Dale McDowell Goes Flag-To-Flag for Rome Cash

Welcome, North Carolina (07/25/16) – Dale McDowell continued his torrid streak in his new Sweet-Bloomquist #17m Team Dillon Racing/ Bad Boy Off Road/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model by wiring the field at Rome Speedway to score the $5,000 victory on Sunday evening.

Sunday evening found Team Dillon Racing traveling to Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) with both Dale McDowell looking to continue his winning ways. Starting the night with the fastest time in a field of 27 competitors, Dale earned the pole position for the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series A-Main. Leading all 53-laps, McDowell registered his third-straight win and fifth overall with Frank Ingram, Casey Roberts, Vic Hill, and Donald McIntosh rounding out the top five. Dale pocketed a $5,300 payday for his dominate 53-lap victory.

"I swear I think it's been working out better with me not fooling with the car," McDowell said in victory lane with a laugh. "But Shane (McDowell) and Ryan (Gifford) and Jesse (Kerns), they all work hard on the car ... put a lot of effort toward it. And Shane busted his tail. Really, the credit goes to those guys. It's making it a lot of fun for me."

He concluded by saying, “I also want to thank all of my sponsors including Bad Boy Off Road, Boydbilt, Klotz, Cometic, and UNOH.”

Todd Morrow Tops Rome for First Win of 2016

Chattanooga, Tennessee (07/25/15) – Sunday night found Todd Morrow enjoying the spoils of victory for the first time in 2016. He piloted the Allen’s Pools Motorsports #A11 Crate Late Model to the victory at Rome Speedway.

“This win has been a long-time coming,” said a relieved Morrow. “It’s no big secret that this year has been a tough one. Whether it be mechanical failures or random bad luck, victory lane has just eluded us.”

Morrow went on to say, “I want to thank everyone, who supports us. Joe and Carol Allen are giving me a great opportunity to drive their car. In fact, they are huge supporters of everything I do, and I want to welcome them to my operation. Also want to thank Phillip Baxter for his continued support. Last but not least, Ricky Wagner is another big addition to our team as our new crew chief. I definitely hope things are now on the upswing.”

Behind the wheel of the Allen’s Pool #A11 Crate Late Model, Todd Morrow visited Crossville Speedway (Crossville, Tennessee) on Saturday night to compete against a field of 16 entries. After posting the 7th-fastest time in qualifying, Morrow ran into trouble with his brakes in the feature. Starting on the fourth row, Todd had to retire early from the main event due to his brakes being locked-up.

After taking Saturday night off, Morrow returned to action in the Crate Late Model division at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) on Sunday evening. Posting the fastest time in a field of 16 competitors in qualifying, Morrow started on the pole for the feature. Jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag, Todd Morrow edged long-time friend Andy Picklesimer at the finish line by a mere 0.05 seconds to capture his first win of the season.

Full results from these events are available at www.CrossvilleSpeedway.com and www.DixieSpeedway.com .

Up next for Morrow is a trip to Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia) on Tuesday night, July 26, where he will return to the driver’s seat of his #T1 Platinum Chassis Super Late Model. The $3,500-to-win event will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series. For more information on the event, please visit www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com .

Chris Ferguson Takes a $5,300 Win with the Rebel Yell; FALS Next

Mt. Holly, North Carolina (7/25/16) – Chris Ferguson overcame adversity on Friday night to find his way into victory lane on Saturday night in his Champion Spark Plugs #22 Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model in the annual Rebel Yell at Screven Motor Speedway. The victory was worth $5,300.

Going into battle with the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Old Man’s Garage, Chris Ferguson visited Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Georgia) on Friday night. After posting the fastest time in a field of 31 cars, Ferguson started outside front row in the feature alongside Hunter Peacock for the feature. Suffering a flat left-front tire while leading the $5,300-to-win A-Main, Chris ultimately was credited with a 10th-place finish.

The following night brought 26 cars to Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Georgia) for the $5,300-to-win Rebel Yell, where Ferguson looked for redemption from the previous night’s bad luck. Leading the final 18 laps of the feature event, Ferguson stormed to his fifth win of the season over Brent Dixon, Dennis Franklin, Casey Roberts, and Donald Bradsher.

"It was a fun race. Any time you get to run door-to-door like we did and then split each other, somebody on the top, somebody on the middle and bottom, it was just awesome," Ferguson said. "In the mid-part of the race when we were in third and they were running around that bottom and I had harder tire on so I kinda couldn't get down there, I didn't know if I was going to win. It was just fun to race like that and come out and actually be the winner. It’s definitely redemption from last night, and that makes it even better."

Complete results from these events can be found at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com .

Chris Ferguson is now eagerly anticipating the upcoming weekend, July 29-30, as he will make his first-ever trip to Fairbury American Legion Speedway (Fairbury, Illinois) to compete in the 27th annual Prairie Dirt Classic at the historic bullring. Action opens on Friday night with prelims and the 2nd Annual FALS Draw. Saturday night includes consolation events as well as the $27,000-to-win finale. Rodney Sanders Continues I-80 USMTS Domination

Happy, Texas (07/25/16) – Rodney Sanders continued his domination of I-80 Speedway in his Wichita Tank Racing #20 MB Customs/Hatfield Racing Engine Modified over the weekend. The Texas racer won his seventh-straight feature at the oval to claim the $5,000 top prize on Saturday night.

Pulling double duty, Rodney Sanders headed to I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) on Friday night for opening round action of the 6th annual Silver Dollar Nationals. In a field of 44 United State Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors, Sanders charged through the field eight positions in his first heat race, landing a runner-up finish behind Austin Siebert. Starting in 2nd for his next heat race, Rodney cruised to a heat race victory. The cumulative performance of his two heat races made him the high point driver for preliminary action, which locked him into Saturday night’s pole dash.

On Friday evening he also competed in the Cubby’s Chase Race, which was an all-star invitational race for the USMTS competitors. He drew the 10th-starting spot for the special event. With $1,000 on the line, Sanders gained six spots in the 24-lapper, posting a 4th-place finish behind Jason Hughes, Johnny Scott, and Cade Dillard with Mason Big Eagle coming in 5th.

During the same night in two more rounds of heat races in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), Rodney logged a 7th-place finish in his first event. Placing 2nd in his next heat behind Billy Moyer, Sanders would have one more opportunity at the $40,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday with a B-Main appearance. Landing a runner-up finish behind Tyler Erb, Rodney secured his spot into the 80-lap finale.

Looking to capture his seventh straight Silver Dollar Nationals win in the USMTS on Saturday night, Rodney finished 2nd in the pole dash, which locked him into the outside-front-row starting spot for the 42-lap finale. Battling for a $5,000 payday in the Casey's General Stores A-Main, Rodney Sanders outdueled good friend Jason Krohn to pick up his ninth win of the season with Krohn, Cade Dillard, Jason Hughes, and Terry Phillips rounding out the Top 5.

“I really had a lot of fun racing with Jason (Krohn) there,” said Sanders in victory lane. “When he slipped past me there late in the race, I wasn’t totally sure if I could get back around him, but luckily I was able to make it happen. I just want to thank my awesome fans, crew, and sponsors for their support.”

Slated to start 21st for the LOLMDS Silver Dollar Nationals later that night, Sanders fell back to a 29th-place outing in the feature after bringing out a caution on lap 28.

For more results from these events, please visit www.USMTS.com and www.LucasDirt.com .

The upcoming weekend, July 29-30 will see Sanders entering a pair of Corn Belt Clash Super Late Model events in the state of Iowa. On Friday evening a $5,000-to-win affair will be held at Fayette County Speedway (West Union, Iowa), while Saturday night will see a $5,454-to-win affair contested at Lafayette County Speedway (Darlington, Wisconsin). "I always enjoy going to Ohsweken," he said. "Glenn Styres and everyone there does a great job with the track. It's always really wide and really racy. We've had a lot of success there in the past."

Sides captured three of the first five World of Outlaws races at the track from 2007-10.

"After Wilmot we're looking forward to going home for a week and spending time with family," he said. "Hopefully we'll have three good runs this week and can make the trip home with some momentum."

Sides is coming off a sour outing in Pennsylvania last week when he was unable to make any of the three World of Outlaws main events last Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver and Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway.

"We did some work on the car and I think we broke some things in (the engine) at Eldora or Lernerville," he said. "When we were at Williams Grove it was only running on five or six cylinders and we didn't catch it until afterward. We put another engine in and we're ready for Ohsweken."

Rilat Ready for Redemption at Skagit Speedway This Weekend During Summer Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - FORNEY, Texas (July 25, 2016) - Travis Rilat is returning to Skagit Speedway this weekend looking for redemption.

Rilat will drive for Richard Saumure on Friday and Saturday at the high-banked track during the Bob's Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals. Rilat was involved in a crash and ended 11th during his two most recent races at the track.

"We didn't have the Dirt Cup results we wanted a couple of weeks ago there so hopefully we'll put together a great weekend and can come away with a win or two," he said.

Rilat won the Summer Nationals preliminary night last year before he finished third during the finale. Those were two of his eight podium finishes and 15 top 10s during 21 races at Skagit Speedway since the start of the 2013 season.

"We've won a few races at Skagit throughout the years and that's what our focus is this weekend," he said. "There will definitely be a lot of great drivers there so it will take a top performance to get to Victory Lane."

Rilat and Saumure are coming off their first podium finish of the season together on July 16 at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., during the NSA Shootout.

"Confidence and momentum are key in motor sports and we have both of those things," Rilat said. "I know the team will give me a great car so if I do a good job and we don't run into any bad luck we should be a contender both nights this weekend."

SEASON STATS -

21 races, 1 win, 5 top fives, 9 top 10s, 13 top 15s, 18 top 20s

"It's kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race," Rilat said. "I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

"He's been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he's one of the best in the country. There's only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best."

Rocky Road ahead for Smooth Operator

Summer Nationals Champion Bobby Pierce to challenge World of Outlaws at Prairie Dirt Classic and USA Nationals

CONCORD, N.C. – July 25, 2016 – Second place was not the first loser in this instance. Rather, Bobby Pierce’s runner-up finish at Oakshade Raceway (Ohio) July 16 was enough for him to secure his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals Championship.

By the numbers Pierce dominated, winning nearly half the feature events (10 of 22) in a two-month span. Pierce, claiming his second consecutive championship, became the first repeat Summer Nationals champion since 2009. He is the fifth driver in Summer Nationals history to cross over the double-digit win mark.

“It was really cool winning it again,” Pierce said. “How good it went, it made it simple. It’s still the ‘Hell Tour’ for sure. It took a lot of hard work keeping the car together. There are a lot of Illinois guys that are good at those tracks and the same thing when we ventured out of the state. It’s a tough deal, especially keeping everything up and running.”

Following a season when he scored three of the five weekly Summer Nationals championships and finished in the top 10 in all but two shows, the “Smooth Operator” will test an even tougher terrain against the 15 World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series drivers and company. Pierce will compete at two of the Outlaws' marquee events this season, the Prairie Dirt Classic and USA Nationals.

The Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury Speedway (Ill.) will be two days of bumper-to-bumper action in front an anticipated standing room only crowd. Pierce brings track experience to Fairbury. He placed third in the event in 2013, which was the Outlaw’s inaugural year to the event. Pierce started 17 th that night and led more than half the race.

Most recently, Pierce has had two polarizing shots at the track. Though Pierce placed eighth in July’s Summer National’s stop, he won the $10,000-to-win FALS Frenzy earlier in May. Pierce will seek to double-up on his successes, breaking the tie in his favor with another win.

“We’ve been on a pretty good hot streak, and hopefully we can keep that rolling,” said Pierce after locking up a championship. “But there will be a lot of tough competition there. We’ve never been able to get an Outlaw race so heck yeah, that’s a motivator. I guess I’ll just have to try harder.”

The Oakwood, Ill. native will play sheriff to the Outlaws in front of his home crowd at Fairbury, which is just 80 miles south from him. It will be a classic Midwest stare-down between Pierce and the Outlaws to be decided Friday, July 29 and finally with the 100-lap main event Saturday, July 30.

Pierce has played second fiddle to the cast of Outlaws in the past, most recently finishing second to three-time series champion Josh Richards at Farmer City Raceway (Ill.) in April. More notably, Pierce placed second at USA Nationals in 2014. His streak of seconds outside of his Summer Nationals accolades will be a trend he hopes to break when running beside the Outlaws. The USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway (Wis.) will be another opportunity from Thursday, August 4 to Saturday, August 6.

Pierce won the Summer Nationals tour by more than 200 points this season, but he expects the margins to be much closer. The “high car counts and competition” will up the ante after having a runaway season, so preparation – similar to his Summer Nationals plan of action – is a key variable for both multi-day events.

“We have some time to get the cars ready,” Pierce said. “I’ll be ready for Fairbury and Cedar Lake.”

Cedar Lake Speedway traditionally requires a harder tire, which actually gives him a little comfort. Though a harder tire naturally provides less grip, Pierce is confident that he and his team can make the essential changes so the car is not “driving off the other three tires” all throughout the night. During Summer Nationals, the options for the right rear tire are vast; this particular event zeros in on one spec, which he feels will make adjusting “a lot simpler.”

Pierce embraces the upcoming challenges, with hopes of eventually testing his strength on late model racing’s biggest stages on a consistent basis. It just means more time and sponsorship; he has plenty of drive to get there. On the forefront though, he just wants a clear path to the checkers within the next few weeks. It may foreshadow what is to come for the 20-year-old.

“I’ve thought about [competing full-time] before,” Pierce said. “We’re just waiting and seeing. It would be a cool deal to run the World of Outlaws. The money and points system is really cool. Maybe in the future... maybe in the near future... you never know.”
