CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE SUPER LATE MODEL SERIES TO SANCTION BUDDY ROGERS MEMORIAL AT THE TAZ

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series officials announced at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show that America’s first “Factory Backed and Factory Built” super late model series will sanction the 6th Annual Buddy Rogers Memorial 44 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN on Sunday, August 31.

The 6th Annual Buddy Rogers Memorial for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series honors the memory of the East Tennessee Hall of Fame driver. The race distance of 44 laps and the winner’s share of $4,400 recognizes Rogers’ car number.

“We’re proud to be a part of this annual event at Tazewell Speedway that honors the memory of Buddy Rogers, one of the great dirt late model drivers from East Tennessee,” Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn said. “We’re delighted that the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will be returning to Tazewell Speedway, as our race there last year was one of the most competitive of the season.”

Last year’s Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series West Chevrolet 50 featured a packed house that saw an exciting three-wide battle for the lead among Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, Tim Busha of Boaz, AL and William Thomas of Phenix City, AL. Turner drove higher on the high-banks of Tazewell Speedway that most drivers dare to go, and won the race.

National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and Brad Hall of Knoxville, TN also had memorable charges from the back of the pack to record top five finishes. Busha finished second, Thomas took the third spot, Johnson finished fourth, and Hall rounded out the top five.

“The brand of racing the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series brings to Tazewell Speedway has been popular with the race fans,” Vaughn said. “They all bought a ticket for a seat, but they only needed the edge!”

Thomas went on to earn the first Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Championship. Busha was the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Championship Runner-Up, while Johnson finished third in the point standings and Turner was fourth in the points chase.

The dirt late models in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series are powered by the production-based all-aluminum LS3 Engine that comes in the Chevrolet Corvette, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Chevrolet SS that are sold at Chevrolet dealerships worldwide.
