Hagar Rallies for Runner-Up Result with ASCS Red River at Lucas Oil Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 10, 2016) - Derek Hagar posted a runner-up result last Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway during an ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region co-sanctioned event.

"It was pretty good," he said. "We got behind the eight ball in the winged car starting on the pole in the heat race and not getting any passing points when we won it. That put us 10th in points, but we started eighth because a car in front of us had to change an engine."

Hagar quickly made his way toward the front of the field.

"About Lap 6 we were up to third and had a red flag for the guy running second," he said. "Our car wasn't as great as it needed to be. We caught the leader with about five laps to go, but I had to do a massive slider on a lapped car and lost my momentum."

Hagar held on for the podium finish, which marked his 11th top five of the season.

He also competed in the non-wing portion of the event with the WAR Series. Hagar, who was driving for J.D. Black, won a heat race after starting on the inside of the second row. That lined him up third for the main event.

"We made some changes and were good the first couple of laps," he said. "I got the lead on the start coming off turn two. I probably led two laps. I tried to move my line up and it just didn't work. If I went to the top people passed me on the bottom and if I went to the bottom people would pass me on the top. It was like we flipped a switch. I was getting passed on the top, bottom. It didn't matter. I decided not to tear anything up so we pulled in with about five laps to go."

Hagar was credited with a 14th-place finish.

He will return to action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Hooker Hood Classic. Hagar won the event last year.

"We have high expectations," he said. "Last year we dominated and lapped up to third or fourth place. We had the car rolling pretty good. Hopefully it works out like that again this weekend."

Hanks Extends ASCS Red River Points Lead following Victory at Lucas Oil Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 10, 2016) - Brandon Hanks is becoming familiar with Victory Lane.

Hanks captured his third win of the season - all in the last 11 races - on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway with the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region.

"I'm just glad we were able to overcome all the adversity and still come out on top," he said. "We finally kicked that monkey off our back at Lucas Oil Speedway."

The arrival to the track was anything but positive for Hanks.

"Our generator got fried when we got to the track," he said. "Then our engine heater had problems and it turned out when we hooked it up water started running out between the head and the motor so we had to change the motor."

The two problems didn't hamper Hanks on the track as he charged from seventh to second place during a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.

"I got lucky and drew the pole," he said. "That was a game changer right there. On the initial start Johnny Herrera was able to stay close to me. I got lucky and had a caution off the bat. I was able to get him on the second start. He stayed on my heels the first few laps. About six laps into it Evan Martin hit an infield tire and came up the track. I just about collected him. I barely missed him. Johnny wasn't so lucky and he got caught in it."

Hanks took advantage of clean air on the restart.

"Once I got to traffic I started catching some fast cars and they were running the same line as I was," he said. "I had trouble passing the first lapped car and (Derek) Hagar was running me down. I finally got by the lapper. Once I got by him it was a lot better from there."

Hanks held on for his first career triumph at Lucas Oil Speedway. It also helped him pad the lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings.

Last weekend began on Thursday with Hanks making his debut at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Thursday during the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Hanks won a heat race from the pole position, which ranked him 10th in overall points. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

"I tried to get the first car or two in front of me on the start and that was the wrong thing to do," he said. "When I got off that cushion I lost all the momentum and I lost several spots. I spent the whole race trying to get back where I started. Everybody was running the top line around the track so it was hard to pass. I had a bad start and that cost us."

Hanks posted a 12th-place finish.

He is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Tankersley Sweeps ASCS Gulf South Region Doubleheader to Take Points Lead

Inside Line Promotions - BEAUMONT, Texas (May 10, 2016) - Channin Tankersley enjoyed a dream performance last weekend during an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader.

Tankersley swept the weekend to tie his personal best with two wins in one weekend, which propelled him into the lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.

"That's such a confidence booster," he said. "We've had good speed all year. We've just had a couple of incidents that hampered the results. I think we're finally starting to figure this new car out. We're trying to stay as consistent as we can, but also be fast and a contender every night."

The weekend began on Friday at Heart O' Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, where Tankersley won a heat race from the pole. That locked him into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"Usually that track is either fast or super slick," he said. "Right out of the box it was pretty fast. We freed the car up in the heat race and it was still too tight. We freed the car up for the A Main a lot. We were super quick the first 15 to 18 laps. I was very pleased with how it was going. Then with about seven to 10 laps to go we started slowing down. The track kept getting tighter and tighter. I was really fighting the car. Come to find out we had a dead shock on the left rear so that wasn't helping us on a rough track."

Tankersley held on for his first victory of the season. It also marked the second straight year he's won at Heart O' Texas Speedway.

The team carried that momentum into Saturday's event at Golden Triangle Raceway Park. Tankersley maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race, which put him ninth in points - only one spot out of making the feature redraw.

"We didn't move forward a whole lot the first five or six laps of the main event," he said. "I don't know if everyone was slowing down or we were getting better, but we started going really good. I could run the bottom or the top. I could carry speed. We were able to go wherever we wanted to go.

"We got into a bunch of traffic and to be honest I didn't know where I was at. I didn't know who was leading it. When I got around John Carney II and saw Aaron Reutzel I had five or six laps to go. He was a straightaway ahead and he got into some traffic and got bottled up. We reeled him in from a straightaway to passing him within two or three laps."

Tankersley took advantage in traffic to take the lead in the closing laps. He went on to win for the first time at Golden Triangle Raceway Park since 2011.

Tankersley is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Sides Fights Loose Car throughout Busy Week with World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 10, 2016) - Jason Sides recorded a trio of top-15 finishes last week with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"That'd be good if we were in NASCAR," he joked.

The action began last Wednesday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., where Sides qualified 13th quickest in his group before he advanced from seventh to fourth place during a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

"Myself and Jamie Veal went back and forth for 10th," he said. "We passed each other about a dozen times. On the last lap I ran in behind the ninth-place car trying to protect the bottom. I got slowed down a little and Jamie got a run on the outside and just got by me going into turn three. I missed the bottom and he got that spot."

Sides ended with an 11th-place result.

The competition shifted to Eldora Speedway for a doubleheader beginning on Friday. Sides timed in 11th quickest in his group and placed fifth in a heat race to lock himself into the 18th starting position for the main event.

"I've never seen it that slick," he said. "It was gut slick. We tightened up, but not quite enough. I thought we were going to be a little better than that. I tried following a couple of cars that run well there around the bottom. It was good until about halfway through. It might have sealed the tires off because we couldn't get by anybody after that."

Sides scored a 13th-place finish.

He returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday, when he qualified third quickest in his group before ending third in a heat race - only one spot out of making the dash. That lined Sides up on the inside of the fifth row for the feature.

"The track was slick and had a curb, but it wasn't as slick as the night before," he said. "We didn't tighten up as much thinking it might lay a little rubber where the left rears were dragging through the black. We started off really good and it seemed like we got to eighth and ran there for a while. After a red the car got really loose. The left rear shrunk so we lost about two and a half inches of stagger. That was probably our fault. We had left the air down a bit trying to get some traction on the bottom.

"I feel like we know what we need to do as far as next time. There's a place we can go tighter and make the car feel like it's stuck more. What we did was good and it worked, but we need to go further."

Sides finished 15th.

He will return to action with the World of Outlaws this Friday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

Rilat Charges from 15th to Second at Heart O' Texas with ASCS Gulf South

Inside Line Promotions - BEAUMONT, Texas (May 11, 2016) - Travis Rilat posted his first podium finish at Heart O' Texas Speedway in five years last Friday to highlight his weekend racing with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

Rilat kicked off the doubleheader weekend at the high-banked oval in Waco, Texas, where he advanced from seventh to fifth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the B Main.

"The track was pretty heavy and rough," he said. "I don't think anybody could get their car free enough. We made some wholesale changes for the B Main, which worked out. And then we went further for the A Main."

Rilat won the consolation race to transfer into the 15th starting position for the main event.

"As the fuel burned off the car got faster and faster," he said. "We were able to go where everybody else wasn't able to, which was through the ruts. We came pretty close."

Rilat charged from 15th to second place and he pulled even with the leader entering turn three on the final lap.

"I didn't know whether I had enough room to throw a slider on him or not," he said. "Watching a video of the race I should have. It's tons of fun to have a run like that. That's what brings you back next week."

Rilat's second-place result was his best of the season in the United States and it earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park, where Rilat maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 during the random draw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

"We had a pretty good car," he said. "We for sure could have run second and possibly won that one."

Rilat was running second approximately one third of the way through the feature when a mechanical problem relegated him to the pits. He was credited with a 16th-place result.

Rilat ranks fourth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings and he is only 72 points out of the lead.

He is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Texas World Dirt Track Championships with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
