13 year old Dakota Huskey from St. James Mo drives in his first race and brings home the trophy

A crowd of over 700 came out Saturday night at Legit Speedway to watch the weekly points race sponsored by Cockrum Auto Sales and Glenn’s Truck Repair.  13 year old Dackota Huskey from St. James, Mo made the trip to West Plains in his compact Bone Stock car to compete in his first ever race. The owners let the two Bone Stock entries, the other driven by Ethan Rushin of Poplar Bluff, run their own feature at the back of the Hobby Stock main event. In the end, it was first-timer Dackota Huskey coming away with the win. When asked what it was like to have all those Hobby Stock cars passing him on both sides, Dackota said, “It was scary. But after I got used to it I was fine.” Congratulations to Dackota!

Hobby Stock Winner Darren Fox from Mtn. Grove, MO

A field of 14 Hobby Stock drivers put on a show for the fans.  #99 Becky Alford, the young lady from Poplar Bluff, MO was on the pole for the feature but was unable to hold that spot as #88 Darren Fox from Mtn. Grove jumped out to an early lead which he never relinquished. Fox was followed across the finish line by #2 Kevin Collins of West Plains in second, but was disqualified in tech for not being able to pull a vacuum. So,  Becky Alford finished in 2nd and Donny Herring of Hardy Arkansas finished 3rd . Corey Lambert of West Plains was able to hang on to the points lead with his 4th place finish.

Mark Norris of Searcy Arkansas wins the IMCA Modified Feature

Mark Norris (#32N) of Searcy Arkansas made his 3rd appearance this season in victory lane as he raced his way from a 3rd row starting position to finally take over the lead in lap 13 and led for the rest of the race.. Norris had raced the night before at another venue and got piled up and had to put his car on the jig to get it race ready for Saturday,  but his team had the car set up and running perfectly. Stephen Muilenburg of Sparta Missouri lost his wife to cancer and her funeral was on Saturday. She had requested that Stephen please race, and so he competed in IMCA and USRA B Mod.  He finished second in the IMCA Modified division. Our prayers are with Stephen and his family during their loss. It was “2SLY” Shane Kelley from Jonesboro Arkansas finishing 3rd. With a 4th place finish, Daryl Hay (#D97) maintains his lead in the points standings.

USRA B Mod winner Rustin Miller of Houson, MO.

Rustin Miller of Houston Missouri returns to Victory Lane for the 2nd time this year at Legit. Miller ran a 16.505 on the 3/8 mile track on lap 20 to win.   2nd place went to Carl Murphy of Caulfield, Mo and 3rd to Jeff Scroggins of Brookline, MO.  That 2nd place finish keeps Murphy at the top of the points standings for a couple of more weeks.

Jeremy Russell Takes the checkered flag in the Super Stock Feature

Jeremy Russell was another wire-to-wire winner on Saturday as he jumped out front on the green flag and never saw a spoiler all night. Russell had his car running great as he drove his way to his first win this season at Legit Speedway. Chuck Adams of West Plains finished 2nd and Donnie Miller of West Plains finished 3rd. That 3rd place finish scored Miller enough points to stay atop the field in the weekly points race.

Brad Looney of Republic returns to Victory Lane in the Late Model Division

Brad Looney of Republic jumped out front on the green and never looked back as he was yet another start-to-finish leader on Saturday night to claim his 2nd trophy of the season at Legit. The race for 2nd place found the 18 year old from Willow Springs, Kaleb Stolba,  beating out Joey Smith of Pomona in a great race between the two. That puts Stolba in 1st place in the points standings, moving 5 points ahead of season-long leader Kenny Barker from Doniphan. Smith was back on the track after a few weeks of hard breaks, getting a lot of body damage one week putting him off the track , and then having engine trouble last week. Smith had his car running well. It will be fun to watch  him a Stolba battle it out this season. Stolba is the son of track owners Gary and Dee Dee Stolba.

The “Legitigator” has been absent from the track for a few weeks getting outfitted with some additional features. The T-Shirt cannon is back in operation and smoke and maybe even some pyro-technics will be added. It will be back in action at the next weekly points race July 25th. There will not be any races at Legit Speedway on Saturday July 18th as the Heart of the Ozarks Fair is in session. Racing will resume July 25th with another Free Grandstand night in the weekly points race sponsored by Hirsch Feed & Farm Supply of West Plains. Gates will open at 4. Hot laps at 6:30.  Races at 7.
