Choate And Kennedy Find Victory Lane At Crossville

Crossville, TN (April 19th, 2014) - Crossville Raceway was back in action Saturday night, and once again the drivers put on one heck of a show for the fans. During the intermission, the 2013 season was celebrated, as the top drivers in each class received their trophies. Seeing men with their trophies, that they worked hard for each and every weekend during the racing season last year was a great sight.

The Late Models ran twin 15-lap features on this night. The cars qualified to set the lineup for the heat races. In qualifying, it was Sunbright's #K37 Drew Kennedy setting fast time with a lap of 13.08. After qualifying, Kennedy drew a 5, meaning that the 2nd feature would invert the top five drivers from the 1st feature. Two heat races were ran for the Late Models, and in heat #1 it was Kennedy taking the win, with #27 Buddy Knox, and #20 Mike Selby rounding out the top three. Heat race #2 was won by #5J Jesse Lowe, with #8P Ronnie Choate, and #12 Jeremy Holtzclaw rounding out the top three.

Feature #1 was lined up the way that the drivers finished in the heat races. In a race with only two cautions, Kennedy, driving the Rocket Chassis/Vic Hill Race Engine car, sponsored by Schubert Monument Sales, Kilby Equipment, Superior Telecom, Wendell’s Market & Deli, and Outlaw Graphics, drove a smooth race and came out with the win. Lowe was second, Knox was third, Choate came in forth, and #25, Jeff Walker rounded out the top five.

Feature #2 saw the invert come into play, and this put Walker on the pole position. At the start of the 15 lap feature Choate took the lead with Walker running in second. On lap 9, Knox took over third from Lowe. Lap 12, Lowe regained third from Knox. Meanwhile up front, it was all Choate as he went wire to wire, in his GRT Chassis/Kerry Harris Race Engine hot rod, sponsored by Precision Auto Body, Dependable Auto Sales, and Luna Motorsports, for his first ever Late Model win. Walker finished second, Lowe was third, Knox fourth, and Kennedy rounded out the top five.

In the Sportsman Class, #2 Daniel Young captured the win, followed by #25G George Willis, and #J37 Jack Conley. Conley won the heat race.

The Street Stock Class saw a blast from the past, as #20 Sam Baisley cruised to the win. He was followed by #84T Justin Turner. Baisley won the heat race.

In the Hornet Class, #J27 JD Rector, took the lead at the start of the 20 lap feature. #C4 Eddie Brown, was running second, and #5K Kealey Lowe, was third. On lap 11, Brown took the lead from Rector, on the same lap, #87 Andy Osborne took third from Lowe. On lap 12, #J96 John Withers took third from Osborne. On lap 17, Withers got by Rector for second. Up front, it was all Brown as he cruised to his first win of the year. Withers finished second, Rector third, Osborne forth, and Lowe rounded out the top five. Withers and Rector won the heat races.

Bryan Bourke, #10, took the lead in the Legend Class feature race. #18 Jim Bourke was running second, and #97 Zack Dunsmore was third. On lap 14 Dunsmore slipped by Jim Bourke for second. Dunsmore was not finished as he took the lead from Bryan Bourke on lap 19, and then led the remaining two laps for the win. Bryan Bourke finished second, Jim Bourke was third, #26 Ben Emerson was fourth, and #32 Stew Podasso rounded out the field in fifth. Jim Bourke won the heat race.

In the dwarf class, #7 Shaun Thomas took the lead at the start of the 20 lap feature, followed by #00 Ron Dodson, and #77 Ty Bowman in third. On lap two, #15 Larry Garrison took third away from Bowman, and on lap 3, #65 Joseph Underwood took fourth place away from Bowman. On lap 8, Garrison and Underwood got by Dodson for second and third. On lap 14, Underwood got by Garrison for second. Thomas, was in his own time zone as he cruised to the easy win. Underwood finished second, Garrison third, Dodson fourth, and Bowman rounded out the top five. Thomas won the heat race.

In the Jr. Hornet class, #90 Lukas Presley, took the win after starting last on the field. #H95 Hunter Withers was second, #25JR Colton Akins was third, and #55 Alex Woody rounded out the field in fourth. Withers took the heat race win.

Mini Stocks were run on this night, and #25, Derik Duggan took the win, followed by #52,Dan Duggan, and #10, Marcus Thompson, finishing third. Derik Duggan won the heat race.
