Austin Hubbard Wins One for Huey at Bedford

Seaford, Delaware (06/03/14) - Austin Hubbard scored an emotional $4,000 victory on Sunday night at Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pennsylvania) in his #11 Trinity Logistics/Mastersbilt by Huey/Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model. It was a victory especially dedicated to one person.

“This one’s for Huey,” said Hubbard, whose four-race-old MasterSbilt by Huey machine sported a specially-designed wrap memorializing the late Huey Wilcoxon. “It means a lot for me to win in a car that you could say was the last car he worked on in his shop.”

Austin Hubbard competed in the opening round of the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek (AMS) Series on Friday night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pennsylvania). Forty-three entries were on hand for the $4,000-to-win race, and Hubbard locked into main event via a third place finish in heat race action. In the main event he raced to a third place finish behind race winner, Tim McCreadie, and Tim Fuller. Vic Coffey and Mike Lupfer rounded out the top five finishers.

Saturday night took the team to Hagerstown Speedway (Hagerstown, Maryland) for the second round of the AMS, which also posted a $4,000 top prize, and once again saw forty-three entries for battle. The night started on a sour note as Hubbard was penalized for jumping the start while his heat race. He went on to finish fifth in his heat race and eighteenth in the feature rundown.

The tour rolled into Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pennsylvania) on Sunday evening. With thirty-seven cars entered it would prove to be an exceptional night for the team. Austin qualified for the front row of the $4,000-to-win finale and led all 40 laps en route to his first victory of 2014, which came over Vic Coffey, Jeff Rine, Jason Covert, and Rick Eckert.

The Appalachian Mountain Speedweek tour drew to a close on Monday night at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania). Forty-one Super Late Models registered for the $4,000-to-win program, and Austin earned a spot in the evenings redraw via preliminary action. After starting fourth in the main event Hubbard settled to a sixth place finish in the final rundown behind race winner, Tim McCreadie, Rick Eckert, Jamie Lathroum, Tim Fuller, and Dan Stone.

Austin finished fourth in the final miniseries standings. Full results from the events and the final standings are available at www.LMSSpeedweek.com .

Fulton, MS (06/03/14) – Eric Cooley powered his #33b Bryson Motorsports/Barry Wright/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first triumph of 2014 on Saturday night with a victory at Moulton Speedway.

Eric Cooley entered a Weekly Racing Series event at Moulton Speedway (Moulton, Alabama) on Saturday night in his #33b Bryson Motorsports Super Late Model. Fifteen entries were on hand for the program, and Eric started his outing by charging to fast time honors during qualifications, which earned him the pole position for the finale. Cooley went on to lead flag-to-flag in the feature for his first victory of the 2014 season.

"I hate that it took almost until the middle part of the year to get our first win, but the reality is because of a busy work schedule we just haven't had the chance to race that much," said Cooley. "We've got some big money shows coming up around the house so hopefully we can capitalize on those in the coming weeks."

Eric will likely not race anywhere this coming weekend as he sets his sights on the annual Clash at the Mag, which will be held June 12th-14th at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). Cleveland, Tennessee (06/03/14) – Riley Hickman just keeps winning in 2014 and his latest triumph came in his #R1 BIF Motorsports/Hickman Manufacturing Company/CVR  Late Model at North Georgia Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia).

Riley Hickman Racing visited North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) on Friday night for a Weekly Racing Series program in the Steel Head Late Model division. Hickman qualified third overall to lock into the main event.  During the finale he waged a fierce battle with early leader, Ronnie Johnson before assuming the point at Johnson's misfortune.  Hickman inherited the lead after Johnson suffered from terminal issues, and led the remaining laps for the victory.  The victory marked his sixth of the 2014 campaign.  Full results from the event are available at www.NorthGASpeedway.net .

Saturday night found the team pitted at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for a $5,000-to-win event with the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series.  Unfortunately, the event was nixed by rain just before hot laps got underway.  As a result, the team headed to Boyd's Speedway just in time to tag the tail of the feature in the Crate Late Model.  Hickman charged from his 24th starting spot to a solid sixth place finish.  Complete results can be found at www.BoydsSpeedway.net .

The team's plans for the upcoming weekend are still up in the air.  If they get their trailer back from prepare they may travel to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 20th Annual Dirt Late Model Dream.  However, if repairs aren't completed Hickman will enter the Bill Ingram Memorial at Dixie Speedway.  For the latest information Riley Hickman Racing schedule updates, please visit www.RileyHickman.com .

Two More Top Fives for Reutzel – Unbeaten Streak at I-30 on the Line!

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (June 3, 2014) – With an eye now turned on keeping an unbeaten streak alive this coming weekend, Aaron Reutzel reeled off another pair of top-five feature runs in Lucas Oil ASCS National action this past weekend in Kansas and Nebraska to stay in the thick of the championship points battle.

The Clute, TX, shoe drove the Stafford Performance-powered Bob and Christie Miller’s Car Parts Machine/Wren Motorsports No. 87 Triple-X chassis to a fifth-place finish at Salina Speedway in Kansas on Friday night before racing to fourth in Saturday night’s Eagle Nationals at Nebraska’s Eagle Raceway.

With top-five runs in 13 of his last 15 feature starts, Reutzel continues his pursuit of ASCS National glory this weekend with a first-time visit to Tennessee’s Lexington 104 Speedway on Friday before a return to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.  Reutzel is two-for-two in reaching victory lane at I-30 Speedway thus far in 2014.

While slightly disappointed with a fifth-place finish in Friday’s slide job festival at Salina, Reutzel salvaged a fourth-place showing at Eagle with an ill-handling machine to make for another solid weekend.

Reutzel’s weekend started with action at Salina, KS, on Friday.

“It was all up top, you had to slide to pass people and you had to slide them at the right time to keep your momentum,” Reutzel explained of Friday’s main event at Salina.

“Hafertepe started sliding me on a restart, so after that I had to slide Loyet on restarts and he’d cross me over, it went on from there with them and then Herrera and Bruce.”

While Reutzel ultimately crossed the stripe a solid fifth aboard the Momentum Racing Suspensions/Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine in the frenzied affair, he had hoped for more.

“The car was about perfect,” Reutzel says.  “We should have run at least second so I was a little disappointed with fifth.  It was still a really good night though.”

Moving on to Nebraska’s Eagle Raceway for the TBJ Promotions Eagle Nationals on Saturday, Reutzel was on the move early from his eighth starting position in the Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/BC Fundz/Wright Way Logistics machine, making his way up to third in short order and challenging Johnny Herrera for second.

But it wasn’t going to last.

“The track fooled us,” Reutzel explains.  “The track started getting wide and slicking up before the feature but it was really rough.  They tilled the hole in turn two so we kept the car free not knowing exactly what it was going to do, but then the track went away really fast.”

After making a quick charge up to third, the handle soon went away.

“I rode in third a while, after 12 to 15 laps though I was just hanging on, the car was way too loose,” Reutzel said.

Reutzel held on quite well, posting a fourth-place finish to stay within 76 points of the lead.

“I really thought we’d drop back to probably tenth or so,” Reutzel explains.  “To run fourth that night, I was really happy with that.”

Running his season totals to 16 top-fives and 21 top-tens in 27 starts, Reutzel can’t help but be pleased with the team’s success thus far in 2014.

“I couldn’t be more proud of how this team is going this year,” Reutzel says.  “With all of Bob and Christie Miller’s help and Ryan Beechler working on the car, it’s been a great year, we couldn’t ask for much more.”

Gaining ground in the ASCS National points chase is still a chore, even with four top-fives in the last five events.

“It’s so hard to gain points, even with top-fives, the guys that finish ahead of us are the ones already ahead of in points,” Reutzel explains.  “We just have to keep working at it.”

Reutzel and crew will keep working at it this weekend at Lexington 104 Speedway on Friday and I-30 Speedway on Saturday.

“I’ve never been to Lexington 104, never even seen a picture of it,” Reutzel explains of the 3/8-mile dirt oval in Tennessee.

I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR, is a different story however, as less than two months ago, on April 12, Reutzel picked off his first career ASCS National win and first of five overall wins thus far in 2014.  Reutzel added another score atop the ¼-mile clay oval on May 10 to make it two-for-two in Little Rock.

“We haven’t been beat there yet this year, hopefully we can keep it that way Saturday night,” Reutzel says of I-30 Speedway.

2014 Quick Stats:  27 races, 5 wins, 16 top-fives, 21 top-tens, 5 heat race wins, 3 “B” Main wins.

Up Next: Lucas Oil ASCS National action on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, TN, and then on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR.

Jason Rauen Tackles Farley for First Win of 2014

Farley, Iowa (06/03/14) - Jason Rauen parked his brand new #98 Rauen Motorsports/Black Diamond Late Model in victory lane on Friday night at Farley Speedway in an IMCA Late Model event.

Jason Rauen enjoyed an excellent outing on Friday night at Farley Speedway (Farley, Iowa).  An IMCA Weekly Racing Series program was contested and Jason dominated the event for his first victory of the 2014 season.  A field of twenty-one Super Late Models registered for battle, and a heat race win positioned Rauen on the pole for the finale with Curt Marks alongside. When the feature went green, Jason assumed the point and led flag-to-flag for the win over Luke Goedert, Kyle Neels, Jerry King, and Tyler Bruening.

"This new Black Diamond Chassis is really stout, and I'm definitely excited about the possibilities for this season," said Rauen after claiming his first victory of the 2014 season.

Full results from the event are available at www.SimmonsPromotionsInc.com .

Earlier in the week Rauen had a near miss at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) in a $3,000-to-win, Deery Brothers Summer Series event.  Twenty-four Super Late Models were on hand for the event, and a second place finish in heat race action positioned Rauen starting fourth in the main event.  In the feature Jason used lap traffic to his advantage late in the race to make a bid for the lead from early leader, Ray Guss Jr.  Rauen made the pass on Guss on the 31st circuit when Guss was slowed by a lap car.  The yellow light came on as Rauen and Guss were coming to the white flag.  The duo would swap the lead after the restart before a slight bobble by Rauen opened the door again for Guss on the final circuit.  Once out front, Guss went to the high line and sped to the checkers while Rauen settled into second.  Joel Callahan, Andy Eckrich, and Terry Neal rounded out the top five finishers.  Full results from the event are available at www.IMCA.com .

After losing an IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series event to rain on Tuesday night at Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa), the team now turns its attention to the next series event on June 10th at Cedar County Raceway (Tipton, Iowa).

Jason Rauen would like to thank all of his sponsors including Rauen Precision Machinery, Black Diamond Race Cars, Burco Farms & Tractor Sales, H-D Trucking, Simon’s Trucking, Pro Power Racing Engines, Cornett Race Engines, Motion Industries, Loctite, Imperial Stone, Wemzel’s Towing, Ruf Equipment, M-K Matic, VP Racing Fuels, Bell Picture Frames, B&B Racing Engines, Tri-State Polishing, X-Treme Graphics By J-Rod, and MSRMafia.com Marketing Services.
