Tankersley Eyeing Texas Two-Step This Weekend with ASCS Gulf South

Inside Line Promotions - HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 3, 2016) - Channin Tankersley is in the thick of a chase for the ASCS Gulf South Region championship as the region returns to action with a doubleheader this weekend.

Tankersley ranks fourth in the standings and he is only 10 points out of the lead entering events on Friday at Heart O' Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.

"We're pretty confident," he said. "Statistically they have been two of my better tracks. We have a good car and a good motor. I'm looking forward to two solid top fives."

Tankersley won an ASCS Gulf South Region feature at Heart O' Texas Speedway last year and he registered two runner-up results at the track in both 2014 and 2013.

"I race pretty decent in Waco," he said. "We've had a lot of good runs there. I don't know if it's because it's a bullring or what, but we seem to find our way toward the podium there."

Tankersley scored his most recent win at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in 2011.

"At the start of my career that's where I did my best," he said. "Now we're just a top-five car. I don't think the track races like it used to. You used to hammer the top or it had a bottom you could hit. It's really hard to pass up top now because the guys come from the bottom to the top so it takes your run away exiting the corners. We've been working really hard to get our program up to par speed-wise so hopefully that shows this weekend."

Tankersley has earned 11 top-10 finishes in 13 races since his last triumph at the track.

Hagar Hunts Down Fourth Triumph of Season on Heavy Track at Duck River

Inside Line Promotions - LEWISBURG, Tenn. (May 3, 2016) - Derek Hagar capitalized on a late decision to race last weekend by scoring his fourth win of the season.

Hagar tackled the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints event on Saturday at Duck River Raceway Park, where he took advantage of a good pill draw by winning his heat race from the pole position.

"It rained almost from the time we left the house until we got there," he said. "It was a muddy mess. I can't believe they got it in. Normally it blows off, but we got so much rain the track stayed heavy the whole night. We went out with 35 tear offs and we came back in with three and that's with me wiping off some."

Hagar's heat race performance earned him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to line up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"We had a couple of issues on the start," he said. "On the initial start we had a red flag when guys in front of us got together and flipped. We ended up restarting third. We finally got going and got up to second. I was maneuvering around trying to figure out where I could get by the car in front of me. About Lap 9 was the time I figured it out and went to take the lead. Some cars in front of us got squirrely and came down the track. I got into (the leader) and it ended his night and it about ended mine. I hated that it happened, but it was a racing incident."

Hagar survived the incident and restarted with the lead.

"We had a good car in clean air," he said. "It was the best car I've ever had on a heavy race track. We had a caution with four laps to go and on the restart my car started sputtering. We were running out of fuel. I'd go in the corner and it'd cut out and then going down the straightway it was fine. Luckily we had enough fumes to make it to the end."

Hagar lapped up to fifth place during his win, which boosted his lead in the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints championship standings to 49 points approximately a quarter of the way through the season.

Hagar will return to action this Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., with the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region. He will also pilot a non-wing sprint car for J.D. Black during the event.

Busy Week Ahead for Reutzel after Soggy Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (May 4, 2016) – Sitting in the rain all weekend wasn’t exactly the game plan.

But, Mother Nature left Aaron Reutzel and the Shark-powered Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team little option by washing out the weekend’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car events at Oklahoma’s Salina Highbanks Speedway on Friday and then Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Saturday.

It’s time to make up some ground in the race count department.

Which is exactly what Reutzel will do beginning tonight with five races in four days with four different sanctioning bodies in three different cars.  “We’re going Clauson-style this weekend,” Reutzel said in reference to Bryan Clauson’s Circular Insanity Tour pursuit of 200 race events.

The racing frenzy begins on Wednesday night with Reutzel in World of Outlaws Sprint Car action aboard the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions entry at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois.

Making his first appearance at the ¼-mile clay oval in Illinois, Reutzel has already posted a pair of top tens in World of Outlaws competition thus far in 2016 aboard the Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine.

“It will be our first look at the place, hopefully we can have a strong run to kick off the week,” Reutzel commented.

From there, Reutzel continues his defense of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship with Thursday night’s tilt at Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway in the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance Filtration machine.

After a rough start, Reutzel has already climbed back up to eighth in points and is just 74 points off the lead pace going into Thursday’s action.

Reutzel will not only be in Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action on Thursday at Lakeside, but he will be in WAR non-wing Sprint Car competition as well aboard a J.D. Black-owned entry.  Dabbling in the non-wing ranks over the past couple of years, Reutzel notched his first wingless score at Las Cruces in November of 2014.

From Kansas City, Reutzel will head back to his home state of Texas for a pair of ASCS Gulf South Regional events aboard Scottie McDonald’s Sprint Car at Waco’s Heart O’ Texas Speedway on Friday night and then Beaumont’s Golden Triangle Raceway Park on Saturday night.

Looking to add his first ASCS National Tour win of the year after racking up a series’ best seven wins last season, Reutzel has a pair of recent Regional wins to his credit including an Gulf South score at the Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX, and then an ASCS Gulf South vs. ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints triumph at Mississippi’s Jackson Motor Speedway.

It’s a win count he looks to build upon this week.

2016 Quick Stats:  25 races, 2 wins, 6 top-fives, 11 top-tens.

Up Next:

Wednesday - World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Jacksonville (IL) Speedway

Thursday – Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour (ARR No. 87) & WAR Non-Wing Sprint Cars (J.D. Black No. 7jr) at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS

Stopped Short at Callaway – Bellm Ready for Lakeside & Lucas Oil Speedways

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (May 4, 2016) – Coming off his first feature win of the year just seven nights earlier, Kyle Bellm looked to be in prime position for another potential win in Friday night’s ASCS Warrior Region event at Fulton, Missouri’s Callaway Raceway.

Under threatening skies, Bellm advanced from third to second in his heat race and challenged for the win aboard the Resource Asset Management Solutions (RAMS) No. 14k Sprint Car.

“I think we could have slid into the lead, but I didn’t want to push the issue too much,” Bellm commented.  “I knew we were in the redraw either way.”

The Nixa, MO, racer redrew the second row inside and was poised to battle it out for a second win in as many weeks aboard the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision entry.

But, moments before the feature pushed off, the skies opened up and washed out the night for the Schure Built Suspensions/Christian County Collision Repair team.

“Overall we were excited about the night.  We had a really good car, I think we definitely could have had another good finish and possibly another win,” Bellm commented.

With last week’s rain in the rearview, Bellm and the Bybee Lawn Care/Dynotech Racing Engines team are ready to get back into Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action on Thursday night at Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway before another ASCS Warrior Region tilt at Wheatland, Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night.

“We’re looking forward to this weekend, we’re looking for a good run at Lakeside to get back up there in points,” Bellm said.

Last year’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Rookie of the Year, Bellm enters Thursday’s action 12th in points but less than 100 points out of the lead with a good opportunity to advance in the Schaeffer Oil/Pro Designs/Racinboys entry.

“The points are so close right now, we can gain a lot in just a few races,” Bellm comments.  “We’ll be good to go.”

2016 Quick Stats:  8 races, 1 win, 2 top-five, 3 top-tens.

Up Next: Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, on Thursday night then ASCS Warrior Region at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, on Saturday night.

DAVE BLANEY AND MOTTER 71M TEAM HEAD TO ELDORA
FOR A WORLD OF OUTLAWS DOUBLEHEADER

ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 4, 2016) – Dave Blaney and the Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop team are scheduled to hit the dirt with the World of Outlaws this weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway.  In the event, billed as #LetsRaceTwo, the best of the best will battle on the half-mile in a doubleheader Friday and Saturday, May 6-7.

“I grew up in Ohio and I took pride in running at Eldora,” said Blaney.  “The last five years of my active career Eldora was one of my best tracks, but it is very challenging, and not racing there the last couple of years might be difficult.”

Blaney, a humble man with a great sense of humor, took an introspective look
at racing so far this season.

Blaney’s first night out with the Motter team yielded a victory at Volusia Speedway in Florida in February. They competed for five consecutive nights in Florida and didn’t race again until April 22 at Williams Grove, April 23 at Port Royal, Pa. and April 24 at Selinsgrove, Pa.

When asked if getting back into a sprint car was like slipping back into a comfortable pair of shoes, Blaney denied that it was that easy.

“We didn’t have a great night at Williams Grove. The first part of the night at Port Royal wasn’t great either (qualified 29th), but then we got onto something and used that to propel us Sunday.  It was encouraging.  The team is doing a great job.

“And we haven’t been racing as much as most of the other competitors. Everybody else is racing and learning.

“But I’m glad we had a good Saturday and Sunday at Port Royal and Selinsgrove.  It gives us a good baseline going forward.”

In fact the Blaney brothers had the crowd on their feet at Port Royal.  Brother Dale won the event and Dave drove from 24th to finish fourth in a remarkable run.  At Selinsgrove Dave led 28 laps before another driver made a calculated move and robbed the Buckeye Bullet of the victory with two laps to go.

At Eldora, Dave Blaney has worn the Kings Royal crown twice (1993 and 1995).  A review of the World of Outlaws Eldora archives shows that Blaney has a total of six victories at this track, including the Kings Royal titles.

He has 71 World of Outlaws feature victories on his resume and hopes to bring home another trophy this weekend.

Blaney is still mixing sprint car and NASCAR racing, but now he is racing a sprint car schedule that allows him to attend some of 22-year old son Ryan’s NASCAR races. Ryan is hailed by members of the media and the Fox NASCAR broadcast team as one of NASCAR’s future superstars.  Dave says, “Ryan is doing a nice job and he is with a good team. (Ryan is driving the No. 21 Ford Fusion for the Wood Brothers.)  NASCAR is pushing the young guys.  It’s a good spot to be in.”

Dave Blaney is looking for his own good spot to be in at Eldora:  victory lane.
