Chase Junghans Set to Compete in Grant Junghans Memorial

Manhattan, Kansas (08/18/16) – Any race for Chase Junghans is an important one, but on Friday night he will compete in an event that will carry more weight than any race he has ever entered.

The talented, young pilot is set to return to Modified competition as he enters the inaugural Grant Junghans Memorial at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas). The event marks the richest, one-day purse in the history of Modified racing. However, for Chase the event represents so much more.

“This is the race that my brother wanted to be held in his memory,” Chase remembers. “He told us that he would rather us not do anything big in his memory, but that he also knew that we would definitely be doing something. So this race, at this track is what he wanted. Words can’t describe what this event will mean to me and my family.”

Grant Junghans passed away earlier this year after a battle with a very rare form of cancer. He was only 26-years-old. While his time on earth may have been far too short, there was definitely no shortage of people, whom he impacted.

“It’s just been overwhelming to see how many people have got behind us and this race,” says Junghans. “I mean this deal has a purse of over $100,000 and a big part of that has been sponsored to us. It just really means a lot to me and my whole family.”

While Junghans has been away from Modifieds over the past few years as he’s set his sights on making a career in the Super Late Model ranks, he’s eager to return to the driver’s seat this Friday night.

“There’s like 90 guys already entered into this race, so I know it’s going to be a heck of a challenge just to make the feature,” Junghans says with a smile. “I’m sure I’ll be a little rusty, but I think I’ll pick things back up pretty quick.”

Joining Junghans in a #2 Shop Quik Racing Modified entry for the event will be defending World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series Champion, Shane Clanton.

“It’s pretty cool that Shane will be making his Modified debut at this deal,” commented Junghans. “That guy is a wheelman, so I’m sure he’ll pick up on it pretty quick.”

Junghans has been looking forward to this event since it was announced a few months ago. His focus and preparation for the event, actually led to him skipping last week’s WoO events on the East Coast.

“I really hated to miss that swing, but there was so much that still needed to be done to get ready for this race,” said Junghans. “We also had just blown the generator up on the hauler at Cedar Lake, and there was a lot that needed to be done around the house. Honestly, it all made my choice pretty simple on what I needed to do. I’m definitely not done with the touring stuff, but right it was more important for me to be at home.”

Friday night’s event at Lakeside Speedway will be a part of the Hunt for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Championship. The 30-car, finale includes a $10,002-to-win/$1,102-to-start finale. For more information on the event, please visit www.USMTS.com .

Junghans concludes by again expressing his utmost gratitude to everyone that is supporting this event.

“It’s been really tough for me and my family since Grant passed away because we loved him so much. However, what’s really helped us is the support from the racing community. To know that he was loved and respected by so many people has been something really uplifting for our family. Now we also have this event that will be an awesome celebration of his life. I think he’s looking down on us from heaven and pretty damn proud of this party we are throwing for him.”
