FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WHEATLAND, MO (July 1st, 2015) - This weekend the Lucas Oil MLRA makes its lone journey to Oklahoma for the season. Action will be quick and abundant at Salina Highbanks Speedway, both Friday and Saturday, in the 2nd Annual Freedom Classic.

This will be the second consecutive season for the Lucas Oil MLRA to visit with the current speedway ownership group in place. Salina Highbanks Speedway offers a unique race track featuring more banking on the straightaways than many tracks feature in the turns. The size and shape allows for high speed excitement and the ability to race at least four wide in the turns, if necessary.

Terry Phillips continues to lead the series championship standings, with Ryan Gustin hot on his heels in second. Jason Utter continues to impress and sits third, while one of the hottest drivers in the country, Jesse Stovall, is fourth. 2014 champion Chad Simpson rounds out the top five.

Last season Phillips and Jeremy Payne were victorious in the 1st Annual Freedom Classic.

A newer driver in the Super Late Model ranks, Shannon Scott, will be making his Salina Highbanks Late Model debut this weekend. However, he has quite a few laps at Salina in lower divisions and is proud to call it one of his home tracks.

"I was off chasing the Rookie of the Year title with the Comp Cams Series last year and couldn't make this race," said Scott. "I love this track and the people who own and run it. The atmosphere is great there too. I know Salina is where we need to be this weekend."

Scott began in the track's 360 Modified division in 2011 with six wins and a second place finish in the points standings. The following year he came back and ran a full season in the A-Modified division, finishing with Rookie of the Year honors and a feature win.

"Last year we took the car up there and tested a couple times. I really enjoy the track. You can really keep your foot in the gas and keep momentum up. I like racing that way. I'm excited to be able to race it there finally."

In just his second full year of running Super Late Models, Scott has knocked down a pair of wins at Outlaw Motor Speedway, just down the highway from Salina. He fields a Rocket Chassis, with a Cornett Engine supplying the power. Scott's support for the operation comes from Henryetta Ford, which he and wife Rikki have owned for seven plus years.

Following the conclusion of Friday evening's racing program, fans will want to stick around for a huge Independence Day fireworks display. Friday's race winner will earn $3,000, while Saturday's event boasts a $5,000 top prize.
