Herrera Happy with Pair of Podiums at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (May 16, 2016) - Johnny Herrera is riding a hot streak right now during Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition.

Herrera capitalized on a pair of podium finishes last weekend during the Texas World Dirt Track Championships at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track to extend his lead in the ASCS National Tour championship standings.

"We'll take it," he said. "Of course we want to win, but at the same time if you can't get the win you've got to get what you can. Racing is a lot about momentum. Right now we're on a good wave. We're in contention and we're fast every night. We're going to ride that out and continue to do what we're doing."

Last weekend began on Friday with Herrera advancing from second to win a heat race and from third to claim a qualifier. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the 20-lap main event.

"We had a great car all night long," he said. "Unfortunately, we lost a Jacobs Ladder around Lap 8 to 10. One of the pins fell out. I didn't know exactly what happened, but it was bad. I got to a point where I decided to try to get locked in (to Saturday's main event by finishing in the top four) rather than focus on the win."

Herrera was able to hang on for a third-place result, which was good enough to give him a spot in Saturday's feature redraw. He pulled the No. 3 during the random redraw to line up on the inside of the second row for the 30-lap main event.

"We got the lead off the bat," he said. "I was rolling really good. At one point we had a straightway lead before we had a yellow. (Aaron) Reutzel made a run on me and got by me. I held him off in turns one and two, but on the restart I was tight for two or three laps. He made that one run on the outside of me in turns three and four and it was enough to get in front of me."

Herrera led the first eight laps before he was relegated to second.

"I got to him, but couldn't pass him back," he said. "The way the race track was once you got rolling it was around the bottom and tough to pass."

Herrera's runner-up result gives him three straight podiums and six top-five finishes in seven ASCS National Tour races this season.

Sides Facing Four World of Outlaws Races in the East This Week

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 16, 2016) - Jason Sides has a busy week on tap with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Sides heads east to face the vaunted Pennsylvania Posse starting on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash. Sides hasn't made the feature during the event in the past three years.

"Qualifying is probably as important during that race than any," he said. "We haven't qualified well there and when you get behind the eight ball with so many talented drivers it's very hard to overcome that. We need a good draw and a great qualifying lap to set ourselves up."

Sides will then head to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup, which is contested on Friday and Saturday. He finished 14 th twice at the half-mile oval last year and is looking for his first podium finish at Williams Grove Speedway since placing second in 2012.

"Williams Grove is a technical track where qualifying is also important," he said. "It can be tough to pass people in dirty air so it's important to set yourself up toward the front of the field."

This weekend wraps up on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., for the Empire State Challenge, an event in which Sides maneuvered from 24 th to 15th last year during his debut at the track.

"We learned a couple of things last year that will hopefully help us leading into this weekend's race," he said.

Sides is coming off a weekend in Indiana where qualifying got him behind the eight ball from the start of each night.

Sides timed in 20th quickest on Friday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth before he finished sixth in a heat race. He then advanced from 17 th to a 13th-place result in the main event.

On Saturday, Sides qualified 24th quickest, placed sixth in a heat race and ended 19th in the main event at Tri-State Speedway.

"Qualifying was our struggle last weekend," he said. "It's not like NASCAR where you get two hours of practice. You have to get your car near perfect after a couple of warm-up laps so some nights you just don't hit it right away. We had to come from the back in the heat race and the feature each night. It's really tough to get good results when you start so far back because everyone is so even."

QUICK RESULTS -

May 13 - Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind. - Qualifying: 20; Heat race: 6 (7); Feature: 13 (17).

May 14 - Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. - Qualifying: 24; Heat race: 6 (8); Feature: 19 (18).
