Jason Hughes Crowned the King of America at Humboldt

Westville, Oklahoma (03/30/15) – Jason Hughes has won countless major events with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). However, he had never won the King of America at Humboldt Speedway. That changed this weekend, though, as he powered his West Siloam Pawn #12 Red Tail Tackle/Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified to the $10,500 win.

Jason entered the King of America V Modified Nationals over the weekend at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) as eighty-two of the nation's best competitors registered for the $10,000-to-win event.

The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event began on Thursday and Friday night with dual qualifying heats each night, with cumulative points counting toward the Saturday night finale. On Thursday evening Hughes advanced from the second starting spot to a heat race win in the first heat, and the raced from the seventh starting spot in the second heat to a fourth place finish.

On Friday night Hughes enjoyed another great outing as he battled his way forward from the eighth starting position to a third place finish in the first heat. The second heat race saw Jason charge through the field from his eleventh starting spot to register another solid third place finish. His efforts locked him into the second starting spot for Saturday night's 100-lap finale alongside Dereck Ramirez.

When the race went green, Ramirez took control and pulled out to a big lead. But his advantage began to shrink after lap-twelve when a swarm of lapped cars slowed his progress and allowed Hughes to narrow the gap. Hughes stalked Ramirez for the first half of the race, looking for a way around. A yellow flag on lap 57 gave Hughes the chance he needed when Ramirez bobbled in turn-four on the restart. Hughes pulled alongside and edged Ramirez by a nose to take the lead for the first time on lap 58.

Hughes paced the field for the final 43 laps to capture the victory in the King of America V Modified Nationals over Rodney Sanders, Ramirez, Brandon Davis, and Jeremy Payne.

“We had a pretty good race car tonight,” Hughes said. “We started the year off good and found a few problems with it, went down and did some testing last week and got her dialed in for this race," he added. Saturday night's $10,000 payday marked Hughes' first USMTS victory since October 11, 2013.

Jason will enjoy the upcoming Easter weekend at home with his family before resuming USMTS action on April 9th-11th with a tripleheader in Texas. Superbowl Speedway (Greenville, Texas), RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas), and LoneStar Speedway (Kilgore, Texas) will all be a part of the weekend’s schedule. Brandon Hightower Bags Biggest Career Win

Natchitoches, Louisiana (03/30/15) – 17-year-old, Brandon Hightower registered the biggest win of his young career over the weekend by topping the $2,000-to-win, Limited Modified event at Baton Rouge Raceway in the Mahfouz Motorsports #B52 Express Race Car/PTS Racing Engine entry.

Brandon Hightower was back in action at Baton Rouge Raceway (Baker, Louisiana) on Saturday night, and it would prove to be a memorable outing for the young driver.

Preliminary action on Friday night set the twenty-car field for the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win main event. Brandon's heat race victory positioned him starting second, alongside Shane Hebert on the front row.

When the race went green, Hightower immediately took control and began to pull away. The Natchitoches, Louisiana ace had nearly a straightaway lead over his nearest competitor by the second circuit. Despite numerous caution periods, Brandon dominated the event for his first-career, Limited Modified victory.
