LARGE CROWD ENJOYS THE FIRECRACKER TWIN 50’S AT LEGIT SPEEDWAY PARK WEST PLAINS

A large crowd was on hand Saturday night for the big Firecracker Twin 50’s sponsored by Hood’s Performance of West Plains. The weekend started with qualifiers on Friday night to determine the top 18 cars in USRA B Mod and Super Stock. Then on Saturday night there was a last chance qualifier for the remaining 6 spots and a “Pole Dash” to determine the starting lineup for the front 6, as well as a fireworks display sponsored by Air Evac Lifeteam.

In the Super Stock feature, it was Jeremy Russell (KEG1) racing his way to a $5000 prize. Russell started inside on row 2 and overtook the leader on lap 5 when Brian Worley (166) of St. Mary Mo spun from contact in turn 2 resulting in a chain reaction pileup of nearly half the field. When racing resumed, Russell had the lead.  Once he was in the front, Russell never looked back, leading the rest of the race and putting on a great show for the fans. Worley raced his way back through the field to finish in 7th after the early spin.  2nd place honors went to Aaron Carr (4) of Judsonia Arkansas and Wayne Brooks
(UFO) of Bald Knob Arkansas finished in 3rd.

In the USRA B Mod feature it was Toby Thompson (24T) from Mountain Grove Missouri running away with the show. Thompson who started in the 2nd row overtook the leader on lap 3. From there he cleanly raced his way to the 50 lap finish and the checkered flag. For his efforts, Thompson claimed the $2000 prize.  There was a tense moment when Travis Burnett (99X) from Ava Mo flipped and rolled his car in turn 3.
Thankfully, Burnett was uninjured, and in a great show of ‘class’, he refused the “rollover fund” telling the officials to save it for someone who needs it. The rollover fund is paid into each week by the drivers to help those who roll their car during a race.  The current USRA B Mod National Points Leader, Ryan Gillmore (66) of Springfield Mo finished in 2nd and JC Morton (18) of Springfield Mo finished in 3rd.

There was a UMP Late model feature on Saturday as well, and Alton Missouri’s Scott Crigler (12) had a wire-to-wire win. Justin Wells
(98) of Aurora finished in 2nd and Robby Moore (66) of Broseley Missouri finished in 3rd.

Friday night was qualifying night for the 50 lap features and there was also a Bone stock feature as well That feature saw Ethan Rushin
(14) of Poplar Bluff MO come away with another win after Stewart Pringle (17) of Willow Springs was disqualified in the post-race tech inspection. Davey Chaney (22) of Birch Tree MO finished in 2nd and Ray Chaney (8) of Birch Tree MO finished in 3rd.

Points racing resumes again this weekend in all classes. Gates open Saturday at 5 PM. Hot Laps at 6:30. Racing at 7.
