Wheatland, Missouri (May 31, 2016) - The second scheduled triple header of the weekend is quickly approaching. This Thursday through Saturday the Lucas Oil MLRA invades three familiar ovals across Iowa and Missouri.
Right out of the gate is the first return trip of the year. Lee County Speedway hosted the series back on May 5th. Brandon Sheppard wowed the packed grandstands as he took the lead and rolled to his first victory of the year. Brian Birkhofer led the first half of the feature before retiring just short of the finish. The stop in Donnellson, Iowa kicks off the weekend Thursday evening.
Stop two of three is Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Last year's visit to the monster half-mile was unfortunately washed away, along with the final weekend visit to Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri.
Two seasons ago was the last time the series raced at both facilities. Former Lucas Oil MLRA Champion John Anderson captured the checkers in Oskaloosa, while Ryan Gustin delivered one of his most dominant Late Model performances to date, two nights later, in Moberly.
Jason Papich is clinging to a slim 16 point advantage over both Terry Phillips and Jesse Stovall. Dave Eckrich is fourth and Tony Jackson Jr. sits fifth.
Both Stovall and Jackson are coming off of incredible runs inside of the top five in last weekend's Show Me 100. Both are expected at all three stops this weekend.
"It seems like forever since we've ran one of our events," commented Assistant Series Director Ernie Leftwich. "The rain was pretty cruel to us in May. I'm ready to get going again and know many of the racers are too. This is a great weekend on tap, and we are glad to be returning to some awesome places. I hope to see a ton of Lucas Oil MLRA fans this weekend!"
