2200 fans on hand at Legit Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Over 2200 race fans braved the sweltering heat Saturday night at Legit Speedway for the third free grandstand event of the season. Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply of Thayer and West Plains sponsored this event.

There were only 2 Bone Stock entries, not enough for their own feature, so the two teenagers were forced to race among the faster, more experienced Hobby Stock field. Ethan Rushin of Poplar Bluff was involved in a crash in his heat race, putting him out of the competition for the night, leaving 13-year-old Dackota Huskey the only car to start the feature.

Fans saw a field of 16 Hobby Stock drivers take the track.  In the Heat Races, James Brown, the teen from Mammoth Spring Arkansas hit the wall hard coming out of turn 4 and received extensive damage to his car, rendering him unable to show for the feature. At the finish it was #2 Kevin Collins of West Plains, Mo taking the checkered flag and making his 2nd trip to victory lane this month and this season. Collins commented “This is a track’, pointing to the red clay surface that got slick early, stating “he liked the slick surface”.

Another #2, Carl Murphy of Caulfield, MO was the winner in the USRA B MOD feature. Murphy, also making his 2nd appearance on Victory Lane this season, had the fastest car on the track in the Heat Race and the Feature, as he never saw a spoiler in front of him all night long.

In the Super Stock division fans got to see quite a show as #L18 Landon Clinton from Willow Springs, battled it out for 20 laps with #26 Donnie Miller and #13P Chris Piper of West Plains. In some fantastic side-by-side racing action it came down to the final turn on the final lap as Landon Clinton pulled ahead to claim his 2nd victory of the season.

In the IMCA Modified division, it was #27b Matt Barry of West Plains jumping out early and leading in a wire-to-wire win, and his first trip to Victory Lane on the season. Barry was excited and appreciative to be in the winner’s circle for only the second time in his career and the first time since 2010.

The Late Model race started with heartache and a broken wrist for Kenny Barker of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Barker, who had led the points race all season long until being passed by Kaleb Stolba last week, was excited to have a new 760 horsepower engine to replace the Crate 602 he had been running in his car all season. He performed reasonably well in the Heat Race but in the feature he slammed hard into the wall in turn one at the start,  the steering wheel snapping his wrist. When the race continued, it was #33K Kaleb Stolba from Willow Springs taking the checkered flag for his first victory of the season. Kaleb pulled way out in front of a limited field of 5, finishing nearly 5 seconds ahead of the field. It was a great birthday present for the young man from Willow Springs, who turned 19 on Sunday.

Racing was delayed for a short period of time as emergency personnel were called upon to treat a victim of an apparent cardiac event, transporting them to the local medical center. Racing resumed after a short delay while replacement medical personnel were dispatched to the track.

It was a great night of racing entertainment for the fans, who were also treated to an early night, with races ending at around 10:30 pm. Next Saturday will be another weekly points race, with gates opening at 5, hot laps at 6:30 and races at 7.  As always, you can check out the latest news , videos and results at www.legitspeedway.com or on facebook at www.facebook.com/LegitSpeedwayPark.
