Jared Hawkins Prepares for Racing Trip to New Zealand

Fairmont, West Virginia (12/14/12) – For the second time in his career Jared Hawkins is preparing to head down under to take on some of New Zealand's best competitors.

Hawkins will fly to New Zealand on December 22nd in preparation for a five race series at Baypark Speedway (Tauranga, New Zealand). He will be piloting an entry in the Super Saloon division, which is similar to the Super Late Model division in the United States. A five race series will be held with events on December 28th and 29th, and then on January 2nd, 5th, and 12th. Jared will be behind the wheel of an entry prepared and owned by Maurice Cowling, whom Hawkins drove for in 2011 when he became the first American driver to ever win the New Zealand Grand Prix.

"I couldn't be more excited to be heading back to New Zealand to drive for Mr. Cowling," commented Hawkins. "He and his entire group are a great group of people and run a first class organization. The fans are awesome down there as well. This is a big deal for me!"

Jared will be joined by his brother, Jacob Hawkins, who may be competing in some events in the Saloon division, which is similar to a Crate Late Model in the United States.

More news from Jared Hawkins include him splitting ways with his car owner of two years, Bobby Lake at the end of the 2012 season. For 2013 Jared will be driving for his family-owned team, J-Hawk Motorsports, and hopes to open his season in March.
