Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Takes Easter Weekend off, Heads to Mississippi and Texas

WAYCROSS, GA (March 26, 2013) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will take Easter weekend off, following a successful and exciting Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway last weekend. Following the short break, the series will be heading south to Mississippi and Texas on April 5th and 6th. The LOLMDS will sanction a pair of $10,000 to win events that will host the nation's top dirt late model drivers and some of the strongest regional racers in the country.

On Friday night, April 5th, the series will make its first stop at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, MS before heading to Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, TX on Saturday night, April 6th. There will be a complete show both nights with RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and $10,000 to win 50-lap feature events.

In last year's inaugural visit to the Don Cliburn-promoted Jackson Motor Speedway, Don O'Neal withstood a strong field of entrants before a record-setting crowd and won the event. O'Neal passed Jimmy Owens with 12 laps to go to take the $10,000 victory. Last year at Lonestar Speedway, in a thrilling finish, Jared Landers got by Jimmy Owens on the final lap to take his only LOLMDS win of 2012 at the Sam Hafertepe, Jr. promoted facility.

The LOLMDS just completed another exciting "Indiana Icebreaker" at Brownstown (IN) Speedway as fans saw Carpentersville, IL driver Dennis Erb charge from the 8th starting position to record his third LOLMDS victory in 2013. The win vaulted Erb into second place in Lucas Oil Championship Points. O'Neal finished second to Erb this past weekend and retains the series championship points lead heading to MS and TX.

Last weekend's Icebreaker marked the first event since the series instituted the new tire rule as drivers competed at Brownstown Speedway. Numerous drivers gave raved reviews and spoke highly about the new tire rule and the racing action. "The new tires worked just fine, we hit on everything just right, and once the track cleaned up, you could race all over it," stated Indiana Icebreaker winner, Erb.

"We love the new tire rule that the series put into place. We feel everyone is on a level playing field now and the fact you don't need to carry nearly as many tires as we had been carrying really helps us lower budget race teams to be able to compete with these national stars," stated Greg Johnson, 3rd place finisher at the Indiana Icebreaker.

"The series is really excited about going back to Mississippi and Texas again this year! This should be an exciting weekend of racing for the great fans in that area," exclaiming Ritchie Lewis, Director. "We're very happy how the first event under the new tire rule turned out. The fans saw some great racing at Brownstown, with two and three wide racing all through the field. The response from the drivers was well received about the new tires and the fact it takes less tires now to compete at a series event makes it better for everyone," stated Ritchie Lewis, Series Director, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

The tire rule in effect for both Jackson Motor Speedway and Lonestar Speedway on April 5th and 6th will be as follows: The right rear must be a Hoosier 01, 03, 06, or LM40. The left rear and fronts must be a Hoosier rib 1300, or rib 1350.
