MSRA Announces Schedule Changes; Current Point Standings Posted
Beebe, AR (4/13/08) – The O'Reilly MSRA Super Late Model Series has made some schedule revisions in regards to their upcoming events. The next tour event was scheduled for April 18th at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas. However, due to several early season rain outs at the facility, the staff of both BMS and the O’Reilly MSRA thought that it would be best to move the event back a few weeks.
As a result, the next event on tap for the O’Reilly MSRA will be a 40 lap, $2,000 to win event on Friday, May 2nd at Batesville Motor Speedway. On Saturday, May 3rd the O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Models will travel to Poinsett County Raceway in Harrisburg, Arkansas for another 40 lap, $2,000 to win event.
With one event in the books for 2008, Ray Moore from Shreveport, Louisiana is the current point’s leader, and Clay Fisher from Dewitt, Arkansas leads the Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year standings. The 2008 Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year will also receive a complimentary attendance to the 2008 Dale McDowell Dirt Late Model Seminar, courtesy of Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil. Benji Cole Dominates Toccoa Speedway O'Reilly Southern All Stars Event
Toccoa, GA – Cannon, Georgia's Benji Cole made it very clear to the competition Saturday night at Toccoa Speedway - this is his territory. Cole, who started from the outside of the front row, launched his Dirty White Boy Chassied machine to the lead at the drop of the green flag and then proceeded to lead all fifty laps. Cole never faced a serious challenge in taking the victory that was worth $5000 at Georgia's oldest dirt racing facility.
Cool temperatures and a heavy Toccoa red clay surface led the twenty-six drivers who signed in for Sunoco Race Fuels Pole Qualifying to time within a half second of Toccoa's five year old track record. Brent Dixon bested all drivers in hand with a lap of 12.464 seconds around the 5/16ths D-shaped bullring. 2007 OSAS Champion Ivedent Lloyd timed in second quick but had his time disallowed when he was light at the scales. Cole timed in third quick overall but moved to the outside of row one with Lloyd's DQ.
Two eight lap last chance heat races set the remainder of the field. Last week's Toccoa weekly winner, Ethan Hunter, picked up the win in the first heat. Hunter was followed by Randy Nichols, Bruce Taylor, Dion Deason, Anthony Hill and Daryl Freeman. Jeff Weber took the checkers in the second heat ahead of Derek Ellis, Casey Barrow, Matt Dillard, Rickey Harvey and Monk Gulledge. Lloyd and David Smith were granted OSAS provisional starts to complete the twenty-four car field.
Cole lurched to the lead when the green fell on the evening's feature event. Dixon chased Cole with Stacy Holmes and Dillon Wood looming after. The remainder of the field battled door to door over the opening laps. Casey Roberts began making moves early on and had pulled to Wood's rear deck after only seven laps. A lap eleven spin and tangle forced Jason Fitzgerald, who had been running seventh, pitside with a flat tire. Fitzgerald returned his M&M Refrigeration Transport, Bobby Labonte Foundation MasterSbilt to twentieth for the restart.
With the green back out Cole once again distanced himself from the field. Roberts moved to the outside of Wood and Dixon to move into third. Jonathan Davenport and Doug English both stepped up to the high side of the speedway and began to move forward. But the man on the move was Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald worked the high side and broke into the top ten in just ten laps. A late caution realigned the field for a restart. Davenport used a banzai top side move to bypass three cars and move into second.
English followed suit and rolled by Wood and Roberts on the rim to move into the third position. Fitzgerald continued his run back through the field and battled with Roberts and Travis Pennington in a three way shootout for the fourth position. Fitzgerald was able to cover the position with Roberts and Pennington continuing to battle it out for fifth. Up front Cole worked lap traffic masterfully and held a very comfortable lead as the field took the white flag.
Cole cruised over the final lap taking nearly a full straightaway win. Davenport came home in second with English, Fitzgerald and Roberts rounding out the top five. Pennington, Wood, Gulledge, Deason and Dillard completed the top ten. Cole was jubilant in victory lane. "We have won a lot of big races here but this is probably the biggest. There are a lot of people who help us out that I need to thank but I just can't name them all right now. The DWB chassis was really good all night. The draw hurt us a little in qualifying. I believe if we had gone out a little earlier we could have set fast time."
Cole's Dirty White Boy Monte Carlo SS is powered by a Russell Baker Racing Engine and has sponsor support from Bates and Son Concrete Specialists, Ivester Pipeline, Keener Construction, Turner Recycling, Dan's Paint and Sandblasting, Harris and Company Construction, White's Total Performance, Hollywood Express Inc., Dirt Face Race Wear, DirtWrap, Simpson, SHY Suspension, Swift Springs, TrackTek Fuels and Schaeffer Racing Oil.
The O'Reilly Southern All Stars Racing Series will take next weekend off but will return to action on Saturday, April 26th at the Talladega Short Track for a $5000 to win event. For more information and a complete schedule visit www.southern-allstars.com .
