Shane Clanton Opens WoOLMS Title Defense with Win; Volusia Next

Zebulon, Georgia (02/15/16) –Shane Clanton lifted the lid on the 2016 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series (WoOCLMS) with a victory in his Weldbank Energy #25 Capital/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model at Screven Motor Speedway.

Shane traveled to Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Georgia) on Friday night for the two-day, Winter Freeze VI. Drawing 46 Super Late Models, Shane earned a front row starting spot for his heat after timing in 2nd quick in his group. Cruising to a 10-lap heat race win, Clanton earned the 6th-starting spot for the main event. Working his way to the front by lap 13, Shane Clanton made his move with a daring, three-wide pass over Jason Covert and Josh Richards to take the lead with 27 laps remaining. With $8,000 on the line, Shane held on for his first victory of the 2016 season with Josh Richards, Brian Shirley, Brandon Overton, and Jason Covert rounding out the top five.

On Saturday evening the ante increased to $10,000-to-win. Preliminary results left Clanton starting 15th on the grid for the 50 lap finale. Bad luck struck early in the event, when the Georgia racer was collected in a melee. He was able to rejoin the tail of the field, but was only able to muster a 15th place finish.

“The weekend couldn’t have started any better on Friday night with the win, but Saturday was definitely a struggle,” noted Clanton. “It goes that way sometimes though, and now we’ll just look ahead to Volusia. Hopefully we can dominate that deal again this year like we did last year.”

Attention now shifts to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida), where Shane will enter six events, which will be held as a part of the 45 Annual DIRTcar Nationals. Spanning February 15-20, the week starts with a pair of $7,000-to-win, UMP DIRTcar Late Model events on Monday and Tuesday before the winner’s purse is increased to $10,000 on Wednesday. Mason Zeigler Bags Career Win in LOLMDS Action at East Bay

Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania (02/15/16) – Mason Zeigler outdueled Scott Bloomquist on Saturday evening at East Bay Raceway Park to score the biggest victory of his career in his GottaRace.com #25z Longhorn/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model.

After battling a mixed bag of results during the 40th Annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Florida), Mason Zeigler set his sights on ending the week of racing with a strong performance in the finale. He would definitely far exceed his goal.

Mason began his night by registering the 2nd fastest qualifying time in his group, which positioned him on the pole of his heat race. Cruising to the 10-lap heat race win, Zeigler earned a 2nd row starting spot for the main event. Paying $12,000 to the winner, Mason made the pass for the lead over Scott Bloomquist on lap 23 of the 60-lap affair. He would maintain the lead for the next several laps before holding off a late-race charge by Bloomquist to score his first feature win of the 2016 season. Bloomquist, Dennis Erb Jr., Gregg Satterlee, and Darrell Lanigan trailed him across the finish line. The victory marked the richest of his career.

“This is just amazing to come out here and win this race in front of this big crowd and the MAVTV cameras,” said an elated Zeigler in victory lane. “We battled so many issues this week, but there was no quit in this team. I just can’t quit smiling right now. This is an incredible feeling.”

Mason will now find himself competing on the other side of the Sunshine State as he prepares for a week of racing at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida). Rodney Sanders Slides into Shady Oaks Victory Lane with USMTS

Happy, Texas (02/15/16) – Rodney Sanders parked his Swan Energy #20 MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified in victory lane for the first time in 2016 with a $2,000 triumph on Thursday evening at Shady Oaks Speedway.

Making the trip to Shady Oaks Speedway (Goliad, Texas), Rodney Sanders was one of 30 Open Wheel Modifieds registered for competition on Thursday night for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) opener. After rolling off the grid from the 5th position in his heat race, Sanders scored a runner-up finish behind Cade Dillard. Via his performance in preliminary action Rodney earned the 8th starting position for the $2,000-to-win, A-Main. At the drop of the green flag he began working his way forward, and by lap 22 had taken over control of the lead. Holding off a late-race charge from Jason Hughes, Rodney captured his first victory of the 2016 season with Hughes, Cade Dillard, Joe Duvall, and Ben Kates rounding out the top five.

Unfortunately, luck would not be on Rodney’s side on Friday or Saturday night as mechanical issues eliminated the Texas driver from both finales.

“It was great to get the first win out of the way on Thursday night,” Sanders said. “Those guys really made me work hard for it, and it was a fun race. Bad luck bit us the next two nights, but we’ll just keep pushing forward.”

Jason Hughes Pockets $4,000 Payday in USMTS Action
Westville, Oklahoma (02/15/16) – Jason Hughes notched his first triumph of 2016 behind the wheel of his West Siloam Pawn #12 Hughes/Mullins Racing Engine Modified with a $4,000 victory on Saturday evening at Shady Oaks Speedway.
Making his 2016 debut, Jason Hughes traveled to Shady Oaks Speedway (Goliad, Texas) on Thursday night for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) opener. Drawing 30 entries, Hughes earned a sixth-row starting spot for the feature after placing 3rd in his heat. Paying $2,000 to the winner, Jason worked his way into the runner-up spot with just two laps remaining. He pressured race leader, Rodney Sanders for the lead before ultimately settling into a 2nd place finish. Cade Dillard, Joe Duvall, and Ben Kates rounded out the top five finishers.

On Friday evening for the second night of USMTS action, Jason Hughes fell short of a transfer position in his heat with a 5th place outing. With the top five finishers transferring from the B-Main to the finale, Hughes cruised to the 10-lap consolation win. Starting on the seventh row for the $3,000-to-win A-Main, Jason advanced seven spots in the 35-lapper, notching a 6th place finish.

Returning for the final night of the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental at Shady Oaks Speedway (Goliad, Texas), Jason Hughes improved three spots in his heat scoring a 3rd place finish. Earning a fourth-row, starting spot for the 40-lap A-Main, Hughes made his way to the front by the eleventh lap after the first and second place cars tangled. After inheriting the lead Hughes cruised to the win over the remainder of the event. Pocketing a $4,000 payday for his efforts, Jason Hughes was trailed across the finish line by Ryan Gustin, Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek and Jesse Sobbing.

“Overall it was a good weekend for us,” noted Hughes. “Saturday night was kind of a wild feature. That was a tough situation with those guys getting eliminated, while battling for the lead in the main event. I’ve definitely been on the bad end of that scenario before, so we’ll take that win and head on to the next race.”
