Mark Whitener Bests BRP NeSmith Foes for First Win of 2015

Middleburg, Florida (02/02/15) – Mark Whitener and Big Frog Motorsports claimed the first win of the 2015 campaign with a $2,000 triumph at Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) on Wednesday night in their #58 Dave's Towing/B&B Produce/Barry Wright Late Model.

Big Frog Motorsports returned to action on Wednesday night with the opening round of four straight events with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, which were held as part of the annual Bubba Army Winternationals at the uniquely-shaped oval. The team enjoyed a strong start to the weekend as Mark Whitener powered to the $2,000 victory in the opening round.

Mark posted the third fastest time overall in qualifying, amongst the thirty-six entries on hand for the event, locking him into the third starting spot for the 40 lap finale. Following an early battle with Jacob Hawkins for the second spot, Whitener would take the position for good on lap thirteen and begin to reel in race leader, Michael Lake. One circuit later, Whitener used the bottom groove coming off the fourth turn to get underneath Lake and take the lead.

From there Whitener held on through adverse track conditions for a 1.415 second margin of victory over Hawkins. Max Blair finished third while Walker Arthur took home fourth and Ryan King rounded out the top five finishers.

“The heavy rain from earlier in the week made it pretty wild out there tonight, but the track crew did a great job giving us a track to race on,” said Whitener in victory lane. “It was a really fun race though, and I can’t thank my team enough for giving me such a great race car.”

After battling bad luck to a 14th place finish on Thursday night, Whitener bounced back to score a pair of second place finishes to close out the weekend, including a runner-up finish to Walker Arthur in Saturday night’s 10th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship race, which posted a $10,000 top prize.

Chattanooga, Tennessee (02/02/15) – It was back to business for Todd Morrow on Saturday afternoon as he pulled double duty in the annual Cabin Fever 40 at Boyd's Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). His hard work rewarded him with a win and an additional top ten finish.

In the Super Late Model ranks Todd went into battle in the Pope Construction #T1 Phillips Properties/Warrior against a strong field of forty-eight entries. He fell just short of locking into the feature via time trials and would have to run a b-main. Morrow went on to win his b-main, earning him the fourteenth starting spot for the $3,000-to-win finale. During the course of the 40 lapper he advanced to a sixth place finish behind race winner, Riley Hickman, Donald McIntosh, Pierce McCarter, Cory Hedgecock and Jason Hiett.

The Crate Late Model event boosted a $1,000 top prize as Todd once again was up against a stout field of forty-two competitors. Morrow posted the fastest lap in qualifications in his A-Plus Motorsports/GRT #8A Crate Late Model entry to lock into the pole position for the main event. After avoiding disaster following contact with a slower car on lap twelve of the feature, Todd went on to score his first victory of the 2015 campaign over Bobby Richey, Travman McCoy, Jason Welshan and John Owenby.
“This was truly a great outing for us in both the Crate Late Model and the Super Late Model,” said Morrow. “I’m truly blessed to have the opportunity to race for such great teams. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish this year!”

Morrow’s next time behind the wheel is slated for February 14th at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) in the Sweetheart Race, which will post a $1,500 winner’s check. For more information on the event, please visit www.411MotorSpeedway.net .

Bell Wraps up Aussie Week in Grand Classic Feature!

Lonnie Wheatley, NORMAN, Okla. (February 2, 2015) – Christopher Bell finished out his first Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic Week in Australia among the elite by making the feature cut amongst a field of more than 100 competitors at Premier Speedway on January 25.

With Bell’s first whirlwind tour of Australia in the books, the next scheduled action for the 20-year-old from Norman, OK, will be on the asphalt with Late Model competition at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway on February 19-21.

Not even 24 hours after finishing up his second consecutive Chili Bowl Midget National championship feature start on January 17, Bell was Australia bound for Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic Week that encompassed four nights of competition over five days aboard the Consol Racing No. 21.
“It was a lot of fun down there, there are a lot of good people that make it a fun time,” Bell said of the week Down Under.

After getting his feet wet in a Wednesday outing at Avalon Raceway, perhaps Bell’s best run of the week came in the next night’s President’s Cup event at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway where he rallied from 12th to round out the podium in third.

“It was rough and heavy,” Bell said of the Borderline circuit.  “I had a really good car, I clipped someone along the way and the nose wing finally came down ten or twelve laps later.  We were really on the move before that.”

From there it was on to Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway for Bell’s first crack at the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and the Oklahoma shoe was among seven American drivers to make the feature cut in the $30,000-to-win finale among the field of 106.

After scratching out an eleventh-place finish in his Friday night preliminary event, Bell went forward from sixth to second in his Sunday night heat race to earn a front row “B” Main starting berth.
“We had a really good car on the last night, went sixth to second in the heat and was leading the B when it started pouring down rain,” Bell recounts.  “When we finally restarted, we got back into traffic in the B, that’s how good we were.”

The late rain wasn’t conducive to much passing action in the feature though, with Bell making his way from 19th to finish 16th in the 40-lap finale.

“It was hammer down for 40 laps, non-stop,” Bell says.

Bell summed up the quick week with, “The Consol guys were great to race for and the fans down there are awesome, it was a great experience.”

Bell is set to return to asphalt action next aboard a Late Model at New Smyrna Speedway.

2015 Quick Stats:  12 races, 2 top-fives, 7 top-tens.

Next Up: Asphalt late model action at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway on February 19-21.

Blake Hahn Set For Sophomore Year with Lucas Oil ASCS

TULSA, Okla. (February 2, 2015) Blake Hahn's rookie season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real was filled with success, but was also filled with unforeseen obstacles.

"It was a long hard year, but you can't focus on that," said Hahn when asked about his rookie season. "You just need to keep your head up and focus on what's ahead because really, it'll all work out in the end. We had some great finishes and learned a lot so there were more positives than anything last year."

Finishing tenth in tour standings, the 2014 Brodix Rookie of the Year rolled out 10 top-ten finishes as well as four top-fives in 32 feature starts.

Reassessing his program during the off-season, one aspect that will not change is personnel as father, Tom Hahn, and crew member, Dalton Seigler, will again accompany Blake on the road this season. Equipment on the other hand will see several changes.

"We had been running an '06 Big Max, and it's a great car, but we made the decision to switch to JR1 Chassis this season. Jerry [Russell] came to us with an offer that we really couldn't pass up and with the way his cars have performed, I feel good about the change."

Moving to Penske shocks on the Speedway Vending / CSR Garage No. 52 as well, Hahn is looking at the big picture and putting together a full season, keeping the idea of consistency at the forefront of his team, "We're just looking to make good laps every time we hit the track and above all, have fun. A top-five in points would be nice, but we are focused on putting an entire season together."

Keeping with Wesmar power for the 2015 season, Hahn will take in as many races as the team can handle with a schedule of nearly 65 dates between ASCS National and Regional competition.

Overall, Blake Hahn has competed in 47 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature events with six top-fives' and 16 top-tens' to his credit. Starting in ASCS regional competition in 2012, Hahn has earned four regional victories.

The 2015 season for the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real begins at East Bay Raceway Park with the 14th annual Ronald Laney Memorial, happening February 19, 20, and 21. The following weekend will see the series make their first appearance at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.

The 2015 season will mark the 24th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation in both National and Regional competition.
