Austin Kirkpatrick Pockets Pair of Podiums; North Florida Next

Ocala, Florida (03/08/16) – After almost a month away from the driver’s seat of the Big Frog Motorsports #58 Dave’s Towing/Rocket XR1 Late Model, Austin Kirkpatrick returned to action over the weekend. By the time that the action was done he had pocketed a pair of runner-up finishes.

Austin Kirkpatrick made the trip to All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Florida) on Friday night for the $3,000-to-win, unsanctioned event. In a field of 21 Super Late Models, Kirkpatrick earned the 7th-starting spot for the main event after placing 3rd in his heat. Working his way through the field four positions in the 35-lap affair, Austin notched a 3rd place finish behind race winner, Kyle Bronson, and Dillon Wood with Scott Gray and Richard Ferry rounding out the top five.

The following night Kirkpatrick headed to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) for another unsanctioned program. Coming from the tail in his heat race, Austin scored 2nd place finish, transferring him into the A-Main with the 3rd-starting position. Competing for a $2,000 payday, Austin Kirkpatrick fell back to 4th at one point in the 40-lap A-Main, but battled late in the race to a runner-up finish behind the victor, Kyle Bronson.

“We are steadily getting better and better in this new Rocket XR1,” commented Kirkpatrick. “Both nights we dug ourselves a bit of a hole early on, and as tough as this competition is you just can’t give an inch because it’s hard to get it back. We’re definitely getting there though, and I couldn’t be more excited to be driving for Big Frog Motorsports.”

Austin Theiss Enjoys Strong Texas Weekend

Hockley, Texas (03/08/16) – Texas racer, Austin Theiss enjoyed a great weekend behind the wheel of his Northside Plumbing Supply #7D MB Customs/Mullins Racing Engine Super Late Model, where he registered a pair of podium finishes.

Austin Theiss took his #7D MB Customs Super Late Model into battle on Friday night at Heart O’ Texas Speedway (Elm Mott, Texas) for the unsanctioned event. Earning a front row starting spot for his heat, Theiss jumped into the lead, capturing a heat race victory. Coming from 7th in the feature, Austin notched a 3rd-place finish behind race winner, Robbie Starnes and Max Thomas with Sloppy Hogg and Kyle Whitworth rounding out the top five.

Making the trip two hours south, Theiss traveled to Cotton Bowl Speedway (Paige, Texas) on Saturday night, where he hoped to top his 3rd-place outing from the previous night. Drawing 15 Super Late Models for the South Texas Late Model Series (STLMS) event, Austin improved one spot in his heat, scoring a runner-up finish behind Robbie Starnes. At the drop of the green flag in the finale Theiss jumped from his 4th-starting spot to the lead. He would pace the field until the white flag lap, when veteran racer, Robbie Starnes slipped past for the win. Theiss finished 2nd with Brandon Brzozowksi, Sloppy Hogg, and Nate Jantz rounding out the top five.

“Man it stings to know that on Saturday night I led every lap, except the one that really counts,” commented Theiss. “However, if I’m going to lose one like that at least it’s too a legend like Robbie (Starnes). The good news is that this car just keeps better and better every time out, and I’m really excited about this season.”

Full results from these events are available at www.HeartOTexSpeedway.com and www.CottonBowlSpeedway.com .

Theiss is currently unsure of when his next event will be, but he will tentatively enter the 6th Annual Pelican 100 at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) on March 18-19. Sides Extends Top-10 Streak in Las Vegas with Sixth-Place Result

Inside Line Promotions - QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (March 8, 2016) - Jason Sides continued his streak of capturing a top-10 finish in Las Vegas last weekend during the FVP Outlaw Showdown.

Sides kicked off the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader last Thursday by posting a sixth-place result, which gives him at least one top 10 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas each of the last eight years.

The competition began with Sides qualifying 24th quickest before he placed fourth in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

"It wasn't bad the first night coming up through there," he said. "We could hold the bottom better to get around. The car was really good for the race track. We were just one spot shy of a top five."

Sides rallied from 14th to score the sixth-place result.

He returned to the half-mile oval the ensuing night and timed in 13th quickest during qualifying before placing fifth in a heat race. Sides then picked up a position in the main event to finish 16th.

"The race track was a little more narrow on the bottom and harder to hit on Friday," he said. "We tried to soften the right rear and it was too much. It bucked around too much. Vegas wasn't what we planned. We were looking for better results."

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Arizona Speedway, where Sides made his debut during the NAPA Desert Shootout by qualifying 16th quickest.

"We drew the No. 3 pill and it was looking really good to go out that early because the track was bone dry," he said. "Then they got it really wet before qualifying. It just kept getting faster and faster."

Sides ended fifth in a heat race to start the main event on the inside of the seventh row.

"The track was one of the widest we go to," he said. "It must have been 60 feet wide. It got pretty slick with a little grip on the bottom. It seemed like we were making some headway early. Once we got going one or two guys got by us. About Lap 20 it started rubbering down and it got really sticky the last 10 laps."

Sides battled for a top 10 throughout the main event before finishing 11th.

He is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.

Hagar Picks Up Podium Finishes at Hattiesburg and Deep South

Inside Line Promotions - LOXLEY, Ala. (March 8, 2016) - Derek Hagar posted a pair of podium finishes last weekend with the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints.

"It was a good weekend all in all," he said. "We had two podiums and moved forward in every race so you can't be upset with that."

The action began last Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where Hagar maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw.

"I put myself behind the eight ball on Friday," he said. "I was third in points (following the heat races) and pulled the eight."

Hagar got the highest number during the random redraw to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

"I got up close to the leaders, but in 25 laps you only have so much time," he said. "The laps clicked off pretty quick. It was a good, solid night though."

Hagar ended with a third-place finish.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Deep South Speedway, where Hagar powered from seventh to second place in a heat race. That ranked him second in points following the heat races and earned a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

"I got to second on the first lap and just maintained from there," he said. "Once you got going it was follow the leader. On a couple of restarts I dove underneath the leader, but it's a momentum track and he had the momentum to power by me."

Hagar's second-place result marked his third consecutive podium finish.

Rilat Tackling ASCS Gulf South Doubleheader in Texas This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - FORNEY, Texas (March 8, 2016) - Travis Rilat has a stellar record at the two Texas tracks where he is slated to compete this weekend.

Rilat will race on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands during the season-opening weekend for the ASCS Gulf South Region.

"We get around both tracks very well so that's always a boost of confidence when you roll into the pits at each place," he said. "The ASCS Gulf South has a good payout and points fund this year so we'll try to tackle as many shows with them as possible."

Rilat has picked up a pair of podium finishes at Golden Triangle Raceway Park each of the last two years, including his most recent victory in 2014.

"There'd be no greater way to start the opening ASCS Gulf South weekend than with a win or two," he said. "We know we can win at both tracks because we have in the past so hopefully we will land on the podium once or twice this weekend."

Rilat's three-year winning streak at Battleground Speedway was halted last year. However, he recorded two podiums during three races at the track for the second straight season.

Rilat has earned a top-10 finish during all four of his 360ci races this season.

Hanks Records Hard Charger Awards during ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - LOXLEY, Ala. (March 8, 2016) - Brandon Hanks has had a lot of cleaning to do this week after he recorded the Hard Charger Award at both ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints races last weekend.

Hanks put in a lot of time cleaning the race car following hard work during his debut at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Friday and at Deep South Speedway on Saturday.

"The white body on the car is still not white," he quipped. "I can't think of another track (like Deep South Speedway) that got better like that as the night went on. It was gumbo and that red clay and sand mix. I pressure washed that car for three and a half hours."

Hanks kicked off the dirty weekend on Friday when he finished fifth in a heat race. That relegated him to the B Main, which he won to lock into the 17 th starting position for the main event.

"The only place you could pass was in turn two," he said. "You had to be right on the bottom to get enough momentum to pass going into turn three. We had a great car."

Hanks powered from 17th to score an eighth-place finish.

He wrapped the weekend up on Saturday at Deep South Speedway.

"We had a really solid car," he said. "I was a little bit tighter than I wanted in the heat and Derek Hagar was able to pass me late in the race."

Hanks ended third in the heat to lock himself into the 12th starting position for the main event.

"We were really, really good," he said. "We passed most of the cars on the start and restarts. It was really hard to pass. Clean air was your friend. When you'd gain ground on the guy in front you'd start getting tight."

Hanks rallied to garner a fifth-place finish, which marked his first top five of the season.

"I'm happy with our top five," he said. "We're getting better every week. We've found something I'm really comfortable with and what we're doing is starting to work."

Hanks is scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., for the Sooner State Showdown with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. He earned a pair of third-place finishes at the track last season.
