Hagar Earns First Career Win at Whynot Motorsports Park

Inside Line Promotions - MERIDIAN, Miss. (July 12, 2016) - Derek Hagar pocketed a $2,500 check for claiming the USCS Series event at Whynot Motorsports Park last Saturday.

The win was Hagar's first career at the track and his 11th trip to Victory Lane this season.

Following a rain delay, Hagar opened the night by finishing where he started - fourth - in the dash.

"We had a car that was unbelievably tight," he said. "We had a rain shower and the race track stayed pretty fast all night long."

After a couple of adjustments on the setup Hagar won a heat race from the pole position. He then drew the zero for the feature inversion, which put him on the pole for the 30-lap feature.

"We had an unbelievable car," he said. "It was wicked fast. We never really had a challenge for the lead. We put on a good show for fans. It was a packed house. They had a great fan base for as much rain as they got. It was a great crowd."

Hagar led the duration of the feature and he lapped up to sixth place despite a trio of cautions staggered throughout the main event.

"On that last caution we looked over to the front straightaway and I could see the second-place car," he said. "It was a great night for us."

Hagar is scheduled to return to action with the USCS Series this Saturday at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga.

Hanks Uses Late-Race Pass at Lawton to Garner Fourth Win of the Season

Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (July 12, 2016) - Brandon Hanks returned to the Winner's Circle last weekend during the final race of the ASCS Red River Region Sooner Sweep.

The win was the fourth of the season for Hanks and it boosted his lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings to 191 points with only seven races remaining this season. It also marked the ninth top-five finish of the season, which tied a season best for Hanks.

Hanks kicked off the weekend on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the second-highest number - seven - to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

"The line to run was just around the bottom," he said. "You could run the top in turns one and two, but if you got off the bottom in turns three and four you'd slide up. We had a restart and I was all over Alex Sewell. I didn't want to follow him so I went to the top and tried it. It was like I was in the marbles. The guy behind me was going to pass me and he decided to put me in the wall. That ended our night."

Hanks was battling for a top five early in the main event when another car ran into him. The collision resulted in Hanks flipping and he was credited with a 19th-place finish.

The ensuing night's race at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Wainwright, Okla., rained out and the weekend concluded on Saturday at Lawton Speedway. Hanks picked up a position to place third in a heat race, which was good enough to make the feature redraw. This time he pulled the No. 5 to start fifth.

"We were second right off the bat about two laps in," he said. "I spent the whole race behind Mickey (Walker). He was doing an awesome job. He got to traffic and really slowed down. I kept running my line around the top in turns one and two. I think I was the only guy doing that. With about five laps to go he followed a lapped car on the bottom. I was on the top and I used the lapped car as a pick. Then I had two lapped cars in front of me running the top and bottom. I couldn't hardly get by, but we held on for the win."

The victory gives Hanks momentum as he is heading into ASCS Red River Region races this Friday at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark., and Saturday at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.

Blaney Posts Top Five during Lou Blaney Memorial with All Stars

Inside Line Promotions - HARTFORD, Ohio (July 12, 2016) - Dale Blaney garnered his 22nd top-five finish of the season last Saturday during the Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon Speedway.

"I've been trying to win that race for eight years," he said. "The track was pretty different that night from Speedweek. It was pretty choppy. We weren't as good through the holes."

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings Inc. sponsored CH Motorsports team opened Saturday's Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event, which honored Blaney's late father, by setting quick time during qualifying.

"The funny thing is we drew a 10 to qualify," he said. "That was my dad's number for just about every year that he raced. My brother drew after me and he drew a nine. That was kind of a weird thing."

Blaney then finished fourth in a heat race to lock himself into the dash, where he ended third to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

"I didn't get a very good start in the feature," he said. "I fell to fifth on the first lap. I just never got going. We got back to third at one point, but I never felt like I was really a car that could contend for the win. I had a third-place car and was a fifth-place driver."

Blaney closed the night with a fifth-place finish.

He will return to action Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic and Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the 33rd annual Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"Any big race in Ohio gets me keyed up," he said. "The Kings Royal for me is the biggest race every year. This week I'm ready to roll. To put the Brad Doty Classic in front of it every year and now this year it's at Attica, which is one of my favorite places, hopefully we can just have a good week."

Blaney has won the last two World of Outlaws races at Attica Raceway Park. He was also the 2000 winner of the Kings Royal.

Baughman Captures Dream Debut at Lernerville Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - HARTFORD, Ohio (July 12, 2016) - Josh Baughman accomplished a dream last Friday at Lernerville Speedway, where he won during his debut at the high-banked track.

"We had a good night Friday night," he said. "Everything went pretty well. That one is definitely up there. The last time I was there I was 8 or 9 years old and we were watching the World of Outlaws."

Baughman, who spent some of his childhood summers with his grandparents in the area, opened last Friday's 410ci winged sprint car race by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"We changed some things up in our 410 package and we had speed," he said. "We took the lead coming out of turn two. We got in lapped traffic and got passed, but we got him back a couple of laps later. I felt like it was ours to lose. We had a really fast car."

Baughman held on for the win, which was his second of the season.

His team carried that momentum into Saturday's Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon Speedway.

Baughman qualified seventh quickest overall and third in his group. He then won a heat race and the dash to start the $10,000-to-win main event on the pole.

"We were really fast and I felt like we were the car to beat, but on the first lap the nose wing fell down," he said. "You don't get those chances very often. We were fast right out of the box. It was heartbreaking."

Baughman was spun by a fellow competitor when a caution came out a couple of laps later while running third.

"I went to the work area and they tried fixing the front wing," he said. "I made three or four more laps, but I pulled off because the front wing wasn't right."

He was credited with a 24th-place finish.

Baughman returns to action this Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic and Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the 33rd annual Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. It will be his first time at both marquee events.
