Billy Moyer Masters Roaring Knob for $20,000 NDRL Triumph!

Markleysburg, Pennsylvania (September 2, 2013) The National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) held their third event of their inaugural season on Monday evening with a trip to the picturesque Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, and it was Billy Moyer who scored the victory in the nail-biting, $20,000-to-win affair.

Steve Shaver and Dennis Erb Jr. brought the field to the green flag for the 75 lap finale, and Shaver gunned to the lead at the drop of the green flag with fellow front row starter, Dennis Erb Jr. in tow.  While the lead duo motored away from the pack Davey Johnson, Tim Scenic, and Gregg Satterlee rounded out the top five.

The running order at the front of the pack remained the same until lap 10, when Scenic slowed from the 4th position with mechanical issues to draw the caution.  The ensuing restart saw Shaver again pull away from the field, while Davey Johnson and Gregg Satterlee went to work in a three wide battle for the 2nd spot.  The battle would be halted two laps later on lap 12, when a brief heavy rain shower drenched the oval.

After a twenty minute delay action resumed with Shaver at the point, and over the next several laps the event saw several restarts for flat tires.  While Shaver remained constant out front the top five shuffled from lap to lap behind him as Satterlee, Johnson, Josh Richards, and Cody Hardesty waged war.

A lap 30 caution for a Jason Feger flat would set a trend of tire failures over the next several laps as Shaver led with Josh Richards jumped to 2nd with Davey Johnson, Gregg Satterlee, and Shane Clanton rounding out the top five.

While flat tires struck randomly through the field for the next several laps Shaver, Richards, and Johnson seemed unscathed until lap 58, when Richards slowed from the 3rd spot.  One lap later Satterlee surrendered a top five spot with a flat tire as well.

With Shaver at the point Clanton assumed the 2nd spot and would chase the leader until lap 68, when he slowed with a right-rear flat.  The yellow led to a seven lap dash to the checkers.   Shaver drove away from the field on the restart and appeared to be on his way to the victory, but on lap 71 he and 2nd place runner, Davey Johnson, simultaneously slowed with flat tires.

With the top two cars in the pits Jimmy Mars, who started 15th, assumed the lead, and as the green flag flew on lap 71 Mars jumped to a big lead.  However, he would not be immune to tire issues as he slowed on the backstretch on lap 74 to draw a final caution.

As Mars headed pit-side, 19th starting Jamie Lathroum inherited the lead with Billy Moyer and Josh Richards close behind.  The restart for the two lap shootout to the checkers found Moyer charging to the outside of Lathroum entering turn one, and by the time the duo exited turn two Moyer held the lead.  The Dirt Late Hall of Famer went on to lead the last lap and a half to score his first career win with the NDRL.

"I knew under that last caution that his tires looked worn, and he (Lathroum) was trying so hard to protect the bottom that I could probably roll him in the middle," Moyer said in victory lane.  "It was a rough start to the year for sure, but to come here tonight and win at a track I've never been to before is just awesome.  Hopefully we can go win another World 100 next weekend now!"

Vienna, West Virginia's Steve Shaver started the night by setting fast time in Keyser Manufacturing Qualifications with a 16.438 second lap around the 38/8 mile oval.  Heat race action for the 37 car field was topped by Steve Shaver, Tim Scenic, Cody Hardesty, and Davey Johnson.  The twin b-main were topped by Jeremy Miller and Bob Gordon.
