Bub McCool to Unveil Halloween Car 2014 at Gumbo Nationals

Vicksburg, MS (10/01/14) – Most drivers use an off weekend from the track to work the cobwebs out of their race cars. However, Bub McCool did just the opposite by getting the cobwebs and creatures of the night installed on his #57J McCool Logging/ Victory Circle/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model as he prepares to debut it this weekend at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) during the 8th Annual Gumbo Nationals.

Each year McCool dons a new look on his hot rod to pay homage to the month that houses Halloween, and this year is no different. While the look and design is still top secret and won't be unveiled until the team unloads at Greenville Speedway this weekend, the look is sure to not disappoint. To go with the new design is a full line of apparel including t-shirts and hoodies, which will be available in the Bub McCool souvenir trailer in the grandstand area all weekend.

In 2013 Bub picked up his third straight and fourth Gumbo Nationals title overall and will return this year looking for more as the ante has been increased to $10,000-to-win. The weekend opens on Thursday night with a test and tune session, while Friday evening will see time trials and heat race action. Festivities will climax on Saturday evening with last chance races and the 75 lap finale. Chase Junghans Notches Top Ten at Knoxville; Georgia Lucas Weekend Next

Manhattan, Kansas (10/01/14) - Chase Junghans went toe-to-toe with many of the nation's best drivers over the weekend during the 11th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals in his #18 Shop Quik Racing/Capital/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model, and came away with a solid top ten run to show for his efforts.

After a week away from the track, Chase Junghans traveled to Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) for the 11th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals at the famed, 1/2 mile oval. A strong field for seventy-nine Super Late Models were on hand for the $7,000-to-win, preliminary event on Thursday night. Chase advanced to a third place finish in his heat race, earning him the eleventh starting spot for the 25 lap, preliminary feature. Junghans battled around the top ten early on before ultimately retiring to a disappointing 24th place finish.

In Friday's preliminary action Chase struggled in qualifying, which left him starting at the back of his heat race. He mounted a convincing charged to a fifth place finish, but only the top three finishers advanced, sending him to a b-main. Junghans battled the handle on his #18 entry during the b-main as he faded backwards, and ultimately failed to qualify for the 25 lap, $7,000-to-win preliminary feature.

Chase's efforts the two previous nights positioned him starting sixth in the b-main on Saturday evening. He advanced to a third place finish in the b-main, earning him 27th starting spot for the 100 lap, $40,000-to-win finale. Despite starting near the back of the pack, the Manhattan, Kansas ace charged through the field to record a solid ninth place finish.

"Just to make the finale at Knoxville was huge, but to advance eighteen spots to finish 9th was a huge deal for my team and I," said an elated Junghans. "I feel like we keep getting better and better with our program, and this weekend proved it."

Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

The upcoming weekend, October 4th-5th, will take Junghans to the state of Georgia for a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) events. On Saturday night the Dixie Shootout will be held at Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Georgia) before action moves to Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) on Sunday evening. Bell Defends Gold Crown after Pair of WoO Top Fives!

Lonnie Wheatley, NORMAN, Okla. (October 1, 2014) – Some strong momentum is likely what his rivals weren’t necessarily hoping for going into Gold Crown Midget Nationals weekend.

But, that’s exactly what Christopher Bell got with a pair of World of Outlaws top five finishes this past weekend including a runner-up finish at Indiana’s Bloomington Speedway on Friday night and then a strong fourth place run in Saturday night’s series debut at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway.

This week, the 19-year-old from Norman, OK, defends his Gold Crown Midget Nationals title in the Kunz Motorsports Toyota No. 71 at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, beginning Thursday night with some double-duty in store for Friday and Saturday as he will also wheel the Fox Brothers No. 53 in MOWA winged 410-ci Sprint Car competition.

“It was one of the best we’ve had in a while, we were needing that,” Bell said of this past weekend’s World of Outlaws double in the Fox Brothers machine.

After winning heat races on both nights, Bell started both features from the front row.  Bell settled for second at Bloomington after a spirited duel with Donny Schatz and then was fourth in the series’ maiden outing at Berlin.

“We made some changes to the car and it was really good, the car was great all weekend,” Bell said of the No. 53 machine.

While qualifying efforts had hindered recent tries in World of Outlaws action, that wasn’t the case this past weekend with Bell timing in eighth at Bloomington and sixth at Berlin.

“Qualifying is everything, you have to qualify well to give yourself a chance,” Bell said.

Bell took full advantage both nights with the end results pushing his season total to 47 overall top-fives.
“It was pretty cool to be successful on two totally opposite racetracks,” Bell says.  “Bloomington is small and had a big cushion while Berlin is bigger and was as slick as anything I’ve been on in a while.”

With a pair of successful WoO runs in the books, Bell turns his attention back to the USAC Midget ranks with this weekend’s Gold Crown Nationals while also wheeling the No. 53 Sprint Car for another pair of nights.

Bell took the $10,000 winner’s share in last year’s Gold Crown Nationals at Tri-City Speedway and looks to recapture the big check along with adding to his season win total of 20 triumphs.
“We’re gonna try to get the repeat,” Bell says.  “It’s a big race and the pay is good, it’s definitely one we’d like to get.”

2014 Quick Stats:  89 races, 20 wins, 47 top-fives, 59 top-tens.
Next Up:
Thursday, Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, IL) – Kunz No. 71 Midget (USAC)
Friday, Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, IL) – Kunz No. 71 Midget (USAC) and Fox Brothers No. 53 410-ci winged Sprint Car (MOWA)
Saturday, Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, IL) – Kunz No. 71 Midget (USAC) and Fox Brothers No. 53 410-ci winged Sprint Car (MOWA)

SALDANA AND MOTTER TEAM SET TO THUNDER AT NATIONAL OPEN

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2014) – There are only seven races left on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car schedule this year.
Two of those events will play out at the National Open, a high dollar stakes race that convenes this weekend, Oct. 3-4, at Williams Grove Speedway with Saturday’s winner taking home $50,000.  The event always draws a large number of combatants and a huge fan base.

Last year at the National Open, Joey Saldana, driver of the Motter Equipment HE&M Saw Beltline Body Shop 71M, posted quick time both nights.

“This track is shaped like a paper clip and it races very technical,” said Saldana. “The Posse drivers are always tough on this track because they race it more often which gives them a leg up on driving technique and chassis set-up.  But you can be sure we will be right in there mixing it up with them.

“The fans are in for what always plays out to be ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.’ Everybody brings their A game.”

Last year on Saturday Mother Nature interfered with racing activities, causing a delay. Despite the interruption, the biggest crowd in Williams Grove history was on their feet cheering their favorite teams when the A Main took the green shortly after midnight. This event raises the bar on the competition level and the fans respond by coming out  and  packing the house.

“This is always an exciting race,” said Saldana.  “You can’t leave anything on the table and you can be sure we’ll do our best to take home the treasure chest of $50,000.”

Saldana is fifth in point standings and has seven race wins on his 2014 resume.  He is the World of Outlaws’ leading qualifier racking up 23 quick times to date.  He has led 336 laps so far this season and is looking to add to that total during the National Open.
