Jason Hughes Wins USMTS Prelim; Runner-Up in WMDTC Finale

Westville, Oklahoma (07/30/15) – Jason Hughes powered his West Siloam Pawn #12 Red Tail Tackle/Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified to a prelim win during the 5th Annual Red Tail Tackle World Modified Dirt Track Championship before finishing in the runner-up spot in the finale.

Jason Hughes made the trip to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on Thursday night for the opening round of the USMTS-sanctioned, 5th Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Red Tail Tackle. In a field of 63 Open Wheel Modifieds, Hughes’ 4th place finish in heat transferred him into the B-Main. Coming from 3rd and winning his B-Main, Jason improved five spots in the 30-lap feature event retiring a 12th place finish.

On Friday night with the same car count of 63 Open Wheel Modifieds, Hughes scored a heat race win from the 6th position, setting him up for the feature event. Starting on the pole for the preliminary feature, Jason cruised to his fourth victory of the season with Rodney Sanders, Brandon Davis, Brad Dierks and Dan Ebert completing the top five.

Wrapping up the busy weekend on Saturday, Hughes logged two podium finishes in the two segments of the mega finale. Starting in 4th for the first 30-lap feature, Hughes improved one spot, recording a 3rd place finish behind Rodney Sanders and Brandon Davis with Terry Phillips and Brad Dierks following him to the finish line.

After a 10 minute intermission to make any last second adjustments, Jason Hughes headed back out for the 50-lap main event with a 3rd place starting spot. Battling for a $15,000 paycheck, Jason advanced one spot in the feature to 2nd place finish behind race winner, Rodney Sanders with Terry Phillips, Joey Jensen, and Zack VanderBeek rounding out the top five.

“We gave it all we had this weekend, but just came up a little bit short in the end,” commented Hughes. “Sanders has been tough all year, and this weekend was no different story. We’ll keep digging though, and move on to the next show.”
