Jason Hughes Romps to Salina Loot; Leads Latest Hunt Battle

Westville, Oklahoma (08/23/16) – Jason Hughes enjoyed another great weekend behind the wheel of his Murphrey Oil Company #12 West Siloam Pawn/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified. Not only did he notch his 14th win of the 2016 season, but he also extended his advantage atop the USMTS Hunt standings.

Returning to action with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Jason Hughes traveled to Adams County Speedway (Corning, Iowa) on Thursday night for round six of The Hunt for the Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing and Rental. Storming to a heat race victory from the 5th-starting spot, Jason transferred into the main event with the pole position. Battling for a $3,000 payday, Jason ultimately registered a 5th-place in the 32-lapper, finishing behind Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek, Jesse Sobbing, and Rodney Sanders.

With the weather postponing Friday night’s Grant Junghans Memorial at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas), Jason invaded Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma) on Saturday night. In a stout field of 64 Open Wheel Modifieds, Jason captured another heat race win, giving him the 3rd-starting spot for the feature. Taking the lead on lap 21, Hughes held off the field for the remaining 11 laps to pick up his 14th win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Cade Dillard, Terry Phillips, Jesse Sobbing, and Zack VanderBeek trailed Jason Hughes across the finish line.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening at 81 Speedway (Wichita, Kansas) with the final USMTS event of the weekend. Jason parlayed a heat race win into the 5th-starting spot for the 42-lap finale. He would go on to advance to a runner-up finish behind race winner, Ryan Gustin.

“It was another great weekend for our team,” said Hughes. “Salina Highbanks is absolutely one of my favorite tracks in the country, so it was really satisfying to get the win there. We just have to keep staying consistent if we are going to win another championship.”

Jason remains atop The Hunt for the Casey's Cup standings with a 55-point advantage over Cade Dillard for the top spot. Hughes Race Cars continues to also lead the Manufacturer’s Championship standings. Complete results and the latest standings can be found at www.USMTS.com.

The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup continues this week with four more events. Action opens on Thursday evening at Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) before moving to Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) on Friday. From there the USMTS competitors head to Park Jefferson Speedway (North Sioux City, South Dakota) on Saturday with a weekend closer on Sunday at Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota). Blaney Victorious at Grandview, Earns Top 10s at Williams Grove and Lincoln

Inside Line Promotions - WEST LEBANON, N.Y. (Aug. 23, 2016) - Dale Blaney put together an efficient weekend with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during a four-race swing in the East.

"That area of the country is pretty tough to deal with," he said. "Grandview Speedway had five or six of the best Pennsylvania guys that are running now. Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway are extremely tough places to go to. I feel like we ran as well as we could have hoped. If we could have finished out with a second last night it would have been a great weekend."

The action began last Thursday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., where Blaney led the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team to quick time during qualifying. Blaney then placed second in both a heat race and the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"Lucas (Wolfe) is really good at Grandview," he said. "I followed him around for a while until we got to traffic. I could go to the middle and the bottom. Traffic worked my way and we took the lead. Being in second and getting to traffic is good. Then we had a really good race with Stevie (Smith) in the middle portion. He got by me and I got back by him. I was pretty excited to win that one. I felt like that was a really good win."

Blaney captured his eighth win of the season and his first career at Grandview Speedway to open the busy weekend on the right foot.

Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., hosted an event on Friday. Blaney timed in fifth quickest during qualifying before he finished second in a heat race and sixth in the dash.

"I had a good dash starting spot and gave up a couple of spots," he said. "We made some changes for the A Main. I felt like I had a top-five car. I just didn't make good laps in the middle portion of it and got us behind. There wasn't a whole lot of moving. I think the first seven starters finished in the first seven spots."

Blaney capped the night with a seventh-place result.

The team ventured to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., on Saturday. Blaney again set quick time during qualifying before advancing to a second-place result in a heat race and a third-place finish in the dash.

"We were good every time we hit the track," he said. "(In the main event) I just didn't get as good of a start as I wanted to. I fell back to fourth. I was as good as (Alan) Krimes, (Danny) Dietrich and Lucas (Wolfe) for a little bit. I just could not get maneuverable where I wanted to and do anything with them. To come out of there with a fourth was good though."

Blaney's fourth-place finish propelled him back into the lead in the All Star championship standings entering the weekend's final race at Lebanon Valley Speedway, where action was postponed a day because of poor weather.

Blaney was a frontrunner once racing got underway on Monday. He qualified second quickest, ended third in a heat race and won the dash to give him the pole position for the main event.

"I felt like Sammy (Swindell) and I were the best two cars all night," he said. "We were by far the two best cars and I think it showed once we got to racing. After the first couple of laps we were nose to tail the whole time. We were rolling through traffic and where he went I went. We had 10 laps to go when I got a flat tire."

Blaney was running second when his right rear tire went flat just past the halfway point. He didn't have any time in the work area and was unable to resume action. Blaney was credited with a 12th-place result, which puts him 14 points behind the leader in the All Star championship standings entering races this Saturday at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind., and Sunday at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio.

Hagar Ready to Move Past Frustrating Weekend in Missouri

Inside Line Promotions - SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 23, 2016) - Frustrating is how Derek Hagar described last weekend.

"It was terrible," he said. "We didn't have a good pill draw either night and it was downhill from there."

The action began on Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Mo., where the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour made its debut. Hagar advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race to narrowly lock into the 15th starting position for the main event.

"We barely made it in the show," he said. "We were making some headway. One of the local guys decided he needed the spot better than I did and ran me over. We put a couple of tires back on and went back out there, but once I got lapped I pulled in. The race track was just one groove and I didn't want to be in the way so I pulled in."

He was credited with an 18th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway for the High Roller Classic with the ASCS National Tour.

"I drew the 72 pill out of 72 pills and I had the stoutest heat race you could possibly get," he said. "It had (Terry) McCarl, (Danny) Lasoski, (Matt) Covington, (Jamie) Ball, all the heavy hitters in it."

Hagar placed eighth, which relegated him to the B Main. He then charged from 14th to third place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the A Main, where he maneuvered from 19th to a 12th-place finish.

"We made some changes on the car for the B Main because we had to start on the last row and we ended up making it into the show," he said. "We had a good car. We just started so far back in the A Main. We got to zinging around the top. I tried to be patient and hope for restarts. We made some things happen on restarts. We got up to 11th and on the last lap a lapped car slid up in front of me and Tony Bruce Jr got by me.

"It was one of those reality weekends to show you not everything goes as well as you hope. It reminds you how weekends can be so you don't take the good weekends for granted."

Hagar will return to action this Saturday at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn., with the USCS Series.

Hanks Seeking to Build on ASCS Red River Region Points Lead Saturday at Superbowl

Inside Line Promotions - BURLISON, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2016) - Brandon Hanks owns a 168-point lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings with only five races remaining.

The next test is this Saturday at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.

"We're going after the championship," he said. "We want to win. That's the main goal. Now that we're running for a championship we need to make sure we keep our nose clean and have consistent nights."

Hanks has been the most consistent driver in the region this season as he has earned two wins, eight top fives and 10 top 10s - either tied for or leading each statistic.

"We have a good chance and we don't want to give anything up," he said. "We need to be smart and make good decisions. But if we can go after the win we're going after the win."

Hanks has been to Superbowl Speedway twice this season. The first race was rained out and he ended fifth during the most recent visit.

"I'm looking forward to going back because we're going to do the same thing we did, but tinker with it a little," he said. "There's not a whole lot of tracks where the backstretch is one big corner. It is different from anywhere we go. I enjoy going there. It was really racy last time. It's a nice race track."

Bergman last competed at the bullring in Greenville, Texas, last year when he picked up a regional victory. He was slated to race at Superbowl Speedway this spring before the event was rained out.

Bergman is also hoping for a little luck after coming off a frustrating weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

The action began last Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Mo., where he placed fourth in a heat race, won the B Main and maneuvered from 17th to 11th place in the main event.

The following night he advanced from fifth to third place in heat race competition at Missouri State Fair Speedway to advance into the feature redraw during the High Roller Classic.
