Swindell Enjoys Weekend as a Contender During Dan Laber Memorial at Billings Motorsports Park

Inside Line Promotions - BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 13, 2016) - Sammy Swindell enjoyed his long-awaited return to Montana.

"We were able to spend a couple of days being a tourist," he said. "Amy and I got to play a round of golf and just relax and chill out a couple of days. We stayed at the hotel with Mike Quigley and his family. It made it easy. We made a trip to Beartooth Pass on the way out and we've got three or four days to spend in Jackson Hole, Wyo. It's made a nice couple of weeks for us."

Swindell also raced in "Big Sky Country" for the first time in more than a decade last Friday and Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park, where he piloted a sprint car owned by former World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series driver Tim Gee during the NSA Shootout's Dan Laber Memorial.

"They brought a brand new car," Swindell said. "It was nice and well put together. All we had to do was drop my seat in it. We didn't really have to change anything. We went over the setup and the shocks and that's really all we did."

Swindell kicked off the doubleheader by setting quick time on Friday.

"The car was good right away," he said. "We made some small changes and it got better. I think we had the fastest car all night by setting quick time by about a couple of tenths as the next to last car out. We made a couple of changes on the car and we got a good start in the heat and was able to get right up there."

Swindell advanced from sixth to third place in a heat race, which made him the driver with the most combined points to earn a spot in the feature redraw.

"Unfortunately, I drew the biggest pill (six), but that was ok," he said. "We were able to take right off and get by a few cars. I got up to second and we had something cut the right rear tire. It was a bit unfortunate there. We came back out, but had a mechanical problem and had to pull in."

Swindell had driven from sixth to second place and he was in contention for at least a podium finish when the bad luck struck. He ended with a 14 th-place result.

The team swapped engines prior to Saturday's $7,500-to-win finale.

"That motor was a little different so we had to work on that and get the right gear," he said. "We missed it a little in qualifying, but came back in our heat and was able to win that."

Swindell qualified third quickest before he claimed a heat race win with a late-race pass. Once again he was the highest points earner. This time Swindell pulled the No. 2 during the random redraw to start the 29-lap main event on the outside of the front row.

"We wound up struggling a bit in the main event," he said. "We had an issue with the bottom end of the motor. It didn't pull off the corners like we'd like. As the track got lower and lower it became a disadvantage to us. We ran right with the guys. I could roll the corners better, but when you're behind them you'd have to slow down. With about five laps to go we cut the tire again."

Swindell was running third when he sustained a flat right rear tire. He restarted at the back of the pack and advanced to 14th in the closing laps.

"We had a car that should have been first or second the first night and in the top three on Saturday," he said. "Overall the guys did a great job. Tim and his guys gave me a great car. We just had a few unfortunate things happen, but at least we had a shot at sweeping the event if we had luck go our way.

"I want to thank Tim and his family for the opportunity as well as Mike Quigley, his family and his staff for the hospitality. We had a great time and look forward to going back."

Mark Burch Motorsports and Lasoski Sweep Dan Laber Memorial Doubleheader at Billings Motorsports Park

Inside Line Promotions - BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 13, 2016) - Mark Burch Motorsports travelled more than 14 hours to last weekend's Dan Laber Memorial seeking its first win of the season.

The team returned home from the NSA Shootout doubleheader at Billings Motorsports Park with a pair of victories, including Saturday's $7,500-to-win finale.

"We've run well this season, but just were unable to get over the hurdle and win a race," said Danny Lasoski, who has driven for the team since 2011. "It was a long trip to Montana so it was great to bring back a couple of wins."

The weekend opened on Friday with Lasoski qualifying third quickest before he placed fifth in a heat race. That ranked him ninth in overall points and lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

After falling to 10th on the opening lap, Lasoski charged into third place when a caution came out on Lap 11. He maneuvered into the runner-up position a lap after the restart and tracked down the leader, Jake Bubak, in traffic during the closing laps.

Lasoski took the lead down the backstretch with two laps remaining, but a lapped car slid into his lane. That forced Lasoski to power through the middle in turn four as he beat Bubak to the start-finish line as the white flag was being waved. Lasoski pulled away on the final lap to give the team its first triumph of the season.

"It's very rewarding to win, especially after starting in the middle of the pack," he said. "Mark works so hard and it was just him and me this weekend working on the car so it was the perfect way to start the weekend."

The team returned to the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday for the finale, which began with Lasoski qualifying fifth quickest. He advanced from third place to win a heat race and lock himself into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 during the random draw to start the 29-lap main event on the pole.

"It was an advantage to get the track position from the start," he said. "With Sammy Swindell starting on the outside of the front row I knew it'd be important to take the lead right away and we did."

Lasoski led all 29 laps to score his second straight triumph.

"I want to thank (Billings Motorsports Park Owner) Mike Quigley, his family and his staff for putting on a great event and inviting us to participate," he said. "We had a great time and look forward to getting back there whenever we can."

Additionally, Mark Burch Motorsports would like to thank everyone who supported the Team Jack Foundation by purchasing a unique t-shirt. All sales of the apparel will go to the Team Jack Foundation. The t-shirts are available at each race Mark Burch Motorsports contests throughout the season.

The Team Jack Foundation was established to raise money to fund impactful pediatric brain cancer research and to create national awareness for the disease. They met in September 2011 and a friendship was born, which was also featured on ESPN. Burkhead's support earned him the Rare Disease Champion Award presented by Uplifting Athletes.

As of January 2014, the Team Jack movement has raised $2.5 million and counting for pediatric brain cancer research. The Team Jack Foundation is working with world renowned researchers, directly, to develop relevant and impactful research initiatives.

Bergman Posts Two Top Fives at Billings Motorsports Park's Dan Laber Memorial

Inside Line Promotions - BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 13, 2016) - Seth Bergman recorded two top-five finishes on the same weekend for the first time in seven weeks last Friday and Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park during the NSA Shootout's Dan Laber Memorial.

"It's been a struggle this year and we haven't produced the results we've expected so it was nice to put together back-to-back top fives," he said. "Our expectation is to run up front and be a contender, which we were last weekend. It was a fun weekend in Montana and I'm looking forward to the next time I can return to Billings Motorsports Park."

Bergman opened the event on Friday by qualifying fifth quickest before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

"We battled between third and fifth the whole race," he said. "There were a handful of us who were right there and in the closing laps the top four were all within contention for the win. Track position was key and we needed a break or two in traffic that we didn't get."

Bergman finished fourth, which gave the team momentum entering Saturday's $7,500-to-win finale.

Bergman qualified sixth quickest and he picked up a position in a heat race to place second. That locked him into the feature redraw. This time he ended with the second-highest number - five - to start the 29-lap main event on the inside of the third row.

"Track position was the biggest factor and we didn't have luck on our side with that," he said. "Passing was tough so I was pleased to end with a podium."

Bergman gained two positions to post a third-place finish, which was his 20th top five of the season.

He is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the Ralph Henson Memorial.

Chase Junghans Focused on Knoxville this Weekend

Manhattan, Kansas (09/13/16) – After a one-week break Chase Junghans will return to competition this weekend, September 15-17 in the 13th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. The three-day, crown jewel event posts more than $50,000 in just first-place money over the course of the three-day affair.

“This is one of my favorite events of any season, and that’s why we took last weekend off to make sure we were ready for it,” said Junghans. “Since we dropped off the World of Outlaws tour a few weeks ago, we’ve just been going back through our car and our program, making sure everything is right. In this sport if you are just a little off with your program you can’t be competitive. I think we are now pointed back in the right direction.”

Junghans was last in action over the course of the Labor Day weekend in a trio of regional events. He raced to a runner-up finish with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) on Friday, September 2 before finishing 5th with the Lucas Oil MLRA at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) the next night. He closed out the weekend with a Mid America Racing Series (MARS) Super Late Model event at Monett Speedway on Sunday, September 4, where he retired early to a 20th-place finish.

“We struggled a bit there at Monett, but apart from that we really had a good car all weekend,” said Junghans. “We came up a little short of the win at Lakeside Speedway, and that’s one of the best runs I’ve had at Lucas Oil Speedway. It definitely gives us some confidence heading into Knoxville.”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals open on Thursday and Friday with a pair of $7,000-to-win events. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) draws to a close on Saturday evening with a $40,000-to-win finale at the famed, ½-mile oval. Sides Highlights West Coast Swing With Sixth-Place Result in Oregon

Inside Line Promotions - CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2016) - Jason Sides powered to five top-15 finishes during the final West Coast swing of the season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

The action began on Sept. 2 at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where he qualified 14th quickest and finished sixth in a heat race before advancing from 17th to 12th in the main event.

"The track was a little rough," he said. "They did the best they could with the amount of rain they had. It was really rough the first night and it was a survival race. The next night was a lot harder and slicker than the night before. It was better racing. There were a couple of holes you had to dodge though."

Sides returned to the high-banked oval the ensuing night and he timed in 11th quickest, finished fourth in a heat race and again ended 12 th in the feature.

The team then ventured to the lone stop in Oregon on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, where Sides qualified third quickest and recorded a runner-up result in a heat race to lock himself into the dash. He placed fifth in the dash before closing the night with a sixth-place finish in the main event.

"The track got really good for the feature," he said. "We were right on the bottom. I ran fifth the entire race until three laps to go. I ran in behind (Daryn) Pittman and lost the front end and I think that's what allowed (David) Gravel to catch up. He had a run around the top and got by me so we ended up sixth."

Sides tackled the Gold Cup last weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway. Racing began on Friday when he qualified 26th quickest, finished seventh in a heat race and drove to third in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 23rd to 14 th in the feature.

The doubleheader concluded on Saturday at the quarter-mile oval with Sides timing in 17th quickest before he finished fourth in a heat race and 15th in the main event.

"We were happy to finish the races both nights, load the car up in one piece and get on the road," he said.

Sides is slated to compete with the World of Outlaws this Wednesday at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo.; Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout; and Saturday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., for the FVP Missouri High-Banked Nationals.
