Cody Mahoney Bests Brownstown Fair Race Foes; USA Nationals Next

Seymour, Indiana (08/02/16) – On Saturday night Cody Mahoney piloted his Black Diamond by Club 29 Race Car #77 FK Rod Ends/ Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to his second win in as many weeks. His latest triumph came at Brownstown Speedway during the annual Fair Race.

“Things are really starting to come together nicely for our team,” said Mahoney. “Two wins in two weeks is something we are very proud to accomplish. I just want to thank everyone, who supports this program and makes it possible.”

Running in the annual Grand Fair Race/Paul Crockett Memorial, both Adam Bowman and Cody Mahoney visited Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) on Saturday night for the unsanctioned event.

In a field of 27 entries, Mahoney recorded the fastest time in his group in qualifications, while Bowman timed in 2nd-quickest in his respective group. Cruising to a heat race win, Mahoney earned the pole starting spot for the main event. Slipping to a 5th-place finish in his heat, Adam started 13th on the feature grid.

Capturing his second-straight and third win overall, Mahoney charged to the A-Main victory over Chad Stapleton, Tanner English, Joe Godsey, and Alan Magner. Adam worked his way through the field seven positions to record a 6th- place finish.

“We struggled a little bit there in the heat race, but the car was much better for the feature,” said Bowman. “It’s great to see Cody rolling good again, and I feel like we’ve got some wins just around the corner for my car as well.”

Full results from the event are available at www.BrownstownSpeedway.com .

The upcoming weekend will find the two drivers competing at different tracks. Cody Mahoney was recently announced as a recipient of the Fans Fund sponsorship for the 29th Annual USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin). Via the program he will receive tow money to make the trip to the Wisconsin oval to compete in the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series events. On Thursday evening a $6,000-to-win affair will be held, while Friday and Saturday will culminate with a $50,000-to-win finale. For more information on the events, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .

Adam Bowman is currently unsure of where he will race on Friday night, but on Saturday evening he plans to race at Brownstown Speedway once again. For more information on the event, please visit www.BrownstownSpeedway.com .

Hanks Records Hard Charger Award During National Sprint League Debut

Inside Line Promotions - BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2016) - Brandon Hanks had a solid showing during his National Sprint League debut last Sunday at Hancock County Speedway.

Hanks, who was making only his second career start with a 410ci engine, timed in 18th quickest during qualifying before he advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event.

"We started out off a little bit," he said. "We didn't have the car in the race track like it needed to be. It took me a few laps to get adjusted. We got better as the night went on."

Hanks was involved in a spin in turn two on the second lap, but he rebounded from the back to score an 11th-place result. It was his best finish in a 410 and earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"The track took rubber around the bottom and the only way you'd pass someone is if they made a mistake," he said. "I was just there to get some laps and work on getting used to the 410. I got a full night in. I learned a lot and got more comfortable. We made some passes and I think we progressed nicely as the night went on."

Last weekend began on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Unfortunately, mechanical problems plagued the team throughout the night.

"I didn't get as many laps in as I wanted," he said. "The engine wasn't running right the whole night. We finally got it figured out and the car ran good in the B Main. By that point we hadn't worked on the car all night. I didn't really get a good test session for the 360 Knoxville Nationals."

Hanks qualified 19th quickest in his group, didn't finish the heat race and ended eighth in the B Main.

He will return to the half-mile oval this Thursday through Saturday for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.

Hagar Seeking Career-Best Finish at 360 Knoxville Nationals This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 2, 2016) - Derek Hagar is heading to Knoxville Raceway this weekend for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.

It will be his fourth time tackling the event, which runs this Thursday through Saturday in Knoxville, Iowa.

"It's a pretty big deal," he said. "We don't have a whole lot of laps around that place. With the experience we've gained since we been there and with the way our program is I feel confident going into the event."

Hagar has competed at the 360 Knoxville Nationals three times during his career. He was there last in 2014 and previously made the 360 Knoxville Nationals A Main in 2011, when he was involved in an early crash.

"We have to make smart decisions," he said. "Once you lose ground there you're in trouble. You have to make those two laps of qualifying count. Hopefully we'll be strong in qualifying and move forward every time we're on the track."

Despite rarely racing at the half-mile oval Hagar said it's a special place to him.

"There's a lot of history there," he said. "My grandfather had cars there back when it was wingless. It runs deep in our family history. My stepdad's dad has a set of bricks in the memorial part of the Hall of Fame. We don't get to go run it very often. It'd be pretty special to make the show and have a good top-five finish."

Hagar was set to compete at Greenville Speedway last Saturday. Unfortunately, rain wiped out the USCS Series event during hot laps.

Blaney Heading to Knoxville Raceway on Heels of All Star Win

Inside Line Promotions - FRANKLIN, Pa. (Aug. 2, 2016) - Dale Blaney returned to the Winner's Circle last weekend during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition.

The win was the seventh of the season for the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team, which is set to head to the Midwest for the next two weeks.

Blaney will race this Thursday through Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals before tackling the Capitani Classic at the half-mile oval on Sunday, the Front Row Challenge with the National Sprint League on Monday at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and the 56th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals next week at Knoxville Raceway.

"We need to make some laps out there," he said. "Any time you can get on that track it's helpful. Hopefully we can figure out some balance issues. For me to get on that track and run is a good thing."

Blaney is coming off a strong weekend with the All Stars. It began last Friday at Eriez Speedway in Erie, Pa., where Blaney made his debut by qualifying ninth quickest, winning a heat race and placing third in the dash to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

"We didn't qualify the best, but it got us on the front row of a heat and it was tough to pass in the heat races," he said. "We were good in the dash and we got it a little better for the feature.

"We got a good start (to the feature) and jumped from third to second. Sheldon (Haudenschild) never got away from us. I felt like I was as good as him the whole race. I haven't felt like that in a while. I knew I had a good car. I was trying to be patient early. Traffic was playing to his favor because most of the cars were on the bottom and he was on the top and I was on the bottom. The top was thin in turns one and two. About two laps after a restart he pushed over the edge and opened the door for me. I led the rest of it."

The victory was his 133rd career in All Star action.

Saturday's event at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa., rained out before the main event. Blaney was scheduled to start fourth.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Tri-City Raceway Park, where Blaney set quick time during qualifying, ended fourth in a heat race and advanced from eighth to fifth place in the dash.

"We cut a really good lap in qualifying and got ourselves in position where I didn't have to work hard in the heat," he said. "We had a good dash and gained a row. I felt like my car was really good at that point. We just weren't any good come feature-time. I went from fifth to eighth before the flag stand (on the start) and ran there for most of the race. We just struggled for 30 laps."

Blaney posted a seventh-place finish.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sides Takes Top 10s From Ohsweken Speedway and Wilmot Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - WILMOT, Wis. (Aug. 2, 2016) - Jason Sides scored two top-10 finishes last week during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition.

The action began a week ago Tuesday at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, for the Six Nations Showdown.

"We shot ourselves in the foot," he said. "We changed motors to go there and ran a motor we haven't run before. It was a little different combination and we had too much gear in it. Once we figured that out we were a lot better."

Sides qualified 17th quickest and after making a change he maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

"In the feature I thought we were going to be really good," he said. "The track got pretty slick pretty quick. We weren't tight enough. Some of the other guys could run right through the middle. We were good early for eight or 10 laps and then it went away. Late in the race we went up top and seemed to be pretty good up there."

Sides ended with a 10th-place result.

Friday's event at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., rained out midway through the event with Sides slated to start third in the dash.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Badger 40.

"We qualified decent and ran second to Joey (Saldana) in the heat race," he said. "We made a few changes for the dash. We got the lead and I was holding my own. All of a sudden here comes (David) Gravel around the top. He was a lot better than everybody there."

Sides finished second in the dash after he had timed in eighth quickest during qualifying and placed second in a heat race.

"I think everyone learned from watching him and got better for the feature," he said. "I tried to continue running the bottom and it went away after 15 to 20 laps. We were set up for the bottom, but the top had so much more momentum.

"I ran second for the first six or eight laps and then (Donny) Schatz got by us. I ran third for another six or eight laps. The restarts were what hurt us. I ran fourth for a long time. Again on a restart (Brad) Sweet got by and when he did that here comes (Daryn) Pittman. It seemed like on the restarts we weren't very good."

Sides capped the night with an eighth-place finish.

He will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Ironman 55 with the World of Outlaws.

Rilat Pockets Top Five During Summer Nationals Prelim Night at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 2, 2016) - Travis Rilat came close to recording his first victory of the season in the United States last weekend during the Bob's Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals at Skagit Speedway.

Rilat, who was driving for Richard Saumure, registered a top five during the preliminary night before he led a majority of the main event during the finale.

"It wasn't a bad weekend, but it just wasn't what we wanted," he said.

The doubleheader began on Friday with Rilat qualifying 10th quickest. He then won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to lock himself into the 10th starting position in the main event.

"I had a decent run Friday night," he said. "We got in the show, but didn't get the car going until later in the race. I think the setup didn't come on until the last half of the race."

Rilat maneuvered to a fifth-place result, which was only one spot shy of locking into Saturday's main event.

Instead he was forced to start from scratch during the finale. It began with Rilat timing in fourth quickest during qualifying before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 1 to garner the pole position for the main event.

"We had a good car all night long," he said. "We led 27 out of 40 laps. About Lap 20 the nose wing busted on the front post. That kind of screwed everything up. It made it kind of undrivable."

Rilat faded to just outside the top 10 on the last lap when there was a pileup in turn four that he missed to gain a few positions and finish seventh. That gives him 17 top 10s in 23 races at Skagit Speedway since 2013.

He and Saumure will return to action Aug. 19-20 at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., with the ASCS Frontier Region.

QUICK RESULTS -

July 29 - Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. - Qualifying: 10; Heat race: 1 (2); Feature: 5 (10).
