Billy Moyer Heads East Following $20,000 ‘Illini 100’ Triumph at Farmer City!
(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) Batesville, Arkansas native Billy Moyer is on the biggest roll of his illustrious Dirt Late Model career, as the Hall of Famer picked up his ninth victory of the young 2008 racing season over the weekend at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois! Billy set a new track record at the fairgrounds oval on Friday night, April 4, as he toured the bullring in a mere 11.973 seconds in qualifying. A heat race win later in the night assured "Mr. Smooth" of a top-six starting spot in the inaugural 'Illini 100' feature event on Saturday.
When the action resumed at Farmer City on Saturday, Billy drew a number three prior to the start of the $20,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series-sanctioned A-Main. After rolling off from the inside of the second row for the 100-lap affair, Billy raced all over the top five before making a bid for the win late in the race. He passed Chub Frank and Steve Francis to get to the second spot before tracking down leader Shannon Babb. Billy briefly took the lead on lap 85 before finally overtaking Babb for good on lap 99. He was able to hold off Babb, who started at the rear of the field, Steve Francis, Tim McCreadie, and Wes Steidinger to record the exciting $20,000 payday! “Everything is just going awesome right now and we are going to ride this streak as long as we can,” commented Moyer following his Farmer City victory. “That 18 car (Shannon Babb) is always strong at Farmer City, so when you can pass him for the win, you have really done something. I really can’t say enough about everyone from Victory Circle racecars, Clements Engines, and everybody associated with this race team. Hopefully, we can keep this thing going as we head east to Virginia, Lernerville, and Charlotte!”
The Billy Moyer Racing team is currently heading east to compete in a trio of World of Outlaws Late Model Series events over the next 10 days. Billy brings the WOOLMS point lead into the Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, Virginia this Friday night, April 11 for a $10,000 to win series event. The action will then turn to the venerable Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 15 for another $10,000 to win show. The east coast trip for the #21 team will culminate with the annual running of the ‘Colossal 100’ at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina on April 18-19. The festivities at the Charlotte-area oval will be highlighted by a 100-lap feature event on Saturday, April 19, which will pay $50,000 to the winner! Scott James Takes $10,000 Top Prize at Screven; Up to Sixth in Lucas Oil Series Points!
(BRIGHT, INDIANA) Bright, Indiana driver Scott James is up to sixth in the latest version of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings following a rollercoaster tripleheader weekend in the Peachtree State of Georgia. Scott's weekend was highlighted by a $10,000 triumph at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia on Friday night, April 4. He qualified well in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials and later won his heat race in preliminary action. In the 50-lap feature event, Scott ran up front early and then took the lead on lap twenty-one from leader Tim Dohm. The driver known as "The Silver Shark" held the point for the remainder of the race to pick up his first series victory of '08 over Jimmy Owens, Tim Dohm, Randy Weaver, and Donnie Moran.
The first event of the tripleheader weekend took place a night earlier on April 3 at the Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia. Scott was forced to take a series provisional to gain access into the $7,000 to win feature event, where he eventually wound up twenty-second in the final rundown. The trio of races were scheduled to wrap-up on Saturday, April 5 at the Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia, but Mother Nature pushed the $10,000 to win show back a day. When the action resumed at GIS on Sunday, Scott finished fourth in his heat race before running fifteenth in the 50-lap A-Main, which was taped by the cameras of the SPEED Channel. You can view complete results from the three-race swing online at www.lucasdirt.com!
“It was a rollercoaster weekend for us, but we got the monkey off our back with that win at Screven,” commented James earlier in the week. “Although we have had some bad luck here and there this season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series trail, we are still sixth in points and we have plenty of time to make that gap up to compete for the championship. We just need to string together some solid point nights and hopefully that will start this weekend at K-C.”
The Jam-Pow Motorsports team has one lone event on their upcoming weekend schedule, as the #83 team will trek to the K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio on Saturday night, April 12 for the ‘Glockner 50.’ The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the $10,000 to win event on Saturday and the cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape all of the dirt-slinging action for broadcast later in the year. You can learn more about this race online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Michael England Out of Action 10-14 Weeks After Breaking Wrist at Screven…
(GLASGOW, KENTUCKY) Dirt Late Model pilot Michael England endured a rough trip to the Peachtree State of Georgia last weekend. After failing to make the $7,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature event on Thursday, April 3 at the Swainsboro (GA) Raceway, things went from bad to worse for the Glasgow, Kentucky driver on Friday evening, April 4 at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia. Michael was involved in an incident during his heat race at Screven, which broke his wrist. Needless to say, he was done for the evening and did not compete in the rest of the $10,000 to win show.
On Tuesday, April 8, Michael underwent successful surgery to repair his broken wrist. A steel plate and screws were inserted to help his wrist heal properly and swiftly. However, the medical staff has advised Michael that he should stay out of Dirt Late Model competition for 10-14 weeks. He will likely make his return to action somewhere around the first of July if things go as planned.
“I just got my hand stuck in the steering wheel the other night at Screven and it broke my wrist,” commented England following surgery on Tuesday. “It got messed up pretty bad and the doctors had to use a steel plate and screws to hold everything in place. Hopefully, it will heal quickly and I can get back behind the wheel as soon as possible!”
