Shane Clanton Conquers Little Valley; Busy Labor Day on Tap

Zebulon, Georgia (08/26/14) - After seeing a flat tire end his chances at a win on Friday night Shane Clanton bounced back on Sunday evening in his #25 Weldbank Energy/Capital Race Car/Clements Race Engine Super Late Model to claim the $3,000 win at Little Valley Speedway.

Weekend action opened on Friday night at I-96 Speedway (Lake Odessa, Michigan) as thirty-four entries registered for the $10,000-to-win program. Shane started his night strong by setting fast time honors not only in his group but also overall. In addition his 16.000 second lap around the 3/8 mile marked a new track record at the reconfigured oval. A dominating heat race win earned him a spot in the redraw, where he received the second starting spot on the feature grid. When the race went green, Clanton assumed the point over pole sitter, Curtis Roberts. Clanton set the pace out, and looked to be well on his way to his first WoO victory of the season. Unfortunately, disaster struck for Shane on lap 42 when he blew a right rear tire. With just eight laps remaining his night came to an early end as he retired to a disappointing fifteenth place finish in the final rundown.

Action shifted to Merritt Speedway (Merritt, Michigan) on Saturday night for another $10,000-to-win race. Thirty-four competitors filled the pit are at the oval, and Clanton used a third place finish in the third heat race to lock into the eleventh starting spot for the finale. In the 50 lap main event, Shane advanced to a seventh place finish.

Shane is currently seventh in the latest WoO standings. Full results and the latest series' standings are available at www.WoOLMS.com

The team entered an unsanctioned $3,000-to-win program at Little Valley Speedway (Little Valley, New York) on Sunday evening. With seventeen entries in the pits, Shane raced to the third starting spot in the feature via his preliminary efforts. The Zebulon, Georgia ace took over the top spot on a lap two restart, and dominated the remainder of the 30 lap feature to score the win over Dick Barton, Mike Knight, Bump Hedman, and Greg Oaks. Full results from the event can be found at www.LittleValleySpeedway.com

"Friday night was a heartbreaker, for sure, but sometimes it happens," said Clanton. "However, if anything it showed us that this new car is really phenomenal, and it gave our whole team a lot of much-needed confidence.  That was a big factor in our dominant performance at Little Valley."

Ashley Newman Powers to $2k Victory at Corinth

Ripley, Tennessee (08/26/14) – Ashley Newman powered his #73 Upton Motorsports/45 Race Shop/Bob Pierce Late Model to victory lane for the second straight week on Saturday evening with a $2,000 triumph at North Mississippi Motor Park (Corinth, Mississippi) in the Limited Late Model division.

Via his performance in preliminary action Ashley earned the outside-front-row starting spot for the main event, but fell back to fourth at the drop of the green flag. Newman had moved back to third before he took down the barrier in turns one and two, sending him to the tail of the field.
He climbed through the field and was soon back in striking distance for the top spot. Terminal issues on the leader would relinquish the point to Newman with fifteen laps remaining. He went unchallenged in the closing laps to score the win over Brandon Shaw, Bryant Marsh, Creighton Melms, and Danny Christian. The victory marked his seventeenth of the season.

"It was a pretty crazy night to say the least," laughed Newman. "I kept my composure though, and we were able to claw our way to the win. Again I have to thank the Uptons and all of my fans and sponsors for their great support."

Meanwhile Kyle Beard entered a pair of Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Model events over the weekend. Action opened on Friday night as the tour made its first visit to North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama) since 2008. Twenty-three Super Late Model Models registered for the $3,000-to-win program, and a second place finish in his b-main earned Kyle the tenth starting spot on the feature grid. During the course of the 50 lap main event, Beard advanced five positions to finish fifth behind race winner, Bub McCool, Chris Wall, Josh Putnam, and Eric Cooley.

On Saturday night, action shifted to Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for another $3,000-to-win race. The entry list increased to twenty-four, and Beard started his outing by qualifying fourth fastest in his group during time trials, sending him to the dash. An eighth place finish in the dash earned Kyle the eighth starting spot for the finale. Unfortunately, Beard was forced to retire early from the 50 lapper, resulting in a disappointing eighteenth place finish in the final rundown.

The Labor Day weekend will find both Upton Motorsports pilots in action. Dale McDowell Streaks to Scorcher Win at Volunteer

Welcome, North Carolina (08/26/14) – Dale McDowell piloted his #17m TDR/Warrior/ECR Racing Engine Super Late Model to the $10,000 win on Thursday night in the Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway.

It was back to business on Thursday night for Dale McDowell and Team Dillon Racing. Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) was the destination for a $10,000-to-win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) program.

Twenty-seven Super Late Models filled the pit area at the lightning fast 4/10 mile oval. Dale timed in fifth fastest overall during qualifications, positioning him starting second in his heat race. McDowell stormed to the heat race win over Chris Madden, earning him the outside-front-row starting spot for the 50 lap finale, alongside Scott Bloomquist.

Bloomquist assumed the point at the drop of the green flag, but slowed in turn four with just two laps scored, causing a multi-car wreck behind him. With only minor damage to his #17m, McDowell then inherited the top spot, and went unchallenged for the next 48 circuits to take the checkered flag ahead of Mike Marlar, John Blankenship, Bloomquist, and Jared Landers.  The victory marked his seventh of 2014.

“Our night didn’t start off so well, but we made some changes and the car was fast all night after that," said McDowell following his first LOLMDS victory since September 4th, 2010 at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio).

“I want to thank everyone with Team Dillon Racing, my brother Shane, and everybody else on the crew. This Warrior Race Car handled so well tonight. The track was in really good shape; fortunately we didn’t encounter any lapped traffic tonight. It feels good to be back in Lucas Oil Victory Lane, it has been a while," he added.

Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com

The team will not race anywhere this weekend as McDowell turns his attention to the 44th Annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio), which will be held September 4th-6th at the famed oval.  McDowell will pursue his second-career title in the mega event.
