SATURDAY NIGHT WILL BE A BUSY ONE AT TALLADEGA SHORT TRACK WITH DEGA 100

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – There will be a lot of business to be taken care of this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for America’s first “Factory Backed and Factory Built” dirt late model series the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series in the $6,000-to-win 3rd Annual Dega 100.

The battle for the $10,000 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Champion will be happening, as will the battle for the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year award.  Then there is the Hoosier Racing Tire “Road To Dega” $4,000 Bonus if one of 16 qualified drivers can win the Dega 100 and take home a $10,000 payday.

There is also “The Streak,” as there have been eight faces in eight races posing for the photographers at the end of the race in Victory Lane.  Over 30 entrants are expected to file through the Talladega Short Track pit gate to compete in the Dega 100, with a long line trying to become the ninth different Chevy Super Series winner this season, including several local favorites.

Race fans will also get a rare opportunity to see all three economical Chevrolet Performance Sealed Racing Engines in action, not just the Chevy Super Series, but there will also be a pair of the $1,500-to-win races for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models, and the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division.

The defending Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN leads the point standings coming into the 3rd Annual Dega 100 in quest of his second straight title, but not by much.  Tyler Crowder of Lamont, FL is just 14 points behind Johnson.

The 2013 Dega 100 Champion Tim Busha of Boaz, AL is third in the Chevy Super Series points chase, 30 points behind Crowder.  Two of the eight race winners this season are Johnson and Busha, who have bookended the season.  Johnson won the first round at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on March 21, and Busha won at the same track on August 15 in Round 8.

Adam Martin of Talladega, AL grew up at Talladega Short Track as the son of Late Model veteran Ross Martin of Talladega, AL.  For 2015, Adam Martin finds himself in the fourth spot of the Chevy Super Series National point standings and leading the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year points.  Papa Ross Martin is ninth in the points chase.

Chasing Adam Martin for the 2015 Cruise With The Champions Rookie of Year Award is Mario Gresham of Rome, GA, who is also fifth in the Chevy Super Series National point standings.  Martin leads Gresham by 20 points in the Rookie point standings.  Rookies Brandon Williams of Crossville, TN is seventh in the points, and Trevor Thompson of Dallas, GA is tenth.

Johnson, Crowder, Busha, and Adam Martin are four drivers that are eligible for the Hoosier Racing Tire Road To Dega Bonus Award.  Two other drivers in the Top 10 of the Chevy Super Series point standings, sixth-place Jake Knowles of Rome, GA and eighth-place 16-year-old Jadon Frame of Winchester, TN, are also Hoosier Racing Tire Road To Dega qualified drivers.

The Hoosier Racing Tire Road To Dega eligible drivers qualified for the bonus at one of four selected races based on their finish.  Other Hoosier Racing Tire Road To Dega qualified drivers expected include Cory Hedgecock of Lenoir City, TN, Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN, Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, Ryan King of Seymour, TN, and Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL.

While Busha, Adam and Ross Martin are regulars on the Chevy Super Series, they are also graduates of weekly super late model racing at Talladega Short Track, and would love to win the Dega 100 in front of their home town fans.  They will be reunited with their former TST weekend warriors like Terry Smith of Oxford, AL and Ryan King of Anniston, AL.

Smith is one of the eight different winners this season on the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Tour.  Smith won a spirited battle with Johnson at Talladega Short Track on July 13 to defend his home turf.

The Chevy Super Series cars are powered by the $7,295 all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT525 Racing Engine based on the production LS3 Engine that comes in the Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Camaro, and the Chevrolet SS at Chevrolet dealers worldwide.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Late Models will take to Talladega Short Track on Saturday night for a $1,500-to-win race.  The NeSmith Late Models are powered by the $5,795 Chevrolet Performance aluminum-head 604 and the $3,495 steel-head 602 Circle Track Engines.

The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division will also be in action on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track with a $1,500-to-win race.  The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stocks have the option to use the #3,495 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.

Race Fans are encouraged to come to Talladega Short Track early on Saturday night for the Chevy Fan Zone where Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series drivers will bring their race cars to the grandstand area from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. to meet and greet the fans.  The Chevy Super Series Fan Zone Central Souvenir Trailer will also be there, and the drivers will have autographed Hero Cards and Coloring Books for the kids.

Competitors and race fans alike will also see a reworked racing surface at Talladega Short Track this Saturday night, as racers Ted Lackey and “Dr. Dirt” Johnny Stokes teamed up to move some clay this week in an effort to create multiple racing grooves.  To work in the reworked surface, there will be an Open Practice Session this Friday night at Talladega Short Track.

On Friday, the pit gate opens at 5 p.m. and the on track activities will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  On Saturday, the pit gate opens at 4 p.m. with Chevy Super Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.  The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. with Hot Laps to follow.
