FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wheatland, Missouri (April 6, 2016) - This weekend marks the return of the Lucas Oil MLRA. Fans, competitors and officials will gather this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri for the Third Annual Spring Nationals presented by RacingJunk.com.

This season is the 28th consecutive year of racing for the Missouri based MLRA tour. It's long track record of over 600 successful events make it the third oldest continually operating Late Model tour in the country.

Typically the second racing weekend of the year, this year's early race at Wheatland is wide open with the cancellation of last weekend's event in Nebraska. Drivers will converge form across the region to compete for Friday's $2,000 to win top prize, while Saturday's winner will net $5,000. It's the only chance for Super Late Model pilots to get some laps on the speedway prior to May's 24th Annual Show Me 100.

"We've made the MLRA Spring Nationals an annual kickoff to our season and the big-show, two-night format has proven a popular way to get things going," commented Lucas Oil MLRA and Speedway Director Dan Robinson. "Along with the usual excitement for a new season, it's also the MLRA season opener and that doubles the anticipation."

"The weather forecast, while a little cool on Friday, has no mention of rain. Everything at the speedway is in place and ready to go. We can't wait to see all our great fans as we fire up another season."

Among the speedway's changes are several facility upgrades. Aesthetically fans will notice the front and backstretch walls painted bright red, the infield grass has also filled in and it's beautiful green will provide a contrast not before seen on a race night.

Saturday's feature was originally scheduled to pay $3,000, however Pitts Homes, longtime supporter of the track, has added $1,500 to the winner's purse in celebration of their 45th Anniversary of business. $500 was also added from Mary Jenkins, wife of the late Ron Jenkins, who initially built Wheatland Raceway.

Practice prior to the Third Annual Spring Nationals will take place Thursday evening from 6-9 PM. Pit Passes are $25. The grandstand will be open for fans absolutely free and limited concessions will be available from the pit side concession stand.
