Kulhanek Posts Two Top 10s with ASCS Gulf South at Jackson Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - BYRAM, Miss. (April 11, 2016) - Ray Allen Kulhanek captured a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend at Jackson Motor Speedway, where the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints co-sanctioned the doubleheader.

"We made it through the weekend without killing a car and we passed a few cars so I can't really complain," he said. "It wasn't near the finishes I wanted or expected, but we moved forward every time we hit the track. I wasn't super comfortable on the race track. I drove both nights like the days I was running modifieds. I drove it straight and made sure I was in a good position to shoot off the corners."

The action began last Friday with Kulhanek surviving and rallying from last to finish fourth in a heat race. That locked him into the 14th starting position for the main event.

"We drew the biggest number in the bucket to start the night," he said. "We took the green flag and the guys on the front row went to beating and banging. Once they started piling up it was too late. I couldn't avoid it and got a little involved. However, we got to finish the heat race and made the main.

"I had a good car in the feature. I dropped a couple of spots on the start, but got into a good rhythm running on the bottom. I had a lot of forward bite coming off the corners. It was really coming in at the later part of the race. When we went across to take the checkers third, fourth, fifth and myself were right there. I had a good shot at getting in the top three. We just ran out of laps."

Kulhanek maneuvered from 14th to post a sixth-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday when Kulhanek drove from third to win a heat race and lock himself into the feature redraw. However, he pulled the highest number - eight - to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

"I really couldn't go anywhere," he said. "I fell back on the initial start to 11th or 12th and I worked my way back up. I wasn't a big fan of the track. It seemed like it was the Dustbowl 500. It was really hard to pass. For what kind of cushion was there it was really fine dirt that built up on the wall. They were killing right rear wheels and tires by getting up in the wall. I stayed down on the tires and picked off what I could. We were decent, but we definitely weren't great."

Kulhanek ended with a seventh-place finish. That ranks him third in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings - only eight points from the lead.

He will take this weekend off before racing April 22-23 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Rilat Scores Top 10s at Jackson Motor Speedway with ASCS Gulf South

Inside Line Promotions - BYRAM, Miss. (April 11, 2016) - Travis Rilat pocketed a pair of top 10s last weekend at Jackson Motor Speedway, which hosted an ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaws Sprints Region doubleheader.

The competition began on Friday with Rilat winning his heat race after starting on the pole. That ranked him ninth in overall points, which was only one spot out of making the feature redraw.

"We struggled on Friday and didn't get the car very good at all," he said. "We were lucky to salvage a top 10. The track was slick and right around the bottom both nights. They just needed to make one more pass at the top of the race track to make it racy. They needed to touch it with a little water after the heats and it would have been good."

Rilat battled inside the top 10 throughout the main event before finishing ninth.

Similar results were showcased on Saturday as Rilat won a heat race from the inside of the second row. That was enough to earn a spot in the feature redraw, where Rilat pulled the second-highest number - seven - during the random draw to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

"On Saturday we were a little better, but there wasn't a lot of track to race on," he said. "Me and (Aaron) Reutzel ran the top the whole time. With everyone running the bottom it made the top dirty. It we would have had more cars running the top it would have cleaned it off and made it better."

Rilat scored a sixth-place result to give him seven top 10s this season.

"Any time you can roll it into the trailer without tearing anything up that's a good weekend," he said. "If you consistently run toward the front the wins will come."

Rilat, who ranks fifth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings - only 22 points out of the lead - will take this weekend off before returning to competition April 22-23 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Bergman Records Win at Creek County for Fourth Year Since 2011

Inside Line Promotions - SAPULPA, Okla. (April 11, 2016) - Seth Bergman put together a strong performance last Friday at Creek County Speedway, where he captured his third victory of the season.

Bergman led all 25 laps of the ASCS Red River Region event at the quarter-mile oval, where he last won in 2013 and has recorded a triumph during four of the last six years.

"It's been a little frustrating lately because every night this year I've felt we had a shot to win, but the last month I have no results to show," he said. "Last weekend we were finally able to win. When you set goals like I do these are stepping stones on the way to that. I'm not in this for the little things. I'm in sprint car racing for the big accomplishments."

Bergman kicked off the night by winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row.

"I knew that I needed to win to get in the redraw to give myself a good shot at winning the feature," he said. "It's important to capitalize on good draws. At Creek County the further forward you can start the better."

Bergman then pulled the No. 2 in the random redraw, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for the feature.

"The main event played out how I pictured it in my mind," he said. "I knew it'd be tough with Bryan Clauson (on the pole). With the way the track was shaping up and how short 25 laps goes by there it was important to get the start and lead off the bat.

"We had three or four starts because people kept crashing. When we finally got one in we were side by side all around the race track before I passed him on the high side coming out of turn four. We got to traffic and he was closing in, but I didn't ever see his nose wing. For the lapped traffic I did deal with I was able to make quick work of them so it worked out well."

Bergman's win propels him into races this weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region.
