Bobby Labonte Racing Gains Top-15 at LaSalle Speedway

TRINITY, NC (May 14, 2013) - Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) left last Thursday for LaSalle Speedway hoping to race Friday and Saturday night. However, Mother Nature seems to have more wins on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this season, as Friday nights $10,000 to win race was called due to rain. LaSalle Speedway was ready for the 38 cars on hand for Saturday night's race, though, including the No. 44 Lucas Oil Longhorn Chassis driven by Earl Pearson Jr.

Pearson Jr. and the BLR team started sixth in Heat 2; they were able to finish fourth and transfer to the feature race. Pearson Jr. started his No. 44 Lucas Oil Longhorn in 15th position. However, due to all the rain, the track was tough to race on. Pearson Jr. was able to pass a few cars and finish in 12th.

"We didn't qualify as good as we needed to; starting 15th in the feature put us behind." said Pearson Jr. "The track only had one grove on the bottom; it was hard to pass. We had a great car tonight, just needed a better qualifying run."

Earl Pearson Jr. now sits fourth in points, only 150 points behind the leader. BLR will be on the road for three weeks as they head to Batesville Motor Speedway for a weekend full of racing action culminating with the 98 lap $20,000 to win Saturday night.

Jake Griffin Enjoys Successful Weekend on Dirt and Pavement

Quincy, Illinois (05/14/13) – 14-year-old Jake Griffin had a busy weekend on dirt and pavement, and by the time the action was complete he had won a pair of heat races and recorded back-to-back top five finishes in feature action.

On Saturday evening Jake Griffin made the trip to Lebanon I-44 Speedway (Lebanon, Missouri) to not only take some practice laps on the asphalt oval in his Pro Late Model for the upcoming Masters of the Pro's 144 event, which will be sanctioned by the JEGS/CRA All Star tour, but also to compete in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Pro Late Model weekly program. A talented field of twenty-one entries were on hand for the program, and Griffin started the night by winning his heat race. In the redraw for the feature he received the tenth starting spot. He would go on to advance five spots to record a fifth place finish behind race winner, Matt Wallace, JC Newell, Cole Williams, and Grant Sharp. Full results from the event are available at www.i44Speedway.net .

Jake returned to familiar territory on Sunday night as he took part in a Weekly Racing Series Event at his home track, Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois). With seventeen entries registered for battle it would prove to be Griffin's best outing of the year so far in the UMP Open Wheel Modified class. Jake started his night by blasting from the sixth starting spot to win his heat race, which locked him into the seventh starting spot for the main event. Just like in his heat race Griffin quickly worked his way through the field in the feature as he raced to a second place finish behind race winner, Steven DeLonjay. Full results from the event are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com .

"After what has been a frustrating start to the year for us this weekend was just what we needed," noted Griffin. "I'm excited to get back to Lebanon this weekend for the big event because we really learned a lot last weekend and turned some fast laps!"

Jake Griffin Racing will start the upcoming weekend on Saturday, May 18th at Lebanon I-44 Speedway with the Master of the Pro's 144, which will pay $8,000-to-win for the JEGS/CRA All Star competitors. It's the richest Pro Late Model event of the year in the country. Sunday evening will find the team back at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) for a Weekly Racing Series Event in his #08 UMP Open Wheel Modified. Eyecon Trail Cameras Car Puts Together Two More Podiums for Big Game Motorsports

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 14, 2013) - Craig Dollansky nearly gave Big Game Motorsports two more feature victories by parking his Eyecon Trail Cameras car in Victory Lane over the weekend.

Dollansky led feature laps and earned a podium in each of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., on Friday and at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. Meanwhile, Big Game Treestands teammate Sammy Swindell faced misfortune while competing in the top 10 in each of the main events.

The Eyecon Trail Cameras Maxim opened the weekend at the FVP Outlaws at Elko by qualifying 12th quickest, putting him on the front row of a heat race after the inversion. Dollansky finished second to garner a spot in the dash. When the six was pulled in the dash inversion, Dollansky earned the pole.
Racing approximately an hour south of his home in Elk River, Minn., Dollansky led the first 14 laps before a mechanical issue hampered him for the remainder of the rain-shortened 34-lap main event.

Kerry Madsen got around the Eyecon Trail Cameras for the lead on Lap 15 and Tim Kaeding - the eventual winner - passed Dollansky for second place on Lap 32. After Kaeding had just completed a pass on Madsen for the lead, a red flag was waved for a car flipping over and rain washed out the remaining six laps.

"With the mechanical issue we developed I was thinking we needed to get out of there with a decent finish," Dollansky said. "As much as we would have liked to get the win, at that point it was just get a decent finish."

For Swindell, he qualified third quickest in the Big Game Treestands car. He then finished fourth in his heat race to advance to the feature, but narrowly missed a spot in the dash. Swindell started the main event 11th, but a flat right rear tire dropped him to a 14th-place finish.

On Saturday, the famed Knoxville Raceway presented its first of two World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series tests before the FVP Knoxville Nationals in August.

Of the 51 entries at the Mediacom Shootout, Swindell qualified quickest for the first time this season and Dollansky timed in fifth quickest. The Big Game Treestands teammates started in the second row of their heat race and advanced to the dash, which was inverted by six.

That started the Eyecon Trail Cameras car third and Swindell sixth in the short race that lined up the first six rows of the feature. They placed fourth and sixth, respectively.

Dollansky powered into the lead on Lap 9 to lead feature laps for the fourth time in the last five World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events. However, heavy traffic came into play in the second half of the 25-lap feature and the Eyecon Trail Cameras car got trapped behind a couple of slower cars, giving the advantage eventual winner Donny Schatz needed to find the lead on Lap 18.

"I felt like we were getting through lapped traffic pretty good," Dollansky said. "We came up on a couple of cars and I got myself blocked in and that allowed Schatz to get around us. The caution flew right after that and at that point he was in the lead."

Swindell was also in contention in the top 10 until a wild restart with seven laps remaining, when a handful of cars collided on the frontstretch. Swindell's nose wing, top wing, left rear tire and various other parts were damaged in the collision, forcing him to the back on the restart.

"We kind of went the wrong direction with the car," Swindell said of the initial setup. "I thought the track was going to get slicker than it did and it actually went the other way, which it usually doesn't happen at Knoxville.

"The next thing I knew Lucas Wolfe had run over my left rear (tire). It was kinda unfortunate, but there was a lot of positives that we got out of that. The new motor that we got was really strong and some of the changes that we made with the car and setup were quite a bit better. It's just that we went a little too far in the wrong direction."

Swindell, who is now sixth in the championship standings, finished 18th to record his 21st top 20 of the season. Dollansky finished second in the feature to earn his fourth podium in the last five races. He ranks fifth in the points.

The Big Game Treestands teammates will compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series as it invades Pennsylvania this week. On Wednesday, Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown hosts the Gettysburg Clash before Williams Grove Speedway has a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday for the Morgan Cup.

Dover Frustrated After Weight Rule Mishap at Loren Barstad Memorial

Inside Line Promotions - HARTFORD, S.D. (May 14, 2013) - There aren't many words that describe Jack Dover's frustration after his third victory in five races this season was stripped away.

After dominating his heat race and the feature at the 3rd annual Loren Barstad Memorial at I-90 Speedway on Saturday, Dover was told he didn't make weight at the scales and was disqualified.

"I was the first one to the scales and it showed up 1,490 (pounds) so in my mind I think I'm good because I'm used to 1,475," he said. "Pretty much everywhere else I've raced they have the same weight rule. There is nowhere else in this country I'm pretty sure that has a 1,550 weight rule."

For that race, the weight rule was 1,550 - used widely as the weight for 305ci sprints. Dover said the weight rule was never discussed in the prerace drivers meeting and that Gregg Bakker, the runner-up, was also disqualified for being under weight. Lee Grosz, who finished third, was credited with the win.

"That is why we like to run with sanctioning bodies," Dover said. "For one, they run it professionally. They tell you all the rules and what you need. I guess you'd say it's more organized."

After charging from fourth to first in the opening lap of his heat race, which he won handily, Dover advanced as one of the top eight cars in the redraw. The random draw pulled the No. 27, which was the third lowest, to give him a starting position on the inside of the second row for the main event.

"We took the lead on the first lap," Dover said. "Going into turn one if I remember right I think I split them."

And then everything began to slow down. In fact, the first two laps took approximately 20 minutes and the feature lasted nearly an hour.

"Once again I was running out of fuel," Dover said. "There was a yellow with four laps to go and I was chugging on that. I was praying I would finish the race and I don't think I could have made another lap."

Dover led the entire race before the weight mishap.

He will compete on Friday at the 2nd annual US 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys at US 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Last season, Dover won an ASCS Midwest Region event at the track, charged from 10th to finish third in another event and placed 12th at the US 36 Nationals.
He will conclude the weekend on Saturday with the Nebraska 360 Sprints at Butler County Speedway in Rising City, Neb., where he drove from 10th to win on April 27.

Mark Burch Motorsports Faces a Couple of Mechanical Bugs in 410 Debut

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 14, 2013) - After racing with a 410ci engine for the first time in 12 years, Mark Burch Motorsports found a couple of the bugs in the system last weekend.

The team made its season debut with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at the FVP Outlaws at Elko on Friday at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., where Danny Lasoski qualified just inside the inversion number to earn a spot on the pole of his heat race.

Lasoski led the distance to pick up the win and advance to the dash, where he maneuvered from ninth to eighth on the narrow track. Unfortunately for Mark Burch Motorsports, a mechanical issue struck early in the feature as Lasoski was battling inside the top 10.

"The throttle was hanging wide open," Lasoski said. "I was basically operating the throttle with the kill switch. It's awfully hard to drive and operate the kill switch at the same time. Whenever I couldn't do that I had to work with brakes."

That burned up the brakes and around the midpoint of the main event, Lasoski was forced to pull into the pits without any brakes. He finished 22 nd.

"We were happy we were able to race because any time I can race with Mark Burch it's a pleasure," Lasoski said. "We've got a lot of work to do because we want to win races."

The team headed to Knoxville Raceway for the Mediacom Shootout on Saturday, when Lasoski qualified 14th quickest of the 51 competitors. He finished third in his heat race to advance to the feature, but the team missed the dash by one spot.

Lasoski started the main event 18th, but quickly realized there was an issue with the steering.
"We'd been struggling all night long with the steering," he said. "It would dart really bad. In the A Main I was holding my hands still and the car would turn six feet left or six feet right."

After a handful of laps, Lasoski pulled into the pits with a 28th-place finish.

"We were fighting steering issues all night," Burch said. "We kept changing stuff and changing stuff to try to sort it out, but we could never get it straightened out. The car just had a mind of its own. It was pretty evil.
"There's a lot of people who ended up in a worse position than we are. It's disappointing to have mechanical troubles. That's why we needed to race. We need to get that stuff sorted out. It just happened to be we chose two World of Outlaws races to make our first two events. But if you're gonna be the best, you've got to beat the best."

Mark Burch Motorsports will take this weekend off before returning to the track on Wednesday, May 22, at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
