Shane Clanton Claims Emotional Win in Billy Clanton Memorial

Zebulon, Georgia (07/07/15) –Shane Clanton has enjoyed a phenomenal 2015 season thus far in his Weldbank Energy #25 Capital/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model, and on Saturday night it became even more special when he claimed the win in the Billy Clanton Memorial, which paid homage to his late father.

“We’ve had a tremendous year so far, and we’ve won some big races, but this one right here is the most special,” an emotional Clanton said in victory lane. “To win the race that carries my dad’s name is really something, and it’s a victory that I wanted really badly.” He concluded by saying, “This win is for all of my family, friends, and fans here tonight.”

On Saturday night Shane Clanton made the short trip to Senoia Raceway (Ringgold, Georgia) to take part in the Billy Clanton Memorial, which was sanctioned by the Southern Nationals Bonus Series. With rain in the forecast, Shane started the night by registering the fastest time in qualifying, which locked him into the pole for the feature. The finale found Shane cruising to his eleventh victory of the season with Joe Armistead Jr., Mark Whitener, Clint Smith, and Austin Smith rounding out the top five. Clanton captured a $4,025 payday for his efforts in the A-Main event that was shortened six laps due to the weather.

Shane Clanton now turns his attention to resuming pursuit of his first-career World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) crown. He currently leads the latest WoO standings by 184 markers over his closest pursuer as the tour prepares for the annual Wild West Tour, which will see five $10,000-to-win, events contested five events contested in ten days. Mason Zeigler Passes Everybody for $4,000 Hesston Payday

Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania (07/07/15) – Mason Zeigler made a guest appearance in the Bryan Klinedinst #43 Rocket Super Late Model at Hesston Speedway (Hesston, Pennsylvania) on Thursday evening, and he didn’t disappoint as he claimed the $4,000 payday in thrilling fashion.

Zeigler initially rolled off the grid in the 16th starting spot, but an early race tangle sent him to the tail. What race fans witnessed during the remainder of the 50 lap affair was nothing short of spectacular. The Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania driver motored his way from the 29th position to the lead with just seven laps remaining. He went on to score the victory over Dan Stone, Jerry Bard, Justin Kann, and Andy Haus. The win was his first of the season.

“Wow this is just unbelievable,” commented Zeigler after the race. “I knew we had a great car, but when I went to the tail I don’t know if I would’ve ever dreamed I could come back and win. I just have to thank the Klinedinst family for the opportunity to drive this great race car, and I hope the fans got their money’s worth tonight.”

While rain hampered the majority of Mason’s remaining plans for the weekend, he was able to compete at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio) on Saturday evening. He hopped back in the driver’s seat of the GottaRace.com #25z Longhorn/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model. With 37 entries signed in for the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series (LOLMDS) event, Zeigler logged a 4th place finish in his heat edging his way into the Independence 50 feature event. Starting in 10th, Mason Zeigler fell back in the 50-lap A-Main to record a 16th place exit.

Jason Hughes Snares MARS Checkers at Monett; Mega 100 Next

Westville, Oklahoma (07/07/15) – Jason Hughes added another accolade to his career by claiming his first-career victory with the Mid America Racing Series (MARS) DIRTCars Super Late Models on Thursday evening at Monett Speedway.

Jason Hughes made the trip to Monett Speedway (Monett, Missouri) on Thursday night for a MARS DIRTcar Series (MARS) event, where he piloted the Tommy Weder Jr. #02H Bloomquist/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model. With 28 entries signed in for the John Kuntz Memorial, Jason logged a heat race victory positioning him at the front of the grid for the feature event. Battling for $3,000 payday in the Andy’s Frozen Custard A-Main, Jason Hughes captured his first Super Late Model victory of the season with Justin Asplin, Terry Philips, Tony Jackson Jr., and Brandon McCormick completing the top five.

On Friday night Jason visited Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Oklahoma) to compete in the two day show sanctioned by both MARS and Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). In a field of 31 Super Late Models, Hughes earned his way into the Freedom Classic with a 4th place outing in his heat. Battling for a $3,000 paycheck, Jason Hughes recorded an 8th place finish when the checkers flew at the end of the 30-lapper.

The following night the winner’s check was increased to $5,000 dollars, but Hughes wouldn’t have as good of luck as he fell back in the 40-lap Freedom Classic. Following a 3rd place finish in his heat, Hughes logged a 23rd place outing in the Andy’s Frozen Custard A-Main hosted by the MLRA and MARS.

“It was great to get the win at Monett,” noted Hughes. “I can’t thank Tommy (Weder) enough for letting me drive one of his cars. He gave me a great piece, and we were able to capitalize on the opportunity.”

Riley Hickman Conquers the Hornet’s Nest; UCRA at Boyd’s Next

Cleveland, Tennessee (07/07/15) – Riley Hickman was able to outrun Mother Nature and a strong field of foes to once again park the CVR House Car #1V Late Model in victory lane on Thursday night with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.

Competing in his CVR House Car #1V Crate Late Model, Riley Hickman made the trip on Thursday evening to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) for another round of action in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. 

With forty entries on hand for the Salute to America Nationals event, Hickman laid down the fastest time in qualifying at the 1/3 mile oval, known as the “Hornet’s Nest.” Following the preliminary action, Riley went on to lead every lap of the 40-lap feature event grabbing a $2,000 payday. Riley ousted Ronnie Johnson, Cruz Skinner, Josh Adkins, and Eric Cooley to register his ninth victory of the season.

Unfortunately Mother Nature would wash away the scheduled NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series events at Penton Raceway (Penton, Alabama) and East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama) on Friday and Saturday evening.

“I again want to thank the folks at CVR Race Cars for letting me drive their hot rod,” said Hickman. “The car performance flawlessly and was just a blast to drive.”

Ricky Weiss Tames Two More Wins; Tripleheader Up Next

On Thursday night Ricky Weiss traveled to Red River Co-Op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) to take part in another Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) Event. With a car count of 17 Super Late Models, Ricky added another victory to his red-hot win streak. Following a heat race win, Weiss held off Dustin Strand, Mike Balcaen, Brad Seng, and Cole Schill to score the victory and the $1,100 paycheck.

On Friday night Ricky Weiss made the trip to I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) looking to capture his fifth victory in a row in his Derrick's Sandblasting #7 Bloomquist/Pro Power Racing Late Model. Ricky scored a heat race win setting him up for the feature event. After the invert, the 9th starting Weiss charged to the victory, which marked his thirteenth of the season, ousting Eric Breeschoten, Brady Johanneck, Cody Skytland, and Shawn Meyer.
