell on lap twelve when Bob Lane spun at the bottom of turn three.

Davis and Powers drove away from the rest of the field on the restart and put a half stretch distance between them and third running Don Hodge and Brochu.

Then on lap seventeen things got interesting up front as Davis (down low) and Powers (up top) battled side by side for the lead, Coming out of turn two Powers ran out of race track and climbed the back stretch wall and would come to a stop half way down the backstretch to bring out the caution.

The double file restart made things interesting and allowed Hodge to briefly take the lead entering turn’s one and two, only to have Davis reclaim the position heading down the back straightaway. Twelfth starting Jason McGehee and “B” feature winner Dustin Belcher made their way in to the top four before Belchers charge to the front slowed as he spun down low in turn two on lap nineteen.

Hodge started along the outside of the leader Davis on the restart and this time would stay out front as he got a good run coming out of turn two. Davis tried several attempts to retake the top spot but Hodge kept his momentum and speed up high and continued to stay out front. Hodge, looking to claim his first over series victory, looked to have things in hand with three laps to go as he built a half stretch lead over Davis, who now had his hands full with Brochu for the runner up position.  However the final caution flag would fall with just two laps to go when Lane spun coming out of turn four.

The single file restart saw Hodge keep his lead and allowed Davis to stay glued to his rear bumper. Heading down the backstretch on the last lap and the leader running up high, Davis got a run entering turns three and four and pulled a slide job, drifting up in front of Hodge to slow his pace and out ran him coming down for the checkered flag to take the one car victory.

Hodges best tour run ended with a second place finish while Belcher worked his way up from the rear of the field following his spin to finish third. McGehee settled for fourth while seventh starting Scott Miller rounded out the top five.

The four Heat races for the thirty-two car field were won by Lanterman, Davis, Brochu and Powers while Belcher claimed the caution filled “B” feature.

The next event for the NCRA modified division will take place on Father’s Day Sunday night, June 16th, at 81 Speedway as part of the tracks “Hoosier Daddy” Bill Hall Memorial.
