Rodney Sanders Sweeps Silver Dollar Nationals; WMDTC Next

Happy, Texas (07/24/13) - Rodney Sanders enjoyed a wildly successful weekend during the 3rd Annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) as he powered his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified to back-to-back wins and collected almost $10,000 for his efforts.

Rodney Sanders won a thriller in United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competition on Friday night as he topped Jason Hughes for the victory.

Thirty-six entries converged on the high-banked, 3/8 mile oval, and a win in his heat race sent Sanders to the redraw for the 30 lap feature event, where he was the recipient of the 5th starting spot. Rodney progressively worked his way forward through the top five early in the event, and by the race's midway point he raced his way into the 2nd spot as he set his sights on the leader, Jason Hughes. The duo battled for the top spot for the next several laps before Sanders took control on lap 28. A caution on the white flag lap resulted in a two lap shootout to the checkers.

Unable to close the gap the first time around, Hughes found a sweet spot on the final lap and grinded through turns 3-4 to pull even with Sanders as they exited the final corner. As they crossed the finish line side by side, Sanders beat Hughes to the stripe by a mere 0.084 second to score the victory and pocket the $4,000 top prize. Hughes, meanwhile, settled for a disappointing runner-up finish after leading the first 28 of 30 laps. Bone Jr., Terry Phillips, and Trevor Hunt rounded out the top five finishers.

He wasn't finished with business on Saturday night as he set his sights on another win. Preliminary action found him starting deep in the grid for a heat race, and with heavy and fast track conditions, passing would difficult. As a result he was forced to run a b-main, and would charge to a 2nd place finish to lock into the 15th starting spot for the 35 lap finale. Despite starting deep in the field Sanders had raced his way into the top five by lap 14 and would soon find himself in the 2nd position. On lap 23 Sanders shot past leader, Jason Hughes, for the top spot before going on to lead the remainder of the event to score his 15th win of the season, which was $5,350. He also earned the Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award for passing more cars than any other competitor in the feature. Full results from the events are available at www.USMTS.com .

Rodney also competed with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) over the course of the weekend in the $27,000-to-win event. With 55 Super Late Models entered Rodney fell short of locking into the feature via heat race action, but a 3rd place finish in his b-main locked him into the 27th starting spot for the 80 lap finale on Saturday evening. Unfortunately overheating issues early in the feature forced Sanders to retire to a 33rd place finish. Full results from the program are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

The upcoming weekend, July 24th-27th will take Rodney Sanders and the Swan Energy team to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the 3rd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship, which will culminate with a $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday night. For more information on this mega-event please visit www.USMTS.com .

Two-Time Champ Boom Briggs Finds NDRL's ULMS Success Again

July 24, 2013 (Bear Lake, PA) The National Dirt Racing League's United Late Model Series (ULMS) Speedweek made stops at four local tracks this past week, including McKean County Raceway, Lernerville Speedway, Sharon Speedway, and Eriez Speedway.   Each night would showcase a 30-Lap event, paying $3,000 to the victor.   Defending, Two-Time Champion Boom Briggs and his #99 Super Late Model were all set for the four night swing, but Mother Nature had other plans in store.

Thursday evenings show at McKean County Raceway was greeted by rain showers which unfortunately forced the postponement of the event until this Friday, July 26.   Things were not looking much better for Friday's show at one of the nation's premier dirt track facilities - Lernerville Speedway.  The skies darkened and the raindrops began to fall just as hot laps were to begin.  Fortunately, it was only a quick shower and racing began after a slight delay.  Boom lined up on the outside pole of his heat race.  After a slight hiccup on the start, which also brought out the caution, Boom was moved to the back of the pack.   He overcame the poor start and drove to a 5th place transfer spot, positioning him for a 14th place starting slot in the A-main.  The white #99 Rocket Chassis was working excellent and Boom moved steadily forward, finishing in fourth place.

On Saturday, the tour moved to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH.  Things once again did not look good, as weather forced another rain delay.  Things finally got under way, and Boom would come home third in his heat race.  After the redraw, Boom and crew would learn that the pole position had their name on it.  The car was filled with VP Racing Fuel, some adjustments made to the Rocket Chassis, and a set of freshly grooved and siped Hoosier Racing Tires were mounted on the car. All that remained now was for the "Bear Lake Banzai" to do his job, and that he did.   Leading all 30-laps while holding off several late-race charges from some formidable competition, Boom would state "Wow that was a fun race, the car worked great.  I needed this."  He continued "We have struggled a bit this year, so it's good to finally get back to Victory Lane."

Sunday's visit to Eriez Speedway was not as successful.  Boom wheeled the car to a seventh place finish at the 3/8 mile oval.  He looks to rebound this Friday at McKean County Raceway's conclusion of the ULMS Speedweek.  For more information, visit UnitedLateModelSeries.com and McKeanCountyRaceway.com.

Boom would like to thank his 2013 sponsors and supporters:  Meridien Hardwoods, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, Horton Equipment, Asel Enterprises, Briggs Transport, Tony Stec Lumber, Chub Frank Racing, CJ's Auto Transport, Custom Race Engines, Rocket Chassis, Hoosier Racing Tires, JNJ Motorsports Media, Buccola's, Sunset Dairy, Bodies by Lacki, GW Performance, Integra Shocks, Slavic Custom Racing Shirts and Decals, VP Racing Fuel, All Star Performance, Outerwears, Safety Solutions, Hypercoils, Brinn Transmissions, Mason Racin, Wrisco Aluminum, Speed Bear Fasteners, Ringers Gloves,Schuyler's, Frankland, Motul Lubricants, Aurora Rod Ends, Kirkey, Performance Bodies, Jones Racing Products, Wiles Driveshafts, Cruise with the Champions, Weld Racing, and KRC Power Steering.

Regional campaign complete, Hunt for USMTS Casey’s Cup up next for Trevor Hunt Racing

KEARNEY, Mo. (July 23) — After 36 events, regional points races for the USMTS Modifieds wrapped up on Saturday, July 20, and now Trevor Hunt looks ahead to the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup with momentum on his side and a sixth-place ranking in the championship points chase.

It all got started in 179 days at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, where the 14-year-old racer kicked off his first rookie season with the United States Modified Touring Series. Regional points races wrapped up Saturday night at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., where the driver of the #99h Trevor Hunt Racing/FVP/Eibach Springs GRT Chassis recorded his sixth top-10 finish of the campaign.

This past week’s action kicked off on Tuesday at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., where the team has raced and tested several times this season, Hunt was on a rail, leading his heat race against a tough field when the brand new engine under the hood blew up with two laps to go. He wasn’t able to race again, but the team was fortunate to get a "loaner" engine from Zack VanderBeek.

Wednesday took the USMTS Rookie of the Year points leader to the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. Hunt raced from fifth to third in a tough heat race to get a ninth-place starting spot in the main event. The track was already “rubbered-up” by the time the feature started, so passing was tough to do. He held on for a satisfying seventh-place finish behind Johnny Scott, Rodney Sanders, Dereck Ramirez, Jason Krohn, Ryan Gustin and Jason Hughes.

Prior to competing in the 3rd Annual Silver Dollar Nationals on Friday and Saturday, Hunt and his team visited Joe’s Karting in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Thursday for a three-hour meet 'n' greet. In addition to doing some kart racing, Hunt joined the hosts of Slingin’ Dirt to talk about his career and experience with the USMTS.

On Friday, Hunt ran from eight to third in his heat race and made the redraw. After drawing the third starting spot, he finished fifth for his second top-5 of the year with the USMTS. On Saturday night, a broken radiator in the heat saddled Hunt with a last-place start in the "B" Main. He made it to fifth, which transferred him into the "A" Main where he started 22nd and finished ninth.

With two top-10 finishes and a top-5 during the four-race “Clash of the Titans” events, Hunt also secured ninth in the final rankings of both the Northern and Central Region standings. He will be ranked sixth among all drivers when the Hunt for the Casey's Cup starts Aug. 2 in Batesville, Ark.

Points Standings - Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup (top 10):
1. Johnny Scott ... 99
2. Zack VanderBeek ... 97
3. Jason Hughes ... 94
4. Kelly Shryock ... 89
5. Stormy Scott ... 84
6. Trevor Hunt ... 76
7. Joey Galloway ... 70
8. Dereck Ramirez ... 59
9. Thomas Tillison Jr. ... 54
10. Masen Big Eagle ... 52
