Ferguson Makes It 3 in a Row – Readies for USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway

Mt. Holly, North Carolina (May 11, 2015) – Chris Ferguson and his CFM Team are busy in their Mt. Holly, North Carolina shop making final preparations to head for Virginia Motor Speedway this Saturday, May 16th for the TireX USA 100. Ferguson is the defending winner of the $10,000 to win ULTIMATE Super Late Model sanctioned event at Bill Sawyer’s big ½ mile facility. After picking up his 2 biggest career triumphs in a pair of World of Outlaws Late Model events 2 weeks ago, Ferguson tacked on a 3rd win in a row with a Carolina Clash win at Cherokee last Saturday night. That momentum has Ferguson at an all-time high point in his career. “I think that we have shown what our potential can be. I cannot say enough about my dad and brother and all of the guys who work on our car. We do a lot with a little and we finally got over that hump of winning in a national event, or well two of them. That is huge for us. It certainly gives us some good momentum heading into the USA 100.” Ferguson said.

Ferguson indeed completed a rare feat when he doubled up and swept both $10,000 to win World of Outlaws events at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, North Carolina and Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina 2 weeks ago. Ferguson became just the 11th driver in the rich history of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series to complete a weekend sweep. That rarefied air also includes national touring stars like Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist and Darrell Lanigan among others. Ferguson’s sweep also stands out because both wins were considered to be a “run the table victory” where Ferguson set fast time both nights, won his heat race each night and led every lap of both feature events.

Ferguson made the decision last weekend to remain close to home and race at nearby Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina for a $4000 to win Carolina Clash sanctioned event. “We considered heading over to Smoky Mountain Speedway where the World of Outlaws were racing again. We have had some success over there but we decided to just stay close to home and race smart. It really paid off for us but we had to work for it. Our team mate Josh Langley had a really good car and he made us earn the win for sure. It was great to be able to race against him. He is really talented and only has a few starts in a Super Late Model so he did an excellent job.” Ferguson added.

Ferguson will now set his sights on becoming the first repeat USA 100 winner since it has been held at Virginia Motor Speedway. Ferguson likes his chances going into what had been the site of his biggest career victory until the World of Outlaws wins. “There will be some really great racers there. There are a lot of really strong guys in that Mid-Atlantic region. Guys like Gregg Satterlee and Jamie Lathroum can win anywhere they unload. So I know it will be tough to repeat and keep our win streak going. But at the same time our car is just so good right now. Our Longhorn has been just flawless. And our Clements Race Engine is really running well. I am more comfortable and confident than I have ever been right now. So I definitely believe that this team can go in there and win it again.” Ferguson concluded.
