Pair of Top 5’s for Cody Mahoney; Deep Fried 75 Next

Seymour, Indiana (10/13/16) – Cody Mahoney notched a pair of Top 5 finishes over the weekend in Kentucky in his Black Diamond by Club 29 Race Car #4 FK Rod Ends/ Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Competing in the unsanctioned OctoberFest, Cody Mahoney traveled to Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Kentucky) on Friday for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. In a field of 15 cars, Cody scored a 4th-place finish in his heat race, locking his spot into the main event. Breaking into the Top 5, Mahoney landed a 5th-place finish in the 35-lap feature, trailing Billy Moyer Jr., Michael Chilton, Greg Johnson, and Jason Jameson across the finish line.

The following night brought Mahoney to Richmond Raceway (Richmond, Kentucky) for the annual Paul “Butterball” Woolridge Memorial. With 31 Super Late Models registered, Mahoney earned the 4th-starting spot for the feature after capturing a heat race win. Battling for a $10,059 payday, Cody dropped one position in the 59-lapper, notching a 5th-place finish behind Tyler Carpenter, Billy Moyer Jr., Tanner English, and Justin Rattliff.

Reutzel Races to Devil’s Bowl after Eldora Win

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (October 13, 2016) – “I love that place, I think I might have found a new favorite racetrack,” Aaron Reutzel said of his first visit to Ohio’s Eldora Speedway on Saturday night.

Little wonder after the reigning Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour champion romped to victory lane in the NRA Invaders 360-ci Sprint Car feature and then charged from eleven rows deep to post a top-ten finish in the All Star Circuit of Champions portion of Eldora’s “Sprintacular”.

“It was a really good night,” Reutzel summed up.

With his seventh win of the season in the books, it’s back to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action with this weekend’s Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals in Mesquite, TX, on Friday and Saturday.

Pulling double duty as he made his first trip to the famed Eldora Speedway, Reutzel took the wheel of Joe Seling’s No. 97 for the first time in All Star competition.

“We were a little off in hot laps, a little off in qualifying and a little off in the heat,” Reutzel said.  “The guys kept working at it and working at it and we were really good for the ‘B’.”

Good enough in fact to win the “B” Main after starting fifth, thus earning the 21st starting position for the feature event.

“I got a terrible start and actually lost a couple of positions right away,” Reutzel recalls.

It was full throttle towards the front after that though.

“We marched right through there with no problem, we got up to tenth and then the rubber came in,” Reutzel relates after the charge to a tenth-place finish.  “We might have got a top five without the rubber.”

Reutzel was in the familiar Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car for the NRA Invaders 360-ci portion of the event.

And the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions entry was fast right away.

“We were the next to last out to qualify and still timed in fifth,” Reutzel said of a strong qualifying effort that put him in a favorable position for the night.

Gridding the feature third aboard the Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine, Reutzel had his seventh win of the year well within sight.

“We got the lead on a restart and that was that,” Reutzel says.

Reutzel and the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance Filtration team look to add to that win total this weekend as he races in his home state of Texas for the first time since early June with this weekend’s Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals in Mesquite.

2016 Quick Stats:  87 races, 7 wins, 27 top-fives, 42 top-tens.

Bellm Set for the Stretch Run on the ASCS Trail

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (October 13, 2016) – With a fresh bullet in the rails, Kyle Bellm is set for the stretch run with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour aboard the Resource Asset Management Solutions (RAMS) No. 14k Sprint Car.

Just three more racing weekends separate Bellm from his second top-ten ranking in Lucas Oil ASCS National points in as many years after earning Rookie of the Year honors last year.

It all begins with this weekend’s Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals in Mesquite, Texas, before moving on to Creek County Speedway near Tulsa on November 4-5 and then the season-ending double at Yuma’s Cocopah Speedway on October 11-12.

Bellm and the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision team remain tenth in series points despite missing a portion of the Northwest tour.

Now, with a fresh powerplant, Bellm and the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions team look for some strong finishes to close out the season.

“We were just a little down on power the last couple of events, we had to do something to compete at the level that we need to be at,” Bellm says.  “We’ve just been in a rut, we have to get out of that.”

Plagued by misfortune over much of the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway on September 22-24, Bellm saved his best for last on the three-day show.

After taking a provisional for the September 24 main event, Bellm raced his way towards the front in short order.  “We were really good,” Bellm recalls.

All the way up to 11th in the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care entry, bad timing came into play when Bellm was collected by a spinning car.

“We were probably a seventh or eighth place car,” Bellm says.  “It just wasn’t in the cards.”

I-80 Speedway’s “Fall Brawl” in Greenwood, NE, was next on October 1.

“It was a little on the heavy side, we needed a little more horsepower,” Bellm said of the night atop the 4/10-mile clay oval.

Bellm’s night ended with a fifth-place run in a “B” Main.  “We just had no speed,” Bellm says.

With that problem addressed, Bellm and the Schaeffer Oil/Prater Designs/Racinboys team are ready for the final rounds of the season that has already included a dozen top-five feature wins including an April 22 triumph at Humboldt, KS.

And no better place to get started on the stretch run than this weekend’s Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, the site of Bellm’s first National Tour win in 2013.

2016 Quick Stats:  42 races, 1 win, 12 top-fives, 15 top-tens.

Up Next: Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals in Mesquite, TX, this Friday and Saturday.
