Rodney Sanders Crowned the King at Humboldt

Happy, Texas (04/01/14) – Hail to King Rodney Sanders. That was the chant from the supporters of the Happy, Texas driver after he claimed the $10,000 top prize in Saturday night's finale for the King of America IV Modified Nationals at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas).

Ninety-three entries competed in the three day extravaganza at the renowned, 3/8 mile oval, and via a $1,000 qualifier win on Friday night Sanders earned the pole position for Saturday night's 100 lap battle royal in his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified.

Sanders paced the field for the first lap of the feature before seeing Jordan Grabouski grab the lead on lap 2. Over the next several laps Rodney battled with various competitors for the runner-up position. He would ultimately pull away from his challengers to set his sights again on Grabouski as the race approached its closing circuits. With seven laps remaining as the leaders diced through lapped traffic Sanders made contact with the lapped car of Chris Brown, which sent Brown into Grabouski causing both cars to spin and stop. Rodney inherited the lead and led the final seven circuits to claim his fifth win of the season and his first title in the mega-event. Brandon Davis, Daniel Hilsabeck, Stormy Scott, and Zack Vanderbeek rounded out the top five finishers.

"I hated to see Grabouski catch that bad break with seven laps to go because he ran a great race, but it was just hard racing there at the end," said Sanders. "To beat almost a hundred of the best drivers in the country here this weekend just feels amazing, and I have to thank my crew and my sponsors for their hard work and support."

Sanders will now turn his attention to the Super Late Model ranks as he takes his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs entry into battle this Friday and Saturday at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) in a pair of Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) events. Friday night's program will be headlined by a $2,000-to-win feature with a $3,000 top prize on the line on Saturday night. For more information on the event please visit www.MLRARacing.com .

Chase Junghans Notches Top Ten at I-30; Illini 100 Up Next

Manhattan, Kansas (04/01/14) - So far it's been a year of firsts for Chase Junghans as he chases the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model Rookie of the Year title, and on Saturday night he competed at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) for the first time and came away with his best series finish of the year.

After seeing the scheduled World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO) show at Lone Star Speedway (Kilgore, Texas) washed away by Mother Nature on Friday evening, Junghans resumed action with the WoO tour on Saturday evening at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas).

Thirty-nine Super Late Models took part in the program at Tracey Clay's 1/4 mile oval, and a third place finish in his heat race locked Chase into the tenth starting spot for the 50 lap, $10,000-to-win finale.  In the feature, Junghans drove his #18 Shop Quik Racing/Capital/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to as high as the seventh position before ultimately recording solid ninth place finish at the checkered flag.

Junghans is now thirteenth in the latest WoO standings and second in the rookie of the year battle behind leader, Frank Heckenast Jr.  Complete results from the event as well as the latest standings are available at www.WoOLMS.com .

Reutzel Stopped Short at the Bowl; Geared Up for Battleground!

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (April 1, 2014) – Just when it looked as if Aaron Reutzel was poised to snare a podium finish in ASCS National action, a mechanical gremlin emerged from nowhere to stop the Clute, Texas driver’s run short in Saturday’s Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals finale.

With a new Stafford Performance powerplant plugged into the Bob and Christie Miller’s Car Parts Machine/Wren’s Motorsports No. 87 Triple-X chassis, Reutzel won his heat race handily and was ready to challenge for the top step of the podium in the 30-lap feature atop the storied ½-mile clay oval in Mesquite, TX.

But before Reutzel could even get the Momentum Racing Suspensions/Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine into the mix of things, an ignition box failure forced him pitside in the early going.

“The new motor was really good, I was impressed with it,” Reutzel commented.  “Hopefully it helps with our heat race situation when it’s locked down, I could really tell a difference.”

This time, the draw worked in the past ASCS Gulf South champion’s favor.  After winning his heat race from the front row outside, Reutzel redrew the second row outside for the feature.

“We finally got a decent draw for the heat race and we did something with it,” Reutzel commented.

Holding down third in the early going, ignition box failure ended his feature run after just four laps.

“We were gonna hold down at least a top three,” Reutzel explains.  “The car was a little tight, but we were on a full fuel load, I was just trying to bide my time early.”

Unfortunately, the time to bide was too short.

“We have the speed, now we just need a little luck,” Reutzel surmised.

Even with his second DNF of the season, Reutzel has climbed to eleventh in ASCS National points.  “We were gonna make up a lot of points with a top three finish and then that happens,” Reutzel laments.  “You can’t have DNF’s racing with these guys and now we’ve already got two, we’re definitely starting behind the eight ball.  Hopefully we’ve got that all out of the way now though.”

With the ACS National Tour idle until Saturday, April 12, at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway, Reutzel and the Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/BC Fundz/Wright Way Logistics team are set for two nights of ASCS Gulf South combat at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, this Friday and Saturday.

A $1,000 bonus is up for grabs for the driver that can sweep both ASCS Gulf South nights at Battleground.  And that’s what Reutzel will be gunning for.

“I’m really looking forward to two nights at Battleground, it’s a place where we’ve had some success,” Reutzel explained of the 3/8-mile Battleground clay oval where he picked off the first of his five 2013 ASCS Gulf South triumphs last March.  “Hopefully we can have some more success this weekend.”

2014 Quick Stats:  12 races, 3 top-fives, 7 top-tens, 1 heat race win, 2 “B” Main wins.

Up Next: ASCS Gulf South action at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, this Friday and Saturday.  ASCS National Tour action resumes on Saturday, April 12, at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway.
