Brian Birkhofer Opens 2013 Season with $10,000 Thaw Brawl Victory; Farmer City Next!

(MUSCATINE, IOWA) With an eye on the sky during the wet weekend in the Midwest on March 29-30, the Birkhofer Racing team finally kicked off their highly-anticipated 2013 racing season at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois. The two-day 'Thaw Brawl' started on Friday night with a $2,000 to win UMP DIRTcar Series event. Brian Birkhofer timed in fourth quickest in his group during the qualifying session and later placed fifth in his heat race. Following a B-Main triumph, Brian picked off eleven competitors during the 30-lapper on his way to a sixth place performance in the weekend lid lifter.

On Saturday evening, the #15b team put a whole night together and picked up their first win of the young 2013 racing season! Brian laid down the fourth fastest lap in his group once again during time trials and later scored a heat race victory, which placed him on the outside of the front row for the start of the 50-lap American Late Model Series (ALMS) sanctioned main event. The Muscatine, Iowa star then grabbed the point on the fifth circuit and never looked back in recording the $10,000 victory over Chris Simpson, Brandon Sheppard, Billy Drake, and Austin Hubbard. Full results from the LaSalle double-dip can be viewed online at www.lasallespeedway.com.

"For the first weekend out this year, I was very pleased with how everything went," exclaimed Birkhofer this week. "We had plans of running the NDRL stuff at Paducah and Pevely, but Mother Nature sent us to LaSalle and it all worked out. It was nice to get a win early in the year just to get some confidence in your equipment and a paycheck. Hopefully, we will be in the hunt for another victory this weekend at Farmer City. I have been close a couple of times there, so we will try to break through this weekend."

Next up for the Birkhofer Racing team will be another trip to the Land of Lincoln over the April 5-6 weekend. The 5th Annual 'Illini 100,' sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, will be held at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. Qualifying and heat races are scheduled for Friday night at the 1/4-mile bullring, while consolation events and the 100-lap main event are slated for Saturday evening. A $20,000 top prize has been established for the victor of the extra-distance affair. Brian has been a fixture up front in past 'Illini 100' events, as he finished second in '09, fourth in '10, and fifth in '12. Scott James Takes Second Spring 50 Title; Jumps Back on WOOLMS Tour!

(BRIGHT, INDIANA) Scott James and the Warrior House Car team made a late-week decision to invade the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on Saturday, March 30 and the decision paid off to the tune of a $5,000 'Spring 50' title! The 37th edition of the storied race drew a 27 car field to the 1/2-mile, Cincinnati area venue. Scott laid down the seventh quickest lap during the qualifying session and later ran second in his heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the second row in the unsanctioned main event, Scott sported a fast Warrior racecar from the drop of the green flag.

The popular driver known as the "Silver Shark" grabbed the point from leader Greg Johnson on the eighteenth circuit and despite battling brake issues, Scott held back the stellar field for the remainder of the caution-free race. At the end of 50 laps, Scott found himself in victory lane celebrating with his family and crew after beating Mike Marlar, Greg Johnson, Eddie Carrier, Jr., and Tyler Reddick to the checkers. Full results from the 'Spring 50' can be obtained by clicking on www.florencespeedway.com.

"We made a last minute decision to bring our back-up car to Florence and that thing was awesome all night," quoted James this week via telephone. "I hadn't really driven that car much at all this year, but it was exceptional - aside from the brake issues - and that was one of the more fun races that I can remember in recent years. The track was great, especially for this time of year, so hats off to the Florence Speedway crew. I just have to thank everyone associated with the Warrior House Car team and I am very excited to get back on the Outlaws tour this weekend at Farmer City!"

"The car was fast all weekend and we were able to get another win on Friday night against a strong field of cars. Then on Saturday, we qualified good and ran second in the heat race, but the track didn't seem like it was overly racy and we started sixth and finished seventh. It has been a terrific start to our year and I look forward to getting back on the Lucas Oil trail this weekend in Mississippi and Texas!"

The #28 team will resume the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series schedule this upcoming weekend (April 5-6) with a trip to the Deep South.
