Chase Junghans Takes First World of Outlaws Feature

Manhattan, Kansas (06/30/15) –Chase Junghans made history on Friday night during the second round of the 9th Annual Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway by powering his #18 Shop Quik Racing/Capital/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first-career, World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) victory.

“This is just unbelievable,” commented Junghans in victory lane. “My crew guy was telling me that I was driving away from them, and it almost seemed too good to be true. This win goes out to my family, sponsors, crew, and fans, who give me so much support.”

On Tuesday night Chase Junghans resumed action with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) as it returned to the great state of New York for the Great Northern Tour. With thirty-one Super Late Models entered at Weedsport Speedway (Weedsport, New York), Junghans landed another top five finish in the Finger Lakes 40 feature event. Following a 3rd place finish in his heat, Chase battled his way from the 7th starting position to record a 4th place finish behind Shane Clanton, Tim McCreadie, Darrell Lanigan with Morgan Bagley coming in fifth. 

To kick off the three-day 9th Annual Firecracker 100 with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Chase Junghans made the trip to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pennsylvania) on Thursday night. In a field of forty-four Super Late Models competing for the $6,000 payday, Junghans laid down the second fastest qualifying time in his group. After battling with Chub Frank for the lead for much of his 10-lap heat race, Chase fell back in the pack on a late-race restart. A 7th place finish sent him into the B-Main. With a 3rd place outing in his B-Main, Chase Junghans earned a spot in the finale, where he charged from his 21st starting spot to retire 9th place finish. 

For the second night of the Firecracker 100, Chase laid down the fastest time in a field of forty-five Super Late Models. Following a 2nd place finish in his heat race behind Shane Clanton, Junghans went on to win his first World of Outlaws victory. After earning the pole position in the redraw, Junghans never let go of the top spot, capturing a $6,000 payday with Scott Bloomquist, Shane Clanton, Chub Frank, and Davey Johnson completing the top five. The triumph was the first of his career in WoOLMS competition. The victory marked his second on the year.

Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win, finale at Lernerville Speedway fell victim to rain and was postponed to September 5th.

Junghans will likely take the upcoming week off before resuming action with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) in the opener for the Wild West Tour at Hibbing Raceway (Hibbing, Minnesota) on Thursday, July 9th. For more information on the event, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .

Mark Whitener Tops BRP Action; Busy Holiday Weekend on Tap

Middleburg, Florida (06/30/15) – Mark Whitener piloted the Big Frog Motorsports #58 Barry Wright Late Model to his fourth victory of the season on Friday evening with a triumph at Bubba Raceway Park.

On Friday night the Big Frog Motorsports team traveled to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) with Mark Whitener behind the wheel of the #58 Dave's Towing/B&B Produce Super Late Model. It proved to be a great night for the team as Whitener notched his fourth victory of the 2015 season. After landing a heat race victory, Mark held on to his pole position starting spot for the duration of the feature affair with Nevin Gainey, Tyler Clem, Scott Gray, and Shan Smith rounding out the top five finishers.

The following night brought Whitener to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) to compete in another night of Late Model racing action. With thirteen entries signed in for the night’s program, Mark captured a heat race win, transferring him into the feature event. Starting in 4th in the finale, Mark Whitener advanced two spots to record a runner-up spot behind Kyle Van Sickle with Tyler Clem, Ivedent Lloyd Jr., and Bobby Richardson completing the top five.

Dale McDowell Romps to Rome $3,000 Payday; Summer Nationals Action Next

Welcome, North Carolina (06/30/15) – Dale McDowell parked his Team Dillon Racing #17m Warrior/ECR Racing Engine Super Late Model in victory lane for the first time in 2015 on Sunday evening with a convincing victory at Rome Speedway.

After seeing his original plans to compete at the annual Firecracker 100 in Pennsylvania derailed by rain, Dale McDowell returned to the driver’s seat of  #17m Super Late Model at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) on Sunday evening. After laying down the fastest time in qualifying of the twenty-nine entries on hand, McDowell received the pole position for the finale. He went on to wire the field in the 40 lap feature to score the victory. He finished ahead of Jason Hiett, Ray Cook, Ryan Gifford and Derek Ellis to record a $3,000 payday in the Independence Day Celebration Event. 

“It feels good to finally get the first win of the year out of the way,” commented McDowell. “We’ve been real close several times, and tonight we were able to put it altogether.”

Ricky Weiss Enjoys Hat Trick Weekend

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (06/30/15) – Ricky Weiss raced his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 Bloomquist Chassis/Pro Power Racing Engine Late Model to a hat trick of wins over the weekend. The Canadian driver bagged three triumphs in Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) competition.

Returning to Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minnesota), Ricky Weiss captured a Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) victory on Wednesday evening on night one of the two day event. In a field of twenty-two entries Ricky followed up his heat win by passing fast qualifier Matt Aukland on lap 4 of 25 to record his fourteenth career win with the NLRA Series. Ousting Don Shaw, Mike Balcaen, Matt Aukland and Cole Schill, Weiss picked up his ninth win on the season.

The following night kept Ricky at Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minnesota) for another night of action with the NLRA. With a larger field of twenty-five entries, Weiss followed up his quick time in qualifying and a heat race victory with his tenth victory of the 2015 season. Ricky Weiss captured a $1,100 paycheck with Dustin Strand, Zach Johnson, Steffen Snare and Donny Schatz completing the top five.

On Friday night Weiss traveled to I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) looking to extend his NLRA win streak to three. Competing with thirty-one other Late Models, Ricky landed a heat race win, transferring him into the feature event. Starting on the pole position for the feature, Weiss continued his red-hot streak scoring a $2,000 payday. Inheriting the lead on lap 15, Ricky went on to register his eleventh win of the season over Lance Matthees, Eric Breeschoten, Mike Balcaen, and Dustin Strand.

Saturday night’s scheduled event at Viking Speedway (Alexandria, Minnesota) fell victim to rain.

Shane Clanton Scores Two More Wins; Billy Clanton Memorial Next

Zebulon, Georgia (06/30/15) – The past week found Shane Clanton charging to two more feature wins with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) in his Weldbank Energy #25 Capital/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model as he extended his advantage atop the series’ standings.

On Tuesday night Shane Clanton returned to the United States as he looked to complete the sweep of New York with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS). Shane invaded Weedsport Speedway (Weedsport, New York) to compete in the Finger Lakes 40 against a field of thirty-one Super Late Models. Starting the night by setting a new track record in qualifying, Shane went on to win his heat race. After drawing the pole for the feature he led every lap of the feature event to register his ninth win of the season. Clanton ousted Tim McCreadie, Darrell Lanigan, Chase Junghans and Morgan Bagley to capture the $8,000 paycheck.

On Thursday Shane made the journey to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pennsylvania) for the first night of the 9th Annual Firecracker 100, which was sanctioned by the WoOLMS. After scoring a heat race victory, Clanton led every lap of the $6,000 feature event. The 30-lap feature presented by GottaRace.com found Shane cruising to his seventh feature win of the season with the WoOLMS. Rick Eckert, Jared Miley, Darrell Lanigan, and Eric Wells completed the top five. The victory pushed his total win tally for the year to ten.

On Friday evening for night two of the Firecracker 100, Shane followed up his 5th fastest qualifying time in his group with a heat race win. Starting in the 7th position for the 30-lap feature event, Clanton worked his way through the field to record a 3rd place outing behind race winner, Chase Junghans, and Scott Bloomquist with Chub Frank and Davey Johnson finishing the top five.

Saturday’s 9th Annual Firecracker 100 finale was postponed to September 5th due to poor weather. 

“Between the wins and track records, it was another great week for our team,” noted Clanton. “I’m equally proud of Chase (Junghans) for winning his first WoO feature there at Lernerville. Our Capital Race Cars just keep getting better, and I couldn’t be more excited about the future.”

Rodney Sanders Wins Two More; Busy Holiday Weekend Ahead

Happy, Texas (06/30/15) – Rodney Sanders pushed his 2015 win tally to sixteen over the weekend with a pair of wins aboard his potent #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified.

With his eyes on seven straight wins in the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Rodney Sanders visited to Heart O’ Texas Speedway (Elm Mott, Texas) for another round of action on Tuesday evening. In a field of thirty-two Open Wheel Modifieds, Rodney had to rely on his B-Main performance after placing 5th in his heat. Following a B-Main victory, Rodney Sanders charged from his 13th place starting position to capture his seventh straight Casey’s General Stores A-Main victory, which was worth $3,000. Steve Whiteaker Jr., Cade Dillard, Clyde Dunn Jr., and Grant Junghans completed the top five finishers.

On Wednesday night Rodney Sanders traveled with the USMTS to Devil’s Bowl Speedway (Mesquite, Texas). With forty-one cars on hand to battle for the $3,000 payday, Rodney’s winning streak came to end. After failing to record a transfer spot from his heat race, he edged his way into the feature event with a 6th place finish in his B-Main, Sanders went on to receive the hard charger award in the finale for advancing from his 24th starting spot to record a 7th place exit. 

The following night brought Rodney to East Texas Speedway (Petty, Texas) for another night of competition with the USMTS. With a smaller field of 33 entries, Sanders scored a spot into the feature event with a 2nd place outing in his heat. Starting in 9th, Rodney went on to record a 2nd place finish in the feature behind race winner, Philip Houston, with Bobby Malchus, Dereck Ramirez and Johnny Scott completing the top five. 

On Friday evening Rodney Sanders made the trip to Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore, Oklahoma) for the fourth USMTS round of the weekend. With forty-one cars signed in for the night’s program, Sanders had to rely on his B-Main showing after logging an 8th spot finish in his heat. Starting in 12th in the consolation event, Sanders charged through the field to capture the win and the transfer. With a 14th place starting spot for the Casey’s General Stores A-Main, Rodney Sanders wheeled his way through the field to notch a 3rd place finish behind race winner, Triston Dycus, and Jason Hughes with Clyde Dunn Jr., and Dereck Ramirez rounding out the top five competitors.

On Saturday night Sanders wrapped up the busy week at Lawton Speedway (Lawton, Oklahoma) for another round of USMTS action. Against a field of thirty-one Open Wheel Modifieds, Rodney earned his way into the 40-lap feature with a 2nd place outing in his heat. Starting in 6th place, Rodney Sanders captured his 16th win of the 2015 season. Competing in the Casey’s General Stores A-Main, Rodney scored a $3,000 payday with Dereck Ramirez, Steve Whiteaker Jr., Jesse Sobbing, and Cade Dillard completing the top five finishers.
