Dover Drives to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Win for Sixth Straight Season

Inside Line Promotions - JETMORE, Kan. (May 28, 2013) - Simply put, Jack Dover is on a roll and his destination toward a career-best 20 wins is edging closer and closer.

Dover claimed the final two events of a four-race weekend, including the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour 5th annual Steve King Memorial at The Great American Dirt Track on Saturday. It marked his second Steve King Memorial win and his sixth consecutive year with at least one Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature victory.

"If you want to be one of the best you've got to beat the best," he said. "That just shows we can race with the best."

Dover, who claimed the inaugural Steve King Memorial in 2009 and the overall title in 2011, maneuvered from third to second in his heat race and earned enough points to advance to the redraw. He pulled the No. 4 to start the 30-lap feature on the outside of the second row.

"Fourth was definitely a helper," he said. "Starting there made it easier to get to the front. I think if we would have started 10th or so we still would have worked our way to the front. Winning it the first year and going back and winning a prelim night (in 2011), it's definitely a confidence thing when you pull in that town and you know you're gonna do good."

Dover advanced to third on the start and to the runner-up position a couple of laps later. Dover then set his sights on leader Tony Bruce Jr., who struggled to exit turn two as the race went on.

"I just let up off the gas pretty much all the way coming off turn two to keep the tires from spinning," Dover said. "It was kind of a tricky track. I would run around there wide open in turns three and four because the wind would actually push the car to the right and keep it loaded so you could drive hard into that corner."
Dover took the lead on Lap 18 and cruised to his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour victory of the year in just his fourth start this season. It also marked his second straight night with a win as Dover led all 25 laps to claim Friday's Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region event at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb.

Dover swept the night by leading all eight laps of his heat race to advance to the redraw, where he earned the pole after drawing the No. 1.

"It's definitely a confidence booster and it helps," he said. "Mainly when I drew that one my concern was Brian Brown. I had to stay out in front of him."

Dover did exactly that to garner his second Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region win of the season in only the fourth event. He has a 100-point lead in the region standings.

"I haven't seen the track that good in probably four years there," Dover said. "It was wide and racy. You could run on the top and on the bottom. You could race wherever you needed to."

Dover began the week of four consecutive nights of racing on Wednesday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., where the u-joint in his car broke during the warm-up lap. It forced Dover to the pits before the green flag.

"It just exploded and I looked down and saw sparks," said Dover, who was slated to start 15th. "I was trying to get it stopped as fast as I could. I think we were a top-five car. The track started getting rough and I like rough tracks."

On Thursday, Dover charged from seventh to third in his heat race to earn a spot in the redraw. He pulled the No. 6 to start on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"I watched the B feature and went down and looked at all the B feature cars and it looked like the track was eating tires," he said. "I figured it would take more rubber so I set up for the rubber and had the car too free. It just screwed me up the whole race."

Dover finished 12th.

He is scheduled to return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action this weekend with a race on Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., and Saturday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals.

Rose Garners a Top 10 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte During Challenging Week

Inside Line Promotions - LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 28, 2013) - A busy week of action was highlighted by a top 10 for Bill Rose, who said he has struggled to adapt to the new Hoosier tires after missing most of the start of the season because of a broken arm.

"I've still got some learning to do to get back into the swing of things," he said. "We're bouncing back and forth with some shocks just trying to get me comfortable. When you think about how many people have struggled this year, the only one who has been consistent all year long is Daryn Pittman. I'm still trying to get the feel for these tires."

While the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series has completed more than two dozen events this season, Rose is only a handful into his return. A 10 th-place finish at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., on Friday showcased his four-race schedule last week.

"Our car was good and everything," he said. "The later you qualified the better it got. We qualified good considering when we went out. We just kept getting better and better. I did some different stuff to the car and it worked."

Rose qualified 14th quickest and locked into the feature by finishing sixth in his heat race. He then charged from 15th to 10 th in the feature on the challenging track.

"When it's all said and done I should have moved up on the race track," he said. "As good as my car was I think I could have moved corners better and got around there. I should have raced mid-track in (turns) one and two and stayed on the bottom in (turns) three and four."

Rose struggled with the setup in the other three races, beginning a week ago Monday, May 20, at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y. He qualified 22nd and was only able to gain one position in the feature on the narrow track.

Rose continued to experiment with the setup on Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., where he missed locking into the feature by one position in the heat races and then finished seventh in the Last Chance Showdown.

Following his top 10 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Rose was doomed when the power steering pump came loose on the car during hot laps on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway. He wasn't able to complete hot laps or watch qualifying before his turn.

"We were just behind the eight ball because the power steering pump came loose," he said. "All night long I just could never get it right."

Rose qualified 29th, forcing him to the back of his heat race and the Last Chance Showdown. He was unable to advance to the feature through either.

Bill Rose Racing driver David Gravel recorded four top 20s during the week, highlighted by a drive from 19th to eighth at Lawrenceburg Speedway to earn the KSE Hard Charger Award.
Rose, Gravel and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series will compete on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Saturday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown.

Mark Burch Motorsports Earns First Visit to Victory Lane This Season With Lasoski

Inside Line Promotions - GREENWOOD, Neb. (May 28, 2013) - Surprise, surprise. Guess who ended in Victory Lane in only their sixth race of the season.

Mark Burch Motorsports and Danny Lasoski claimed the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at I-80 Speedway on Thursday for the second consecutive year to cap a successful week with a pair of podiums.
After drawing the highest number, which forced the team to start last in the heat race, Lasoski charged from ninth to third to be the third-highest points earner and earn a bid in the redraw. He pulled the No. 3 to start on the inside of the second row.

"I think it was the very last number in the pill box," Lasoski said. "Mark did a very good job of getting the car balanced where we could be mobile. From ninth to third put us in the redraw and that's where you need to be."

With a cold engine, Lasoski stumbled on the start of the main event and fell to fifth before quickly regaining third place a handful of laps later.

"With the temperature cooling off as much as it was, it took a lap or two to get back warm," Lasoski said. "We learned a lesson there. We should have started it and let it warm up before the feature."

Pinned to the bottom of the track, Lasoski capitalized on a restart on Lap 5 to advance to the runner-up position before passing Jason Johnson for the lead on Lap 13.

"I just knew (Johnson) and (Brian Brown) are stellar at that place and they run the top period," Lasoski said. "If we wanted to win the race we had to go somewhere they weren't.

"(The bottom lane) was razor sharp. If you missed it by one foot you were sliding up the track."

Lasoski was "lucky" to build a 3.5 second lead before the final caution, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. He then held off Brown to capture the victory.

The Mark Burch Motorsports team opened the week on Wednesday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., where Lasoski led all eight laps to claim his heat race. That gave him enough points to advance to the redraw and he pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole for the feature.
"You couldn't ask for the race track to be in any better shape," he said. "We were lucky. We drew No. 1 and from there you have to hold your position."

Lasoski led the first 16 laps before Johnny Herrera drove around him to the lead. Brown took the runner-up position the ensuing lap.

"The last 10 laps I was just hanging on and those were the laps we needed to be great," Lasoski said after finishing third. "We left it too free from the get-go. We were thinking the race track would stay stickier longer. We didn't want to get too tight because we knew we'd get into lapped traffic within a few laps.
"We came back the next night and redeemed ourselves."

Mark Burch Motorsports and Lasoski will compete on Friday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan.

Hahn Faces Tough Luck in First Visit to Three Midwest Tracks

Inside Line Promotions - JETMORE, Kan. (May 28, 2013) - For Brandon Hahn, logging laps is the name of the game.

In his second year of racing sprint cars, Hahn has ventured onto the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Presented by MAVTV American Real. Last week he competed at three tracks in three states, encountering tough luck on his first visit to each of the facilities.

"It was just not a very good weekend," Hahn said. "My plan is to just learn and soak up as much from the other drivers, get laps and don't tear my equipment up. Finishing every race is my main plan, but it's hard when you have problems. We just had a really tough weekend."

Hahn kicked off the week on Wednesday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., where he finished fourth in his heat race. He narrowly missed advancing to the feature and was relegated to a B Main, which he started second.

Hahn competed for one of the three transfer positions for the entire 12 laps before ending fourth - one spot out of advancing to the main event.

Mechanical gremlins plagued the team the following night when the MSD box went bad in his heat race at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. It dropped Hahn from third to last - ninth - and forced him to the back of the B Main.

"I got lapped and that was it for me," he said. "I didn't want to hurt my motor so I decided to pull in before the checkered flag. It seemed like we were behind the eight ball from the start of the night and I didn't want to make it worse."

On Saturday, the team ventured to The Great American Dirt Track for the 5th annual Steve King Memorial, where engine woes slowed Hahn. He started the feature in 17th, but was unable to complete many laps before heading to the pits.

"My motor just was not up to par and in the feature it made a different noise," Hahn said. "That's my only good motor so I wanted to salvage it."

He finished 17th to cap the challenging weekend.

The team is using a backup engine this weekend when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Presented by MAVTV American Real visits Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., on Friday and Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., on Saturday for the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals.

QUICK RESULTS -
May 22 - Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. - Heat race: 4 (3); B Main: 4 (2).
May 23 - I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. - Heat race: 9 (3); B Main: 17 (19).

Rilat Comes Up Short in Bid for First Victory at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (May 28, 2013) - Travis Rilat was going for the win.
After Saturday's ASCS Northwest Region opener was rained out at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., Rilat put himself in position to record his first win of the season in Richard Saumure's No. 39c after the team changed plans to head to Skagit Speedway.

"We made it just in time for qualifying," Rilat said. "We high-tailed it out of (Elma) at 2:30 p.m. and got there at 5:30 p.m."

Rilat qualified eighth quickest and won his heat race to advance to the feature, which he started eighth. Because of approaching weather, the main event was shortened from 25 laps to 20 laps.
"A couple of laps into it we got held back by a car that had all but spun in turn four," he said. "I had to drive to the infield and that put us back about a half a lap."

Rilat maneuvered into the top five on Lap 8 and worked his way to fourth two laps later. With four laps remaining Rilat advanced to third place and started to close on Trey Starks and Jason Solwold, who ran first and second, respectively.

A red flag was waved in the closing laps, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.

"I had a chance to make a move and I did and it didn't wind up good for me or Solwold," Rilat said. "Going into turn three there was contact between my right rear and his left front. It's one of those deals where maybe I shouldn't have went and maybe he should have backed off a bit."

Rilat was unable to continue because of the damage and was relegated to a 13th-place finish.
"We had a car to win it with 20 laps," he said. "With 25 laps, I think we had the car to win."

Rilat is taking the next couple of weeks off before returning on June 14 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas.

"I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.
"He's been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time.
