Billy Moyer Jr. Snares $5,000 Payday at Tucson

Batesville, Arkansas (1/13/14) - Billy Moyer Jr. had a great outing on Sunday night in his #21jr Crop Production Services/Moyer Xtreme by Longhorn/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model as he raced to the $5,000 win in the second round of the 2nd Annual Winter Extreme at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona).

Fifty-four Super Late Models entered the event, and Billy started his night by out-dueling his dad to win his heat race, which sent him to the redraw for the feature. In the redraw Moyer Jr. was the recipient of the pole starting spot for the 40 lap, $5,000-to-win feature. He was joined on the front row by Terry Phillips, and as the race went green Billy snagged the lead with Phillips in tow. He held the top spot until lap 4, when Phillips shot by for the lead exiting turn 2. Phillips held the lead until lap 11, when he slowed with issues which allowed Moyer Jr. to inherit the lead.

Once out front again Billy went on to lead the remainder of the event to score the victory over Tony Toste, Jimmy Mars, Clay Daly, and R.C. Whitwell.

“I’m really ecstatic. The car was really, really good,” said Moyer Jr., who finished 11th in the Winter Extreme opener on Saturday. “We missed a little bit last night, but we got it back tonight. We had a little luck on our side, but hey, that’s part of racing.”

Moyer Jr. concluded by noting, “I can’t thank the Rumleys, Bobby Labonte Racing, the entire Longhorn team, and all of my sponsors enough for their great support. Hopefully this is the first of many to come this year!”

Jr. Motorsports continues their invasion of the west on Wednesday night with another $3,000-to-win event at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) before entering a trio of events on Friday through Sunday. Friday through Sunday, January 24th-26th will find Billy competing in the inaugural Battle of the Border at El Paso Speedway Park (El Paso, Texas).
