Jason Hughes Takes Two Wins in USMTS Hunt Openers

Westville, Oklahoma (08/10/15) – Jason Hughes began his pursuit of his second United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) national championship in his #12 Red Tail Tackle/Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified on a strong note over the weekend by winning two of the first four events in the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup.

Beginning the Hunt for the United States Modified Tour Series (USMTS) Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental, Jason Hughes traveled to 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) on Thursday night. Transferring into the feature with a 3rd place finish in his heat, Jason earned an 11th place starting spot for the A-Main. Battling in a field of twenty-eight cars, Hughes improved eights spots, logging a 3rd place finish behind race winner, Jeremy Payne, and Stormy Scott with Rodney Sanders and Brent Larson completing the top five. 

The following night brought Hughes to Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) for another round of action in the USMTS. Scoring another 3rd place finish in his heat, Jason transferred into the feature with a 2nd place starting position. Looking to bring home a $3,000 payday, Hughes led all 40-laps in the A-Main with Stormy Scott, Zack VanderBeek, Rodney Sanders, and Johnny Scott rounding out the top five.

Saturday night Jason headed to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) for round three of the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup. Improving four spots in his heat to log a 3rd place finish, Jason transferred into the A-Main in the 12th starting spot. With 40-laps set on the scoreboard, Jason Hughes worked his way through the field to register a 6th place finish. 

Wrapping up the busy week, Jason Hughes visited Monett Speedway (Monett, Missouri) to do battle for another $3,000 payday with the USMTS. Scoring a runner-up finish from 8th in his heat, Jason earned a 2nd place starting spot for the feature. Leading all 40-laps, Jason cruised to his 6th victory of the season with Rodney Sanders, Stormy Scott, Terry Phillips, and Jesse Sobbing completing the top five.

Hughes now turns his attention to the next three Hunt for the Casey’s Cup events with the USMTS with a tripleheader this weekend, August 13th-15th. Action opens on Thursday evening at Red Cedar Speedway (Menomonie, Wisconsin) before moving to Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin). The weekend concludes on Saturday evening at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota).
