Chris Brown Competes in USMTS Weekend; King of America Next

Spring, Texas (03/28/13) – Chris Brown is locked and loaded to take his #21 Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance/Hughes/Roush Yates Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified into battle in this weekend's King of America III Modified Nationals.

Chris Brown was last in action a week ago, when he took part in a three race swing with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) over the March 15th-17th, weekend, which rumbled across Texas and Louisiana.

The trio of events began on Friday night, March 15th at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) with a $4,000-to-win program, which saw fifty-one Open Wheel Modified entries pass through the gate. Preliminary action found Brown earning the sixteenth starting spot for the 50 lap feature, and in the main event he advanced five spots to record an eleventh place finish.

On Saturday night, March 16th the USMTS competitors thundered into the 1/4 mile confines of Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) for a $2,000-to-win, 40 lap shootout. Once again fifty-one entries were in the pit area, and a sixth to third run in the second heat race locked Brown into the eighth starting spot for the main event. Chris ran in the top ten for the duration of the event before crossing the finish line in the eighth position.

The ultra-busy weekend concluded on Sunday evening at Boothill Speedway (Greenwood, Louisiana) with another $2,000-to-win program. Brown started his evening outing with a second to first performance in the first heat, which locked him into the redraw for the feature, where he received the seventh starting spot. For the second night in a row he battled in the bottom half of the top ten for the duration of the event before notching a seventh place finish.

Full results from all three events are available at www.USMTS.com.
The team now turns their attention to this weekend's King of America III Modified Nationals at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas). Jason Hughes Sets Sights on King of America Title

Westville, Oklahoma (3/28/13) – There's not many Open Wheel Modified events that Jason Hughes hasn't claimed at least one win, but this weekend he will pursue one such title as he is set to take his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Gressel Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified into action in the King of America III at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas).

Jason has frequented victory lane at Humboldt Speedway over the past several years, but a win in the first two editions of the King of America Modified Nationals have been elusive to him. He hopes to change that in this weekend's $10,000-to-win program. More than 100 of the best-of-the-best Open Wheel Modified pilots from across the country are converging on the 1/4 mile oval. On Thursday and Friday night preliminary action will be held, while the event will culminate on Saturday night with a $10,000-to-win finale. For more information on the event, please visit www.HumboldtSpeedway.com .

While rain was the victor last weekend Jason Hughes Motorsports was last in action over the March 15th-17th weekend as the team traveled to Texas and Louisiana over the weekend for a three-race swing with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors.

A beautiful evening at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) greeted the competitors on Friday night, and an overflowing pit area of 51 entries awaited battle. A second place finish in the third heat race locked Hughes into the twelfth starting spot for the 40 lap, $4,000-to-win finale. As the race went green Jason began methodically working through the field, and a lap 20 restart saw him jump into the second spot. He took part in a heated battle for the second spot for next dozen laps before finally breaking free as he set his sights on the leader, Rodney Sanders. Hughes challenged Sanders in the closing laps, but was unable to make the pass as he settled for a second place finish.

Friday night found the USMTS competitors in a new town as they invaded Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) for a $2,000-to-win program. Heat race action atop the 1/4 mile oval left Hughes short of qualifying for the feature, but a second place finish in his b-main locked him into the fifteenth starting spot for the 40 lap feature. In the feature he raced around mid-pack for the duration of the feature, unable to advance any spots as he recorded a fifteenth place finish.

The busy weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening at Boothill Speedway (Greenwood, Louisiana) with another $2,000-to-win event. A fifth to second run in the third heat race moved Jason Hughes to the redraw for the 40 lap feature, where he received the eighth starting spot. Despite getting the short end of the stick in the redraw Hughes enjoyed a strong run in the feature as he passed five cars on his way to a third place finish behind race winner, Stormy Scott, and Rodney Sanders.

Jared Landers Scores Top 5 at Brownstown; Carolina Crown Next

Batesville, Arkansas (03/28/13) - Jared Landers returned to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series over the weekend in his #5 Clint Bowyer Motorsports/Peak Motor Oil/Barry Wright/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) and came away with a fourth place finish to show for his efforts.

Thirty-seven Super Late Models registered for battle in the $10,000-to-win, 16th Annual Indiana Ice Breaker  at the 1/4 mile oval, and in time trials Landers registered the fastest time in his group to earn the pole for his heat race.  Contact with an infield, tractor tire early in the heat relegated him to a third place finish.  As a result he started tenth on the grid for the 50 lap feature.

During the course of the main event Landers advanced six positions to finish fourth at the checkered flag behind race winner, Dennis Erb Jr., Don O'Neal, and Greg Johnson.

Jared is now fifth in the latest series' standings.  Full results from the event and the latest series' standings are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

This weekend, March 28th-30th, the team will enter the 2nd Annual Carolina Crown at Lancaster Speedway (Lancaster, South Carolina) as Landers looks to improve his finishing position from the 2012 edition of the race by one spot.  In last year's event Landers led in the event before a flat tire forced him pitside.  He recovered to battle for the lead late in the event with eventual winner, Scott Autry, before settling for a second place finish.  In this year's $30,000-to-win event he will look for redemption.  Practice will be held on Thursday evening with time trial and heat race action on Friday evening, while Saturday's program will include b-mains and the finale.  For more information on the event, please visit www.TheCarolinaCrown.com .
