Rain on Saturday didn’t slow down the fans or the action at Legit Speedway Saturday night.  Fans came out in good number to see all six classes in competition. The track was very fast and tacky, which generated lots of cautions throughout the night for flat tires, as drivers pushed their cars to the limits around the 3/8 mile clay track.

Driving his very first race was Stone Peterson of West Plains. He was competing in the Bone Stock Division. The only other competitor to make the feature was his uncle Shawn Peterson. The crowd was all pulling for Stone to beat his uncle, but Shawn wasn’t cooperating, as he had a significant lead when, as fate would have it, a wheel came off, leaving Stone the only competitor and the track and the declared winner. Congratulations Stone on your very first win!

The Hobby Stock field of 15 drivers  saw a lot of caution flags for flats. Kevin Collins, who has won four times this season, had moved into the lead on laps 9-11 and then fell victim to one of those flats and had to move to the back of the field. On the restart, Darren Fox of Mtn. Grove jumped out front and never gave up the lead. He not only won the trophy and the winners check, but also sits atop the points leaderboard, one point ahead of Corey Lambert of West Plains. Clyde Shearin Jr. finished 2nd and Chance Cotter finished in 3rd. Richard Carson #29 came across the line in 4th but was disqualified at the post-race tech examination, moving Kevin Collins into 4th place.  That also moved Kevin into 3rd in the points race.

In the Super Stock division Donnie Miller #26M established himself as the early leader, leading from laps 2-20 in the feature.  In a race filled with lots of cautions, he was able to hold off every challenge from the field. He sits atop the points race for the season as well, with feature win number four in the books.  Chris Piper and Bobby Skinner finished 2nd and 3rd.

In the Late Model feature it was Kanyan Methvin #41 coming away with the win. He jumped out front early and kept the lead throughout the race. Kaleb Stolba, who is the current points leader, finished in 2nd despite being involved in a crash early in the race and having to restart at the back of the field.  Bobby Skinner, who took 2nd in Super Stock finished 3rd in Late Model, so it was a good night for Skinner.

In the USRA B Mod feature race it was Carl Murphy #2M driving to victory lane. With that win Murphy also maintains his spot atop the points race for the season.  Jason Snodgrass of Mtn. Home and Gene Sisco of Alton finished 2nd and 3rd.

And finally, in the IMCA Modified race it was Shawn Walsh #73 taking the checkered flag. Brandon Walsh of Mammoth Spring finished in 2nd place and Daryl Hay, with his 3rd place finish stays atop the points race for the season.

September 5th racing action will be another weekly points race at Legit Speedway. The gates will open at 5PM with hot laps at 6:30 and races starting at 7. You can learn more about the speedway, it fans, its sponsors and the drivers by going to www.legitspeedway.com or on facebook.
