J.C. Morton tops USRA B-Mod Special! Larry Ferris, Tim Setzer, and David Hendrix also visit Victory Lane

Wheatland, MO- (June 9th, 2014)- With most of the other area tracks cancelled due to rain throughout the week, 119 cars jammed the Lucas Oil Speedway pit area this past Saturday night for Budweiser Weekly Racing Series competition. J.C. Morton topped a stellar 39 car field of Tri-Lakes RV USRA B-Mods to take the special $500 win courtesy of MavTV. Larry Ferris scored the win in the ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models while Tim Setzer got the job done in the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds. David Hendrix once again topped the field in the Carson's Corner Napa Factory Stocks.

The Carson's Corner Napa Factory Stocks took the track first as Chip Shaddox led the field to the green flag from his pole starting position but as has been the common theme in 2014, David Hendrix took command early. A torrid battle ensued just behind the leader as Kenny Carroll and Shaddox continued to pursue Hendrix. With just a handful of laps remaining Carroll suddenly slowed with a broken rearend dropping a trail of fluid behind. Shaddox, Johnny Coats, and George Meyer running 3rd-5th all were unsuspecting victims of circumstance as they piled into the turn 3 wall after getting in the oil and were forced to retire to the pits. With the 2nd-5th place cars now out of the race, Hendrix took the win. Francisco Escamilla had his best run of the season to finish in 2nd while Otterville, Missouri's Clayton Cambell crossed the AAA Finish in 3rd followed closely by Marc Carter and Toby Ott in 4th and 5th respectively.

The second main event of the night was another star studded field of Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds with Tim Setzer once again showing the way around Lucas Oil Speedway from his 6th starting position to take the win. Chanute, Kansas' John Allen charged from 14th to 2nd at the finish as a late race caution may have changed the outcome but the race remained green in the late stages of the race. Defending Track Champion Terry Schultz finished in the 3rd spot after starting 10th. Kearney, Missouri's Trevor Hunt and Columbia's Danny Crane rounded out the Top-5.

In ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Model action, Nevada, Missouri's Larry Ferris brought his Buzzard powered mount from his 8th starting spot to pick up a popular win after overtaking pole sitter and early race leader Brian Schutt. J.D. Hubert was the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Charger of the race as he vaulted all the way to 2nd at the end from his 13th starting spot. Schutt slipped back to 3rd at the finish. Dwight Niehoff and Phil Edmundson battled to the finish with Niehoff holding on for 4th at the end and Edmundson settling for 5th.

The final event of the evening was a legendary battle between two of the region's best USRA Modified drivers as J.C. Morton held off Kris Jackson to score the win in the Tri-Lakes RV USRA B-Mods. With an absolutely perfectly smooth and slick racetrack, Morton hung on the bottom groove while Jackson clung to the far top shelf as they raced lap after lap side by side before Morton gained a slight advantage at the end as the top groove gave out slightly in the waning laps. Jackson held on for second at the finish with local favorite Mike Striegel just behind the leaders in 3rd after starting in the 9th spot. Jake Richards and Chris Hawkins took the final two spots in the top-5.

This coming weekend June 13th-15th, the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series makes it's first appearance of 2014 to Lake Lucas for the 3rd Annual John Haas Memorial Drag Boat Classic featuring the wild 250-mph Top Fuel Hydros. The Dirt Track will also be busy on Saturday night, June 14th for 93.5 Rocks Lucas Oil Speedway night with a full program of Budweiser Weekly Racing Series action.
