Jason Hughes Tops Doug Murphrey Memorial

Westville, Oklahoma (07/06/16) – Jason Hughes added another accolade to his list of career accomplishments by powering his West Siloam Pawn #12 Hughes/Mullins Racing Engine Modified to the $5,000 win in the 9th Annual Doug Murphrey Memorial. The triumph was his first in the special event, which is held each year at Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

With the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) having an off week, Jason Hughes headed to Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma) on Saturday night. Competing in a field of 38 entries, Hughes recorded a 4th-place finish in his heat, which locked him into the A-Main. Working his way into the Top 5 in the feature, Jason registered a 4th-place finish behind Chad Wheeler, Rodney Sanders, and Jeremy Rasmussen with Mitch Keeter coming in 5th.

Sunday night brought Hughes to Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) for the 9th Annual COMP Cams Doug Murphrey Memorial. Drawing a stacked field of 52 Open Wheel Modifieds, Jason found himself in victory lane at the end of the night. Competing for a $5,000 payday in the feature, Jason Hughes stormed to his 10th win of the season with Cade Dillard, Chris Henigan, Wes Armstrong, and David Winslett trailing him across the finish line.

“This is a race that I’ve been wanting to win for almost ten years now, so it’s special to finally win it,” said Hughes. “This was a really tough field of cars tonight, but we had a really good car. I want to thank my crew, sponsors, and fans.”

Jason will enjoy a break from racing this coming weekend before returning to competition on July 14-16 with a trio of USMTS events. Ricky Weiss Takes First Win of 2016; Preps for Southern Nationals

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (07/06/16) –
Ricky Weiss recorded his first triumph of 2016 on Friday night in his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 Longhorn Chassis/Vic Hill Racing Engine Late Model. The $3,052 win came in the Scott Sexton Memorial at Volunteer Speedway.

“I really hated to see Vic’s bad luck late in the race because he had it won, but it sure feels good to get our first win in this new Longhorn,” said Weiss. “We’ll take this momentum and get ready for the Southern Nationals Series.”

Running the Ironman Mountain Championship, Ricky Weiss headed to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) on Friday night for the Scott Sexton Memorial. Timing in 2nd quick behind Vic Hill, Weiss earned the outside-front-row, starting spot for the feature alongside Hill. Inheriting the lead after race-leader Vic Hill suffered rear-end issues coming to the white flag, Ricky led the final lap to register his first win of the season and a $3,052 payday. Shanon Buckingham, Skylar Marlar, David Payne, and Stacey Boles trailed Weiss to the checkers.

The following night brought Weiss to Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee) for the first time in his career as he went into battle in another round of the Ironman Mountain Championship. Competing in a field of 16 entries, Ricky brought home his second Top 5 finish of the weekend in the feature. With $5,000 on the line, Ricky Weiss scored a 5th-place finish behind Chad Ogle, David Payne, Billy Ogle Jr. and Vic Hill.

Dustin Strand Enjoys Two Win Weekend; River Cities and Greenbush Next

Grand Forks, North Dakota (07/06/16) – Dustin Strand capitalized on a triple header of racing action over the course of the Independence Day weekend. The pilot of the RealTruck.com #71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating/Millenium Late Model registered a pair of victories.

“We had a really good car all weekend, and it showed in our results,” said Strand. “Not only was it great to win some races, but it was really special to have a lot of family and friends there with me throughout the weekend to enjoy the good times. That’s what it’s really all about.”

Making the trip north of the border, Dustin Strand traveled to Red River Co-Op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Thursday night to compete in a Weekly Racing Series Event in his #71 Late Model. Strand gained one spot in his heat, capturing the win. Coming from the 5th-starting spot in the feature, Dustin stormed to his fifth win of the season over Mike Balcaen, Kevin Sexton, Shane Edginton, and Mike Martin.

Strand headed to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) on Friday night to do battle against a field of 15 entries in the Late Model division. Cruising to a heat race win, Strand earned the 2nd-starting spot for the main event alongside Brad Seng. Working his way past Seng, Dustin charged to his sixth win of the season with Seng, Shane Edginton, Joey Pederson, and Mike Balcaen completing the Top 5.

Wrapping up the busy 4th of July weekend, Strand stopped at Viking Speedway (Alexandria, Minnesota) on Saturday night. In a field of 20 Super Late Models, Dustin posted a 3rd-place finish in is heat, setting him up with the 7th-starting spot for the feature. Running into problems in the main event, Strand pulled off early and was credited with a 14th-place finish.

Riley Hickman Sweeps the Hornet’s Nest in Holiday Weekend Action

Cleveland, Tennessee (07/06/16) – Tennessee’s Riley Hickman recorded a trio of wins over the course of the Independence Day weekend in his Hickman Manufacturing #R1 Late Model entries.

Pulling double duty, Riley Hickman opened an ultra-busy weekend by making the trip to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) on Friday night. Drawing 29 Crate Late Models for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series event, Hickman timed in 2nd quick behind Cory Hedgecock, which earned him the 2nd-starting spot for the feature in his #R1 Club 29 entry. Taking the lead on lap 27, Riley held off the field for the remaining 13 laps to record his 11th win of the season with Cory Hedgecock, Cruz Skinner, Will Roland, and Scott Dedwylder trailing him across the finish line. Hickman pocketed a $2,000 payday for his triumph in the Freedom 40 A-Main.

During the same night Hickman was one of 16 competitors signed in for the 30-lap A-Main in the Super Late Model division. Storming to his second win of the night and 12th on the season, Riley led every lap of the A-Main in his #R1 CVR hot rod with Tim Roszell, Terry Smith, Mark Bangs, and Jason Wilson rounding out the Top 5.

Competing in two divisions on Saturday night, Riley traveled to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) for the Southern All Star Series sanctioned event. With 28 cars registered, Hickman landed a podium finish in the Roscoe Smith Shootout. Jumping to the lead early in the A-Main, Riley lost the top spot on lap 10 and would go on to notch a 3rd-place finish in the 44-lapper behind Casey Roberts and Michael Page with Tyler Millwood and Todd Morrow rounding out the Top 5.

In the Crate Late Model division Hickman topped a field of 16 cars in the A-Main to capture his 13th victory of the season over Craig Scott, Matt Black, Marty Lunsford, and Corey Payton.

Competing in only his Super Late Model on Sunday, Hickman headed to Cochran Motor Speedway (Cochran, Georgia) for the 4th of July Spectacular. Timing in 5th fastest in a field of 15 cars, Riley earned the 5th-starting spot for the Southern All Star Series sanctioned A-Main. Dropping two positions in the main event, Riley Hickman registered a 7th-place outing.

“It was a pretty good weekend for our team,” said Hickman. “We may have let a win slip away, but to win three races isn’t bad at all. I just want to thank my family, my crew, my sponsors, and my fans for their support and hard work.”

Adam Bowman Bags Top 5 in Born Free 40

Seymour, Indiana (07/06/16) – Adam Bowman powered his Black Diamond by Club 29 Race Car #77 Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to a Top-5 finish in Saturday night’s Born Free 40 at Brownstown Speedway.

“We had a really good car all night, and I’m getting more and more comfortable in the Super Late Model,” commented Bowman. “This run was a big shot in the arm for me and my team. Hopefully we can continue to progress in the division.”

Competing in the unsanctioned Born Free 40, Adam Bowman visited Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) on Saturday night for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. With a field of 24 entries registered Bowman followed up the 4th-fastest time in his group with a 4th-place finish in his heat race. Starting in the 11th-position for the feature, Adam wheeled in his way through the field as he advanced six positions to score a 5th-place finish behind Devin Gilpin, Michael Chilton, Steve Casebolt, and Justin Ratliff.
