CHEVY SUPER SERIES READY FOR MISSISSIPPI MAYHEM AT THE MAG AND WHYNOT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Rounds two and three of the 2016 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series marks a return to the Magnolia State this weekend for two big annual events that puts the Chevy Super Series regulars up against the local favorites in a battle that has become known as Mississippi Mayhem

Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will open the competition on Friday night with a 30-lap $2,000-to-win main event on the Black Ice.  Then the traveling road show will travel south on U.S. Highway 45 to Meridian, MS where they will do battle at the Action Track of the South, Whynot Motorsports Park, for a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event.

The local favorites defended their home turf last year against the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series regulars in spectacular fashion.  Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS passed the defending Chevy Super Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN on the last turn of the last lap to take the win last year at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Johnson did go on to earn his second straight Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Championship last year, but he hasn’t forgotten the finish at The Mag last year, and the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee will be looking to get the one that got away.

Jason Cliburn of Star, MS took the win last year in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race at Whynot Motorsports Park.  Cliburn is expected to return to The House of Hook to defending his home turf once again.

Speaking of drivers defending their home turf, the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point leader is Corey Hedgecock of Loudon, TN, who won the season opener at his home track, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN.  Tyler Crowder of Lamont, FL finds himself in a familiar position, in second-place of the point standings.

Crowder has finished second in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings for two straight seasons.  While Crowder might be familiar with that spot, it is one he would like leave behind and move up one more notch on the points list.

Second-generation driver Jake Knowles of Rome, GA is third in the Chevy Super Series point standings and Tim Busha of Boaz, AL is fourth.  Johnson is fifth followed by Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, and his dad, Ross Martin of Talladega, AL in sixth and seventh respectively.  Oliver Gentry of Newnan, GA is eighth, Jadon Frame of Winchester, TN is ninth, and Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN rounds out the Top 10.

Five first-year drivers to the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series have thrown their helmets in the ring to compete for the 2016 Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Award.  Second-generation drive Austin Smith of Rome, GA leads the standings followed by Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN, Ryan King of Seymour, TN, Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, and Colby Kilgore of Dalton, GA.

Other Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series drivers expected include former National Champion William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Ryan King of Anniston, AL, Mario Gresham of Rome, GA, and Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, AL.
